Re: batterys and pnumatics
Lead acid are good if you have more money NiMh are better you can also use LiPo's.You'll want a 14v and around 3000mah battery, technobots sell lead acid and car dealers sell them to.If you want NiMh the robo market place do design-a-pack or go to overlander batteries as they are good.

Re: batterys and pnumatics
thanks
and what is the best thing to weld aluminum tig, mig or what (weird names)
Theo
Re: batterys and pnumatics
hate to say it but if you don't know the difference between tig and mig then I wouldn't start trying to weld aluminium. Get a simple arc welder for around 50 quid and start on steel. Much easier to pick up the basics of welding.
Re: batterys and pnumatics
i know what mig is and tig (mig is gas)
and my dad is buying the welder :D
and i was just woundering what is the best type of welder to buy
theo
Re: batterys and pnumatics
Ironically enough with that comment you have shown that you don't know the difference. Both Tig and Mig processes use gas. Each differs with how the filler material is added to the weld.
With regards to the best welder Tig is the prefered method
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/aluminium-welding.htm
That page shows quite nicely the difference in quality of welds with both techniques. Problem with Tig is that the machines can be more expensive than mig.
Re: batterys and pnumatics
ok
where is a good place to get a mig welder :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

and where can u get a cheap mig welder
Theo
Re: batterys and pnumatics
I'd highly recommend staying away from lipo batteries until you are more familiar with bots. Nimh far more suitable.
Check out ebay for a welder

Ebay is a pain for finding things.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12v-NiMH-3300mAh- ... 3353c52b76
for a 14.4v motor

Re: batterys and pnumatics
yup, either one of those battery packs will happily power a featherweight rammer for a good 10 minutes at least, pop an electric weapon on and the time will drop but it won't be a problem to last a 3 minute fight :)
Re: batterys and pnumatics
hi thx
i will prob buy 2 (what 1 will depend on money  )
Theo
Re: batterys and pnumatics
back to welders, you can get gassless mig welders which means you dont need gas
Re: batterys and pnumatics
Poking about on the mig welding forum I was advised that gasless was a bit messy and that I should go for gas which ended up being a bit more then i really wanted to pay, although im not sure they got the message that it was likely to be attacked by all varieties of weapons so didnt really matter too much about neatness.
Im planning on going to night classes to learn to weld soon though so hopefully I will have more of an idea after Ive done that
Re: batterys and pnumatics
thx for the idea for a gasless one but there not as easy and messy as a gas mig welder and hopefully i will have 1 tomorrow :D ( my dad is buying it :proud: )
