I have a couple of the Bosch 35w motors, and am wondering how people Connect wheels to them the ones I have, have got a square hole about 5-6mm through the output shaft.
Any ideas how best to sort out the wheel connection. :uhoh:

i used a 4mm allen key (steel) which i think fits in nicely from memory might need slight adjustment but worked well :proud:
I think the hole for the gearbox is about 4mm square section.I was wondering if you just got key steelthat size and welded a bit on to a round shaft to fit the wheel?
you are looking for some 4mm keystock (sits in a keyway on a motor shaft). Alternatively just take your shaft, make it a bit longer and find a friend with a mill to mill a square section on the end.
actually you could do it with a file and a bit of patience
Craig i use some 4mm key way steel and a bolt the size of thge wheel hub .... then pre drill the centre of the bolt with a 5.5mm hole 10mm deep fit the key steel into the hole then weld it in ........

A bearing supports the wheel between the motor and wheel- idealy it should be supported both sides.
I originaly had titanium axles, i had to upgrade those to P20 tool steel as they sheered.
Hi did you boar out the centre of the output shaft or did you use the original 5mm square?
and How did you stop the wheel from coming off?
The shaft is turned and has a 4mm square milled on the end, directly next to the motor on the shaft a pulley slides over and is held in place with a grubscrew (there's a flat milled onto the shaft for this, the pulley powers my front wheels) then it passes through the armor and sits in a bearing. The wheel then slides over the end of the shaft and is held in place with a keyway.
I'd strongly suggest putting a bearing as close to the motor as possible and on the other end of the loading point (in this case a wheel)
It's shown quite well here;

Scroll down :)
I put 5mm I meant 4mm square. that about clears that one up many thanks

Just taken my bosch's apart to see why they failed at the uk champs;
Turns out the shaft is 8mm with a spline on the outside which is simply pushed into the nylon gear... and eventually this connection just wears out.
Im going to look into getting some brass gears machined.
If anyones interested in a set PM me.
Ill put the prices and details up in the for sale section when i know more.

not sure but i think dave / alan young had some made a while back so may still have some available ......
just a thought ......
Any more news on the brass gears? I need about 20 sets or more.
Nope, rang hpc and they told me to send them a sample of the nylon ones to copy, but then I put it back and forgot about it while I got on with other things.
If your after 20 sets it might be a better idea if you sort it out with them...order me a set while your at it lol
Dose anyone know the output shaft speed for these motors at 12v?
I've had a number of emails asking if I can source 'Brass Gears' for the 35w Bosch motors
Yes I can is the answer, would need to know how many I'm getting made, they tend to work out at about £13 each, but that depends on quantity.
If people want some, can they let me know ?
Thanks
Hey Ed - We would like a set if your doing some please.
I'll have a pair
I'll have two pairs :proud:
I'm still intrested in getting 20 sets, might help bring costs down.
I'll take 2 off please Ed
Ok so that's . . . .
Grant - 2
Alan - 2
Twanky - 4
Dave - 2
.... and 40 for Chris (20 sets of 2) ? Are you sure you want me to order you that many, once I get a quote I'll be expecting you to pay for them !
lol not 20 pairs just 20 total
I bought a box of 35w Bosch's cheap and pulled some from car seats, might as well mod them in one big batch for future use.
Changed my mind, I'll have eight (total not pairs :proud: )Quote:

Twanky - 8
Dave - 2
Chris - 20
Tom - 4
Any advance on that ? I'll get a cost sorted ASAP and let people know what it is, then once everyone has paid - I'll place the order.
If you want to buy the motors, this is how they appear on eBay

Paypal Ok Ed?
Yeah - once I've got the quote in, I'll just divide it up between people
Any progress on this Ed?
Apologies - have been rather lax in getting this done, crazy busy at work (if someone wants to understand what busy really means, I have a day coming up where i fly DUB - LHR - SFO - LAS having run a customer workshop in Dublin first !)
Anyway, excuses aside - I'll get the quotes this week !
Ed it dosent look like you have enough time to even get out of the airports between
flights, let alone have any time to meet people !
Right, called them Friday, they promised to have a price for us this week so as soon as I have it I'll post it here. Sorry for the delay - nightmare !
Nice work Ed- what supplier did you go with? HPC?
No, HPC are useless - you usually have to get them to make things 2 or 3 times before the bother to read a drawing in my experience ! Local sponsor, although they just came back with a quote of £39 + VAT each, which is clearly bonkers ! Have asked them to try again
that sounds like a lot but for such a small batch its probably not far off...
I cannot justify my quantity if the price increases that dramatically, would have to reduce my order if so, but still interested either way. Just to let you know I won't have internet access for two weeks so if I don't get back to you, that will be why.
Well they've moved down to £35.91 + VAT each, think that's the best they're going to do.
If people still want some let me know - seems a sh*t load more than I paid last time I had some sets made, although even with the gear and the cost of a motor that's still a pretty good package.
Am away overseas until end of the week, but if people are still interested get in touch.
is that £35 inc motors then?
