Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
Will antweight roboteers need to be FRA members (we are, but some others aren't)?

Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
Hiya,
No, if they are coming just for the Ant Weights for this one event, then I dont think they need to be members of the FRA.... in the past I think it has been waivered for this event only.
If i'm wrong the FRA can say so.

Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
In that case, I am likely to turn up as a spectator but if I can get an ant built and running in time then I'll bring it.
No promises though.

wat
Was very good to meet you, got to drive the Ratz in the big arena, coming second in the whole event, right until the annihilator when I drove into the pit (thanks to my driving), and I got to drive SMIDSY!!!!! I lost, because I was against Scorpion, but it was a good fight, but I think Andy's annoyed about the dents... Also got the Rat an upgrade as well, new metal caster!!! Met some new people, including Matt, Jack and Alan! I sooooo want a heavy now!
-
Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
Had a great time at my first event even though I lost most of my fights.
Met a lot of great people with special thanks to Simon Windisch for lending me a battery when mine ran out.
-
Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
I may have caught a glimpse of you...
too busy fixing Smidsy, which I can now classify as my own.
that's be the day.... lol cheers andy :)
-
Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
I think you'll find Andy isn't bothered about the dents, mainly because there aren't any. The scratches to the paint now that's a different matter. SMIDSY makes a fantastic noise when it's hit with an axe (and even better when it only has four bolts in the top so it rattles) and I did find the 10 - whack, 9 - whack, 8 - whack....................countdown quite funny.
It was a good event for us, hydras flipper worked well and the axe buried itself in the floor good and proper. Just needs a bit more work to get it to come back up.
DTK's new motor worked just fine. Got a good test when one half of the Roboteq blew and set it running full pelt.
And WE WON THE BATTLERATZ!!! Dead chuffed with the upgrades and now don't need to charge them after every fight so all good.
Anyway, a great big thankyou to Alan, Dave and Mr Hunter (who's name I can't remember) for helping Paul lug the heavies around all day, hopefully the back will be ok for the next event.
Andy
PS: I haven't missed that bit about classifying SMIDSY as your own!!

And WE WON THE BATTLERATZ!!! Me no likey :(
PS: I haven't missed that bit about classifying SMIDSY as your own!! I did some work on it, and I got to drive it... I think I just need more practice, and fix the scoop as well...

Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
Many thanks to RR team for a fun day St Hammer went well no problems at all, I was happy that it could fight Stinger, as it has been one of my favourite machines from the Robot Wars days.
Seraphim won a couple of fights as well even when it had stopped The Wotty needs some modification Ian is going to fix it next time our paths cross at one of the shows, I am looking forward to the next event.
Many thanks again :D :D :D

I would not have worried if Stinger had won either but jonno had some technical problems :uhoh:

Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
Hi Guys,
A huge thank you to all that attended !!, Also a big thank you from Diana, the Town Centre Manager.
The event was one to remember with a few €œ technical €œ issues, but easily overcome with a bit of inspiration.
A successful day of robot battles, I only realised on the way home that we didn€™t have a break like we normally do€¦. Mainly due to the fact we had such a good attendance of robots and people wanting to play in the arena.
The Battle Ratz had a brilliant day, actually taking centre stage in the main arena for the first time. I hope you enjoyed taking the limelight for once boys !! Well done to Luke for taking the trophy€¦ don€™t forget to bring it to Guildford so they can try and get it back !!
There was a lot of interest in the Battle Ratz kits€¦ and the Pay to drive was as popular as ever as we had it on offer for free !!
Diana has already booked us to return in 2011, that will be our 8th visit to Aylesbury .. WOW.
Thanks to Craig for letting me drive St Hammer twice€¦.. Brilliant FUN !!! Will get Stinger working as good€¦ that€™s a promise !! Wasn€™t so good on 12v€¦. back up to 24v for Norwich !!
John
Roaming Robots
An Email I recieved Yesterday.
Hi Roaming Robots
Just wanted to thank you for organising this event, which me and my family along with everyone else really enjoyed!
Having watched the series on TV, I was suprised at just how big the heavyweight robots are, and you can't help but come away thinking of building one yourself! especially after my son really enjoyed operating the Rat bots?
Well, I also wanted to let you know that I took some pictures and video of the event which I've created a small Robot Wars page for, this has been added to my website, http://www.DavesVideoArcade.co.uk/robotwars.html
Please Feel free to link to my robot wars page for your visitors and fans to view.
Once again, thanks for such a great event, I look forward to next year!
Regards
Dave

Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
I really enjoyed this event, even if I didn't get to use cabrakan, but TBH I was glad to just play with the ants and watch the fights for a change.
I might have to get 3 pizzas next time :P
Dunno if anyone noticed a comment on one of the photo's Jonno linked to, the writer seems to think the Ratz are a little overpriced. They're still cool for their money though

Probably do seem that way but having worked out wether or not I'd build another of our own on the same principles I decided that I'd let Jonno waste his time and work for peanuts. Material cost is most of what it is.

Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
I noticed it... We are looking into buying our own milling machine to bring the price down , but anyone who's seen inside them can see there's a lot of components onside and a lot of drilling and custom made parts.
Did notice it.
-
Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
i got to about £150 of standard components (before you get to the custom parts) before i gave up and decided maybe they were quite good value. I do think the reliability is impressive and they're so much easier to run than the feathers. I know a lot of the guys with the ratz really enjoyed being in the big arena although the floor was a bit rough for them (some bugger chopping holes out of it apparently :proud: :proud: ). Think most of the guys need to learn that driving really close to the pit normally results in one thing. Only you and Luke weren't in there at the end
Andy
-
Re: 9th May 2010 - Aylesbury Town Centre - Roaming Robots
To be honest, if I was a member of the viewing public and had little understanding of the cost of components, I would also think that £325 was a bit overpriced, but knowing what is included in the kit, the amount of work and development that has gone into them, the reliability of them and their ability to keep you occupied easily for ages, the price of them is pretty good.
Bottom line is that this spobby isn't that cheap to get into so you have to be prepared to invest a bit, but it's also not too shabby compared to the cost of getting into some other recreational occupations.
Viva la robots :)
