Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
Oh wow, this is about a street away from where I used to live! I lived in Kiddie for 3 or 4 years (from the age 4 to going on 8 ), then I moved to Spain in '03.
Ah well, make sure you get some pics of the streets, not just the event! :)

Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster

Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
we've thought about maybe doing a couple of the games during the shows at this one (not as teams or anything, just instead of a fight) any preferences to games, or ideas for new ones?

its like football but 2 robots have 1 minute to gather as many balls in their goal on an elevated platform. Whoever gets

Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
King of the hill game type, a zone where you can score points if you are the only robot in that pit you score points every 10 or so seconds you are in there by yourself (Like the robot arena2 event)

Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
I probably would be, haven't done it in about eight years though XD so if nothing else I could be relied upon to make everyone else look good...
-
Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
I will be up for that, might have to try my slightly cack-handed approach again (I got 2 strikes by passing the ball down the alley with my foot and another throwing it left-handed)

Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
Hi All
Unfortunately, as Alan already knows Scorpion cant be at the event, we were planning on coming anyway but I'm still in too much pain to sit in a car for the 2 - 3 hour journey so unfortunately we wont be with you. However we have a room booked & paid for that cannot be refunded at the Travelodge Birmingham Dudley, so if anybody can use give me a call & we'll give you the details. It's free
My phone number is: 07917 102409

Just got back in from this - I had a great time all things considered (one blown servo for one and a half days' semi-continuous battling isn't bad at all) and many thanks to Alan, Mike, Dave, Dave, Dave, and everyone else for putting it on. Well done to Clive for winning the feathers and Rob and Gilbert for winning everything else :P
Hope Mike gets better soon if he's reading.

Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
Well thats for the year, were already about set for next year as well. Thanks to all that came, well done to the Iron Awe pair for coming 1st and 2nd in the competition and winning the tag team. Well done to Tiny Hurtz in the feathers, not bad for a first outing. Thanks to all the crew for the hard work, thanks to Adrian and Terry for helping with the arena, i would have been in bed for midnight if it wasn't for dad doing his usual trick of loosing his keys and phone, found the keys this morning but if anybody happens to find a PDA let me knoe :P . Best wishes to Mike, get well soon old man, and a big thanks to those that helped out, especially Tim for driving his van back.
We'll be at the NEC in March and will kick off next year back at Whitwick in February.

Re: 16th & 17th October 2010 - Robots Live - Kidderminster
Hi everybody, first off thanks for all your concern, good wishs, texts, e-mails and dark humour (you know who you are!).
For those that don't know I had about 20mm of my left ring finger cut off when Pressure's flipper dropped whilst loading it into the arena.
I was being assisted in the loading and, despite a warning not to, the flipper was pushed up in the effort to get the bot in.
This made the locking bar drop out and the rest is history.
The irony is I was watching and warning him to mind his fingers as he had his hand under the front of the machine at the time.
Weapon locks are often the subject of debate as some are ineffective and/or risky to remove, the committee are on it at the moment.
One of the main problems is that the variety of robots makes a standard difficult to establish.
Hopefully we can set a guidline with a testing system for weapon locks and make it part of the tech check.
Finally (almost) I would like to say a special thanks to Tim and Meryl for getting me and my van home, for Ian, Richie, John and jake (and anyone else that helped) for loading it.
To Clive and assistants for, in true, professional police standards, conducting a fingertip search of the incident site.
Mike.
PS The committee has decided that, to stay in line with descimination laws, the robot fight end countdown will be changed.
It will now be:
9and3/4, 8and3/4, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Cease.
