Got a new team name (tell me if name is taken). We are now starting our new antweight (well, technically a kilobot)
I have got a 250mm x 500mmx 2mm sheet of steel and also a 10x10mm hollow square rod. With that I'm hopefully building a spinner which looks like this:
Now save a version of that as a .doc so office 2000 users like me can open it :P

Make the wheel base wider otherwise you will find it won't be able to turn quickly

The wheel base is quite wide the boxes at the bottem left and right are the servos and on the outside are the wheels.

But what shuold I use for the armour, I could go and buy some aliminium from B&Q or use some of my 2mm lexan.If you recommened a material for the armour please tell mke.
I would still widen and shorten the chassis. There is a relatively large distance from one end of the chassis to the other end compared to the width of the wheelbase. So you effectively have to have a higher torque acting from the servos to turn the robot than you would if the wheelbase were wider.
I have to make it quite long because the battery I'm using is an old and big NI-MH what I got in galaxy for £4. I could always use my Lipo, but is only 300mah.

You seem to have 2 batteries there, how come ?
I reckon that the little one is a reciever battery and the big one is for the weapon and drive.
wouldn't it be easier and less weight just to have 1, 7.4v lipo power going to the esc and the esc providing power to the receiver and drive?
I don't know really but I'm going for the easy way with 2 batteries, the one for the reciever is small and very light but I have seen these LiPo's that are 7.4v and only weigh 30g.
You do not need 2 batteries for an antweight. If its servo driven, you plug a battery into the receiver and it will power both receiver and servos. If you go on roaming robots shop, they sell a good 6v ant sized battery.
your receiver may reguate the 6v voltage to 4.8v (mine does) and my esc required 5 volts +. if you plug battery in through the esc it should give receiver and servos power via the signal cable that you plug into receiver.
The big battery I have is 7.2v and that is just enough to power the esc. I'll try it out today and see what happens
