Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Hey guys
Since I've had my fair share of comedy moments during my short carear in robots (the magnet to name but one), I was just interested to hear some of yours, either from back in the pits of RW or maybe something that happened in the arena, or indeed to you personally.
To start off, a contribution of my own, what I call the polycarb incident:
I was at the RL space centre event and as I was going down the side of the arena (with tea in hand) I fell over some lighting trussing or cable (can't remember what), and fell into the polycarb, which, because it wasn't a full show and no flipping out, wasn't bolted to the kickplates, so it just hinged open like a cat flap! Fell down over them and hit my head on a beer barrel prop! Still managed not to spill my tea though :D
So come on fellas and ladies, give us a giggle :)

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
I'm glad only a couple of people saw me walk into the large television screen at Barnsley last year. Still got a bruise from that, think it's permanent! lol.

Ah yes, McDonalds.
Dave Weston got locked inside a McDonalds after going to the toilet and then it closing or something...I wasn't there, I've only heard the story so the details might be wrong.

What
Poor Dave...I guess he didn't starve to death, though. :D

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
I gotta wonder why you would be in a mcdonalds toilet long enough for the place to shut up. I'm usually in and out of those places very quickly!

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Well when you consider what you consume when in a McDonald's, is it any wonder that people take ages in the toilet?

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
After reading 08 the RL crew went to McD's. DW went the loo and a load of chavs pulled up and looked like they were gonna try and break into the vans so we all went out and the staff locked up behind us with dave still in the loo. Then there is the hotel incident Dave at Colchester was it? Tune in later for the full story.

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
One of the comedy moments I remember from series 7 - You only really got to meet the presenters, especially Craig Charles if you won your battles. I gave him quite a giggle - I only wanted to go to the toilet but walking from the pits I had to negotiate a set of double doors. I could see Craig coming the other way the other side of the door, as I walked up to the door I just pushed - I should have pulled - the door didn't move & I didn't stop til I ended up on the floor. Craig opened the door the right way & was giggling all the way past

- winning the middleweight championship for the second time with my left leg completely waxed below the knee
- falling asleep on a lilo in the ATC squadron just outside the RAF base and waking up in the morning with said lilo having slowly deflated during the night meaning that I wasn't able to walk without looking like John Wayne for a good hour or so
- Watching a fellow cadet shaving for the first time and covering his entire face (forehead and all) in shaving cream
- any and all drunken moments at robochallenge events
- Nightclubbing in Newcastle after I promised myself an easy night
- Driving my car whilst pished around the field at the last one
- John Reid trying to wake me up the next morning with a wheelspin unaware that I was actually sleeping in my car in the middle of the field
- Ring of fire

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Building Monolith with Marco. Maybe you had to be there but it was just a minefield of innuendo and complaining. It nearly resulted in the robot being called S.A.W.B., but I can't explain why on this forum, lol.

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Craig wasn't there an incident involving Storm?
-
Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
No, there was a funny involving Storm.
The people that knew about it and didn't mention it to Ed when he freaked, THEY are the ones who made it an incident.

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
we had been drinking when we were told the hanger had been left unlocked so we all went to check all our stuff was ok, it was and on our way out, i said something like ''lets nick storm 2''
bit pissed we moved it from the bench to the corner of the hanger everyone was laughing as we did it
it got covered in a sheet or a banner or something with its arm up
came back in the morning to see Ed searching for storm 2 saying ''we've looked everywhere'' obviously not under the storm 2 shaped sheet
so I whipped it of to reveal to a very pissed off Ed
I was feeling very hungover and a very angry person told me I'd caused alot of trouble and that i would be kicked out of the FRA, which was followed by ''you best go home mate''
what was annoying was the people that were there helping Ed look for storm 2 were laughing as we moved the night before

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
I know Craig, I was the other guy helping you carry it.

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Comedy moment the next day for me was when I put storm2 up against the arena wall with my wooden robot...

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Funny moments for me had to be
Doncaster 2007 : I was filming a battle just minding my own buisness when a pyro went off unexpectedly from the side of the arena causing me to jump and fly backwards followed by Sarah Bell laughing and pointing a finger at me.
UK Champs 2008 : When Dantomkia threw Tanto Jr OOTA towards Geoff where he screamed and I was also filming him (from behind ;).
I also remember Mark Lumb telling me about when he was trying to get into a car park when arriving at Newcastle for the FW UK Championships 2009 where the team buggered the ticket machine. Thats all I remember but the full story would be funny I bet!

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Same language but a huge gulf in meaning......
Tony Booth introducing himself to David Calkins (Commissioner of the RFL) after which David leant over and whispered in my ear saying that he had absolutely no idea what Tony had just said.
Again David Calkins... and the Big Nipper guys - and the negotiation of a bribe to the judges . David then told Graeme that I was easy and cheap :uhoh:
Matt Maxham's posting on the FRA forum about tossers (pneumatic powered flippers) - then his total embarrassment when it was pointed out to him JUST what it meant this side of the pond
-
Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
RIAT about 3 years ago - turns up in a queue with Big Nipper boys in front, then me and then (if I remember rightly) John with Beast or could have been Paul with M2. Armed soldier opens back of Big Nipper car - takes one look and turns chalk white. Looks at me - I do this :proud: at him and nods then points to the car behind me - that turned out to be the quickest time roboteers have ever got into that place

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Hi All,
One particular humerous moment that I can recall when we were at the Enginuity event. Near our digs was a small pub as I recall that half of the robot fraternity descended on this pub around 8.30 just after they had closed the kitchen and when they realised how many people there were that were hungry, they decided to open the kitchen and were serving after 11 o'clock and we drunk the pub dry of lager that evening thanks to the mute lads.
Does Swanny remember the soggy lift?

Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Mark Lumb, a waitress who was the spitting image of Jo Brand...... and a banana split
-
Re: Comedy moments in RW/live event history
Theres always been a lot of innuendo involved with roboteers, and a lot of camp comment made, for example, the time myself and Marco decided to share a big dessert between us due to the cost (one that Graeme dawson had eaten by himself!), and the gay comments were coming from all directions, mainly Alan and Dave Young :)
