Re: crazy steam train vapour
Perfectly do-able.
Just make the robot look like a stram train :proud:
Re: crazy steam train vapour
i think it might be a clusterbot due to the tender :P
Re: crazy steam train vapour
Something with a cow catcher might be good as it can be turned into a lifter/ flipper whilst still looking like a train.
Also, this thing looks like it will be very long and not particularly wide so it will probably not turn as well as something shorter/wider than it and could be very easy to turn over sideways.
Re: crazy steam train vapour
im thinking for the turning that the wheels will twist
and the cow catcher idea will be a good idea :P
Re: crazy steam train vapour
I'd be more inclined to opt for a 0-6-0 arrangement with cowcatcher as it's shorter so can steer more effectively and gives you a managable number of wheels.
Re: crazy steam train vapour
thats the kind of arrangement im going for now
are you a steam enthusiast? just curious as i didnt think anyone on this forum would be intrested in trains :o
Re: crazy steam train vapour
Yep, I'm a fellow rail enthusiast
Re: crazy steam train vapour
yay
on a serious note the smoke deflectors will be pneumatically powerd as self righters :P
Re: crazy steam train vapour
I'm not an extremely knowledgable rail enthusiast but I do love trains. Something about them is just really appealing. I don't know if it's the way they look, the way they snake about the tracks or whatever but they're awesome. Makes me want to get my model railway set back up and running. :)
Re: crazy steam train vapour
show us a vid of it jamie when you set it back up
is still trying to figure out how to not go over the weight limit but the wheel arrangement has changed from
4-6-2 to 0-6-0
Re: crazy steam train vapour
If you need to lose weight in the machine try only making the top bit a facade and have the drive and weapons base armoured, still looks like a train but it will be less easy to kill.
* Wonders whether CO2 piston exhaust will look like steam *
Re: crazy steam train vapour
i think im gonna need all the help i can get but jordan that sounds like a good idea
also dimension problems
by the way jordan if you want this can be a shared bot between you and me
Re: crazy steam train vapour
How about instead of using an 0-6-0 arrangement, how about you use a 2-2-2 arrangement? That way, you would save weight, seeing as you wouldn't need to use a mock-Stephenson-Link mechanism on the wheels.
Yes, I know what that is, so give me my sadness badge!!!
Re: crazy steam train vapour
Thing is with a 2-2-2 though, would the look of the steam train not be lost a bit? With a 0-6-0 it's got the distinctive look of a steam train but I've not seen many (if any) 2-2-2 setups so I don't know if people would associate that with trains. Just my thoughts. Either way, it should hopefully look like a cool robot
Re: crazy steam train vapour
My mistake Mark - I've just Googled it and there are plenty of 2-2-2 locomotives that are very clearly steam trains.
Re: crazy steam train vapour
0-6-0 means no leading wheels, 6 drive wheels and no trailing wheels hence 6wd.
Only the middle pair of wheels are driven in a 2-2-2 arrangement meaning weight wasted on unpowered wheels.
The coupling rod could be used to provide 6 wheel drive being both functional and good looking.
Re: crazy steam train vapour
The idea for that would be that all 6 wheels are powered, however it only looks like the 2 middle wheels are powered...
