Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Hello and welcome to Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation!
This is a spin-off of the most destructive, carnage-filled robot fighting show on the planet.
36 robots from 9 people are needed are needed to enter this event.
Entry Requirements
ï˜ Each entrant must enter 4 heavyweight robots. These can be vapours or realies. You must also supply your current location and a team name.
ï˜ If 36 robots are not entered by the 1st January 2009 then the remaining spots will be filled with random realies. The tournament may start before that date if entries are received early.
ï˜ Each robot can weigh a minimum of 80.1kg and a maximum of 100kg
ï˜ Robots with tracks/shuffle pads are allowed a 10% weight bonus.
ï˜ Walking robots are allowed a 50% weight bonus. The definition of a walker is that there must be legs that have two or more stages of movement. Rotary camshafts cannot make up any part of the walking mechanism.
ï˜ Cluster-bots are allowed, but once 50% of the total weight is eliminated the whole entry is out.
ï˜ No un-tethered projectile weaponry is allowed.
ï˜ No electrical damage (e.g. Bar Heaters) or flamethrowers are allowed.
ï˜ No flying robots are allowed.
ï˜ Stats are to be supplied in any format, but you will be notified if I judge the stats to be very unrealistic or extremely overweight. Depending on how overweight they are I may be lenient with robots.
The Annihilation Stadium V2 will be used in this tournament. For details see Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0.
Tournament Structure
ï˜ This tournament will feature 6 machines in 6 annihilators, with one robot eliminated each round until one robot is left.
ï˜ The 6 winners of the annihilators will fight in the final annihilator, the winner of which wins the tournament.
Battle Rules
ï˜ You can eliminate your opponent in a variety of ways: You can immobilise 50/100% of their drive (KO), flip or push them into a place from where they cannot move (e.g. the pit, TKO), flip them out of the arena (OOTA) or beat them on a judge€™s decision if more than one robot is mobile after a 3 minute round (JD).
ï˜ The judges have the criteria Damage, Aggression, Control and Dominance to judge on. Each is marked out of 5 and multiplied in order of importance. Damage is x 1, Aggression is x 0.75, Control is x 0.5 and Dominance is x 0.25. The robot with the highest score advances/wins.
Get entering!!

In! :proud:
TEAM BRAVEHEART:
1. Spin Dash Unleashed
2. Traffic Warden
3. Mornington Crescent
4. Venus Fly Trap II
1. Spin Dash Unleashed
SHAPE- skirted box, with rounded sides and back.
COLOUR- dark blue bodywork, with red-and-white striped skirting.
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 100cm X 75cm X 20cm
SPEED- 16mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm all round, 10mm at sides and rear without skirts.
ARMOUR- 4mm Hardox
MOVEMENT- inner, 6WD
POWER- 2 x LEM-130s. These run at 36v and produce approximately 18hp.
WEAPONS- A horizontal Pussycat-style saw blade on the front. The blade is mounted on the underbelly ala Code:BLACK and is designed to chew up skirts and wheels. It is powered by an S28-150 Magmotor and runs at 3000rpm. Its 18hp and shape also makes it an excellent battering ram.
SRIMECH- invertible. The rounded sides and rear also prevent it getting beached.
NOTES- flies Scotland flag.
STRENGTHS- excellent traction, fast, tough armour, low weaponry, invertible
WEAKNESSES- untested, so-so manoueverability, saw blade less effective upside-down
PIC- http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5359 ... sh6ta1.png
2. Traffic Warden
SHAPE- square bracket with rounded rear
COLOUR- black with a yellow stripe
WEIGHT- 100kg, I hope
DIMENSIONS- 95cm X 150cm X 25cm
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 10mm
ARMOUR- 4mm Grade 5 titanium
MOVEMENT- four inner wheels
POWER- 2 x Etek-RT motors, running at 48v and producing 38hp.
WEAPONS- A pair of horizontal hydraulic clamps within the middle of the machine. Each clamp is powered by an 80mm x 40mm ram operating at 3000psi, delivering up to 10 tonnes of crushing power. When an opponent slips into the middle, the clamps activate and hold them in place. Traffic Warden can then drag them around and shove them into the nearest arena hazard. Think of it as Huggy Bear on steroids.
SRIMECH- invertible, rounded rear should prevent it getting beached
NOTES- flies Scotland flag, super special awesome thanks to Daniel Stickler, Martijn and AJ for helping with the design
STRENGTHS- good traction, tough shell, fairly manoueverable, nippy, powerful grip
WEAKNESSES- untested weapon, exposed ground clearance
PIC- http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/1130 ... nalto6.png
3. Mornington Crescent
SHAPE- flat cylinder
COLOUR- white, with the London Underground sign for Mornington Crescent on the top and bottom
WEIGHT- approx 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 100cm X 20cm
SPEED- 12mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 8mm
ARMOUR- 3.5mm Hardox
MOVEMENT- 4 x inner wheels
POWER- 2 x S28-400 Magmotors, running at 24v
WEAPONS- Mornington Crescent is armed with not one, but TWO outer spinning rings, one on top of the other. The top ring spins anticlockwise, while the bottom ring spins clockwise. Each ring has four teeth and weighs about 10kg. The rings are powered by an LEM-130 running at 36v each and can reach speeds of 1500rpm. The two rings spinning in alternate directions should also help the robot be easier to drive - theoretically, anyway.
SRIMECH- invertible
NOTES- flies Scotland flag, thanks to Joey and Andy for helping with stats
STRENGTHS- two spinners for the price of one, nippy, manoueverable, tough, more controlled than regular ring spinners
WEAKNESSES- wheels open to axes and crushers, unpredictable bouncing?
PIC- http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/5661/m ... escent.bmp
4. Venus Fly Trap II (formerly Venus Fly Trap)
SHAPE- box with wedges on all sides
COLOUR- green with ugly great mouth on top
WEIGHT- about 100kg, I hope.
DIMENSIONS- 95cm X 95cm X 20cm
SPEED- 12mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 10mm, though the wedges and spatulas should provide some extra protection
ARMOUR- 3.75mm Hardox
MOVEMENT- 4 x inner wheels
POWER- 2 x C40-500 MagMotors. These will run at 36v and produce approximately 12hp.
WEAPONS- On either side of Venus Fly Trap II is what appear a rear-hinged flipper with a large spatula, covered in barbs. These are the 'jaws' and are powered by an 80mm x 120mm pneumatic ram each, running at 250psi. The idea is that an opponent is scooped up on top of the robot or gets stuck on one of the spatulas, the 'jaws' fire simultaneously and ensnare it like a real venus fly trap.
SRIMECH- A rear-hinged arm on top. Powered by a separate S28-400 MagMotor geared 250:1 for quick and easy self-righting.
NOTES- flies Scotland flag, thanks to Joey for aiding in the design
STRENGTHS- Unique weaponry, powerful, well-protected, nimble
WEAKNESSES- Completely untested
PIC- http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/7102 ... trapii.png
I was considering a mega-melee tournament myself at some point, Lewis. Can't wait to see how this one turns out. :D

From Etobicoke, Canada...
TEAM ZLAYERZ
1. Corona (previously The Zodiac)
2. Wedginator 9.0 (prev. Wedgin8or)
3. Jinx
4. Macduff the 5th (prev. Macduff the 4th)
----
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...c/Corona-1.png
Corona
Shape: Steeply sloped cylinder with flat edges.
Colour: Fiery! Name on the top.
Weight: 100kg
Drive: 3 S28-150 MagMotors run on 24 volts, geared 9:1.
Power: 4 NiCad Battlepacks run on 24 volts.
Motivation: 3 wheel omnidrive. It uses 3 omni-wheels similar to those of Root Canal to move itself across the arena. It can drive normally at first, then zig off in another direction instantly. This is especially useful in escaping charges from rammers/flippers.
Speed: 8mph
Armour: 24mm Ti/V alloy outer ring. The top is 5mm titanium and the underbelly is 6mm polycarb. The whole ring and powering engine and starter motor are shock mounted to avoid recoil from the most powerful of blows.
Ground Clearance: 10mm
Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 95 x 95 x 25
Weaponry: A 40kg spinning ring, powered by a Stihl MS880 chainsaw engine (in turn powered by an EV Warrior on 24 volts). It gets to a maximum RPM of 3000 and it can dish out about 260kJ per hit! However, it also has a gearbox to control the RPM value (from 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000) that it puts out so it doesn't hurt itself (even slightly) from its own shots. 1500 is the ideal RPM, and it puts out 65kJ every hit at 1500RPM. It should get to 1500RPM within 2 seconds. Theoretically, anyway. :P
Srimech: The top titanium panel opens up via a pneumatic ram powered by a 2kg CO2 tank.
Theme song = Battery by Metallica
----
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...ginator9-1.png
Wedginator 9.0
Shape: Low/medium-sloping wedge with steeply sloping sides and a rounded rear
Colour: Alligator texturing, cobalt cage, and reddish rear panel and lifting spikes. The face is dropped from 9.0 because it'd be hard to get on there. I'll save it for next generation.
Weight: 100kg
Drive: 2 LEM130 Lynch motors, volted at 36.3v and geared on a 4.5:1 reduction.
Power: 11 M1 A123 Li-Ion packs with polypropylene cell holders so the batteries don't get damaged during battles
Motivation: 4WD inner; the front two are standard wheels hubs are CNC aluminium and the urethane tires are foam-filled. The rear two are omni-wheels, similar to those of Root Canal; the purpose of these rear wheels is to help Wedginator move around the arena faster and turn without sacrificing speed or power.
Speed: 14mph, geared towards a high acceleration for quick sprints.
Armour: Rather complicated; the main body is a 4mm Hardox monocoque, but bolted to/around that is a sort of cage that runs from the front ends along the side ground clearances and where the front and sides meet to the rear where it forms that bar set-up seen on Wedgin8or. The cage is 5mm titanium/vanadium alloy, and behind the rear bars, also like Wedgin8or, is another panel made of 15mm HDPE to absorb blows.
Ground Clearance: 0mm front, 10mm everywhere else
Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 105 x 75 x 22
Weaponry: The first weapon is a pair of joint titanium lifting arms ending in spikes, which run all the way up the wedge. They're about 5cm wide and are powered by a linear actuator which is positioned right under it. They can lift about 500kg and can rotate from with the wedge to 105 degrees off the wedge, getting there in about 1 second, so it's a relatively fast weapon, as fast to pneumatics as you can get.
The second weapon is a pneumatic spike stationed halfway up the wedge and between the two arms. It's also made of titanium and has a hardened steel tip. Powered by a 2kg CO2 tank, it can exert approximately 900kg at the tip. It can pierce tires, underbellies, and can flip opponent onto their backs should they fall that far up the wedge, thus acting as a front-hinged flipper. Fires about 30 times.
Srimech: Either the arms or the spike, but the spike's faster. If I can get away with it, I'd prefer using the arms since I won't waste gas for the spike.
Theme song - Can't Wait For Violence by Nothingface

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...c/Jinx11-1.png
Jinx
Shape: See the render. Basically a very, very low scoop shape with an low angled rear and flat sides, and spiky bits on the scoop and rear wedge. The spikes on the front are actually part of the armour, while the rear spikes are hinged.
Colour: Yeah, same thing, see the render. Or else, think navy blues and pinks.
Weight: 100kg
Drive: 2 LEM130 Lynch motors run at 36.3v, gearing is 6:1 so acceleration is good, but shouldn't be too reckless either
Power: 11 M1 A123 Lithium-Ion battery packs
Motivation: 2WD inner; CNC hubs with urethane tires. Yes, we North Americans call 'em tires, deal with it. :P The wheels are set near the back of the bot so the front has more weight pushed upon it and can get under opposing robots much easier.
Speed: 14mph
Armour: 7mm Ti/V alloy, with an extra 8mm of Ti/V on the front, making 'er pretty much impenetrable from the front. Underside is 15mm polycarb.
Ground Clearance: Dead 0mm at the front, 0mm rising to 12.5mm at the sides, and 12.5mm at the rear.
Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 90 x 80 x 15, so she's quite compact.
Weaponry: A nice rack-and-pinion mechanized pneumatic axe/hammer powered by 2 custom 2.5kg CO2 tanks and a 250mm stroke 150mm bore double-acting ram. It can smack opponents with about a tonne of force and has about 15 full pressure shots. The shaft and axe head are both made out of Hardox so it doesn't break upon impact, and the axe head is shaped to inflict the most damage possible.
The other weapon explains why a double-acting ram powers the axe. It's a claw-wedge thingy on the axe shaft, protruding past the axe head. It's bolted on, but can rotate as if it was hinged. Thing is, when the axe lands, the momentum of the axes travel causes the wedge on the shaft to tilt back enough so it doesn't hit the floor before the actual axe head. When the axe head lands, the wedge will then hit the floor. Jinx can then use this wedge to flip opponents, as shown here.
Srimech: Axe

Macduff the 5th
Shape: Low box with a flat front, pointed sides (with removable skirts), and rounded rear.
Colour: Varying shades of blue, with silver-ish weapon attachments and skirt hinges, and the Scotland flag on top.
Weight: 100kg
Drive: 2 LEM130 Lynch motors run on 49.5 volts, geared 4.5:1 for better acceleration than previously.
Power: 5 packs each of 15 M1 A123 Lithium-Ion cells.
Motivation: 6WD; the wheel hubs are CNC aluminium and the tires are Storm 2-esque urethane rubber.
Speed: 15mph average; can get up to 30mph
Armour: A 7.5mm Ti/V alloy monocoque, with extra 5mm Ti/V on the angled sides and rear. Side skirts are 5mm Grade 5 titanium. Weapon armour will be explained in said section.
Chassis: 5mm steel ladder
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front with all set-ups except the drum, 15mm everywhere else.
Turning Circle: 0
Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 100 x 80 x 15
Weaponry: Macduff has interchangeable weaponry. Set-ups are below:
SET-UP 1 - A pair of titanium lifting forks, diamond-tipped, powered by a lightweight linear actuator and can hoist 300kg. This makes Macduff's max weight about 97kg. Used against robots that attack with wedges, and bots that have skirts and low ground clearances. The main set-up.
SET-UP 2 - A 5mm Hardox wedge, powered by the same system. Makes Macduff's weight the full 100kg. Used against invertible FBSs.
SET-UP 3 - A angled, convex ramming bar made of 15mm Ti/V, built to withstand tough hits. Held in place with steel mounts, bulkheads, shock-padding, etc. Used against powerful, seemingly one-hit KO spinners. Removes the linear actuator but makes the full weight 100kg anyway.
SET-UP 4 - A small rear-hinged flipper made of 5mm Hardox, and powered by a 1.5kg CO2 tank and a 75mm x 50mm ram. Can flip over about 250kg and can right Macduff if needed, and has about 20 flips. Has a 5mm titanium 50cm long extension. Makes Macduff's weight about 99kg. Used if needed to tip over opponents quickly.
SET-UP 5 - A hardened steel spinning drum, ala Tornado, powered by a LEM130 Lynch motor at 36 volts. This removes the extra armouring on the sides and rear to accommodate the drum. The drum has two tungsten teeth to flip opponents quickly. The drum is 30cm wide, extrudes 15cm from the front, and is used against opponents with flipping arms, forks, and other attachments.
Srimech: Invertible with all set-ups, but SET-UP 4 can right Macduff.
Theme song = The Wolf Is Loose by Mastodon

Hope that's all okay! :)

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Woah, filling quickly.
I'll enter Orka RV, Die-Reverta-Tops, Leprosy Infection and, for the fun of it, Spring-BOK!. I'll pull up the stats in a bit.
We are Team Dinowarrior, from Onehouse in Suffolk.
ORKA RV
Weight: 100 kilos
Body Shape: Basic Invertible box-wedge shape. 1m long, 0.8m wide, 0.3m at maximum height.
Speed: Some 15mph
TC: 0
GC: 8mm, 0mm at front.
Wheels; 6 inner
Armour; 7mm titanium
Power; 3x 12v batteries, powered by S28-400 Magmotors, at 24v.
Colour; Black with white patches
Weapons; A pneumatic CO2 powered flipping arm that spans most of the robots length. It can throw some 400 kilos and has about 50 flips. Although the arm itself is quite narrow (about half the robot width), the flipper plate expands the full width.
Srimech: It's a both-er. It can run inverted AND self-right using the arm.
Inspiration; I've always liked Orcas. Adding the K made it sound more dangerous.
Strengths; Weapon
Weaknessess: Hard to turn
DIE-REVERTA-TOPS
Weight; 100 kilos
Body Shape: A variation on the Wedge shape...it's sort of shaped like Spawn Again, but is more closely sized to Firestorm.
Speed; 15mph
TC; 0
GC; 0mm at front, 10mm at sides and back.
Wheels; 4 inner
Armour; 8mm titanium
Power; 3x 12v batteries, powered by S28-400 Magmotors, at 24v.
Colour; Green, with Killer Carrot style wrinkles, mouth and eyes. One of the eyes has a plaster over it, the other is a black eye. A few bandages are painted on this time.
Weapons: A large pneumatic rear-hindged CO2 flipper, capable of flipping a tonne or so. Mounted on the flipper, and powered by its own Bosch motor, is a roller. This is designed to thrust the robot out of the way of oppodents when flipped over, so it can self-right safely. This feature, I believe, is unique.
Srimech; It uses the flipper to self-right.
Inspiration; I've always liked Dinosaurs.
Strengths; Completely revamped, now much easier to control, turn and should flip harder.
Weaknessess: Still very much experimental.
LEPROSY INFECTION
Weight; 100 kilos
Body Shape; Invertible box, looks a bit like Tetanus Booster, only slightly larger. About 140cm in length, 90cm in width and 30cm in height.
Speed; 18mph
TC; 0
GC; 6mm. The mini-skirts hang down to about 1mm.
Wheels; 4 inner, top sticking out. Hinged mini-skirts hang from the side, and these protect the wheels from low lying discs.
Armour; 7mm titanium
Power; 3x 12v batteries, powered by S28-400 Magmotors. LEM130 motor for the drum.
Colour; A disgusting shade of lime green.
Weapons; A very large, very dangerous vertical drum, capable of reaching speeds of 4000rpm. The teeth on the drum are curved upwards so they can flip as well as damage and very sharp at the tip. There is a reason for this explained below. By the drum are two hindged wedge type devices, which drive oppodents onto the drum.
Srimech; The robot is invertable. Bars along the side and back prevent stranding. The wheel flaps, both on top and bottom, are set so the robot can still run inverted without getting stranded. Once upside down, the teeth of the drum gouge out robot parts.
Inspiration; Named after the disease which causes the skin to flake and fingers and toes to drop off...namely because the robot does something similar. The basic idea came from an episode of The Simpsons.
Strengths; Drum, control is pretty good
Weaknessess; Wheels may be vulnerable to axes
SPRING-BOK!
Weight: 100 kilos
Body Shape: Mute
Speed: 15mph
TC: 0.
GC: 0 at front, 7mm at sides.
Wheels: 2 inner.
Armour: 8mm titanium, covered in 2mm orange fur.
Power: 3x 12v batteries, powered by a couple of Magmotors (S28-400s).
Colour: Orange, thanks to the fur.
Weapons: A powerful, pneumatic CO2 powered front hindged flipper, very much like Mute, except it doesn't have the barbs on the top. The horns also make a smaller rear hindged lifter, identically powered. Should that fail, it does have a back-up plan (see notes).
Srimech: The flipper does that. And yes, it is prone to pulling off Mute's gymnastics.
Inspiration: It's named after an antelope.
Notes: Has an in-built police siren which it activates if the going gets tough. The idea is that the oppodent will think he's about to be arrested then run off.
Strengths: Experience, powerful weapon.
Weaknesses: Dodgy srimech, Flammable, back-up plan probably won't work.

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Yeah I'd be more inclined to say Kaizer looks like MacDuff the 5th :P
Although I hadn't seen MacDuff the 5th or any previous incarnation when I made Kaizer so it just happens to be co-incidence.
I do approve of the Saltire painted on the top though, naturally

1st-round predictions/tactics
Wedga Triton [#4] vs. Nidhogg Cubed vs. S.O.T.A.R. vs. Orka R.V. vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent
Ouch, definitely not the best melee for Wedginator 9.0. :( Mornington Crescent and SOTAR are real threats here with their invertibility on top of their spinnyness, Nidhogg's a bassa to attack and Wedga Trijton is more powerful, I'd say. I think Orka is the easiest to attack here, it doesn't provide too much of a threat, flip it over and push it down the pit. If that's too hard, go for Wedga and do the same. If THAT fails, god help me. :proud:
Gabriel V [#5] vs. Liar 2 vs. Minesweep3r vs. O.I.D vs. Gehenna vs. Bloody Frigid
I see Mark crashing out first, of course. :P
Sheer Heart Attack 2 [#6] vs. Jinx vs. Bandwagon 2 vs. CrOoKeD EvO vs. Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Leprosy Infection
Flipper attachment off: during an annihilator, I hate having that exposed. I also hate the number of drums in this, though they will do little to Jinx's scoop, they're dastardly otherwise, so avoid them even if they attack me. If Spin Dash is flipped, get him down the pit, he most likely won't be able to hit me. If not, destroy Bandwagon. :P
Corona [#7] vs. Lime-y vs. PsycloniZer vs. Die-Reverta Tops vs. ISRRNY vs. Iron Awe 5
Argh, flippers. And attacking Psy isn't going to do much so I'm going to destroy Mark with all my might. :P
Traffic Warden [#8] vs. Under Pressure vs. Magnitude vs. Cyrilium 5 vs. Gravity vs. Macduff the 5th
Get rid of Magnitude, Cyrillium, or Gravity, flippers and Mark don't bug me too much. Clampers do. :P
Back to Rock III [#16] vs. Venus Fly Trap II vs. Spring-BOK! vs. Still Hurting vs. Mobile Failure vs. Axeon 4.0
Spring-BOK! to spring out of the competition.
G'luck, me chums. :)

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Annihilator 1
Wedga Triton [#4] vs. Nidhogg Cubed vs. SOTAR vs. Orka RV vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent
I'm willing to say that Either Nidhogg Cubed, Orka RV, or Mornington Crescent will go out.
Annihilator 2
Gabriel V [#5] vs. Liar 2 vs. Minesweep3r vs. O.I.D vs. Gehenna vs. Bloody Frigid
Hmmm... So many tempting targets... Liar with exposed ground clearance, O.I.D which can't damage me that much, and Bloody Frigid, which can also do very little and has exposed ground clearance... Meh... I'll go after Tracy and use my scoops to get under that thing's sides and back. I'll try to ram it all around the arena, and I'll try to pit it as well. If she tries to grab me with her pincer, then big deal. She'll just make a big dent on my armour. Avoid G5briel :proud: , Liar 2, and Gehenna, and make sure that I do some damage if I get out. The only ways I can die are via pitting(Fat chance with my 60-something hp) or via OOTA, since O.I.D's disc isn't powerful enough to cause some serious shock damage.
Annihilator 3
Sheer Heart Attack 2 [#6] vs. Jinx vs. Bandwagon 2 vs. CrOoKeD EvO vs. Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Leprosy Infection
Get under either the sides or rear of CrOoKeD EvO, and flip him around the arena. Avoid SDU and SHA2, unless I can flip CrOoKeD into one of them. Focus only on Jack Orr's machine, and keep flipping it, eventually flipping it OOTA. If Kody tries to assault me, get under Jinx's sides or back to show her I'm one to be messed with. However, keep assaulting CrOoKeD, and hopefully OOTA it.
Annihilator 4
Corona [#7] vs. Lime-y vs. PsycloniZer vs. Die-Reverta Tops vs. ISRRNY vs. Iron Awe 5
Stay away from Corona at all costs, regardless of whether or not he tries to attack me. Also stay away from PsycloniZer, unless AJ wants to team with me. Anyways, pretty much try to get around to the back of Lime-y, and flip it around, maybe into one of the 2 deadly spinners. If either Iron Awe 5 or Die-Reverta-Tops comes after me, flip them once and run away. Once again, stay away from Corona and PsycloniZer unless AJ is willing to team up with me.
Annihilator 5
Traffic Warden [#8] vs. Under Pressure vs. Magnitude vs. Cyrilium 5 vs. Gravity vs. Macduff the 5th
I'm actually going to suggest we all go after Gravity. That polycarb won't survive my 700kgs of force in the axe, never mind Martijn's very powerful crusher. Lift it with the lifting arm and axe it to death, and shove it into Traffic Warden if need be. If Kody tries to attack me on purpose, then axe those skirts, and try to get under. Avoid Under Pressure, since even though I could easily dispose of it, I'd rather kill it later then now. Also try to assist Magnitude if it gets attacked.
Annihilator 6
Back to Rock III [#16] vs. Venus Fly Trap II vs. Spring-BOK! vs. Still Hurting vs. Mobile Failure vs. Axeon 4.0
I'm going with Kody on this one. Spring-BOK out.

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Annihilator 1
Wedga Triton [#4] vs. N³ vs. SOTAR vs. Orka RV vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent
Stay out of trouble and go for whoever's nearest or most convenient to attack, try to get under them with the forks, lift to break their traction, crush them and without letting go drop them down the pit. If any part of the maneuver fails, start again :P
Annihilator 2
Gabriel V [#5] vs. Liar 2 vs. Minesweep3r vs. O.I.D vs. Gehenna vs. Bloody Frigid
For now I'll join the general consensus of going for Minesweeper, attack it however I can and generally avoid getting into too much trouble with robots other than Minesweeper and/or the arena hazards, exercise common sense and get through the round safely.
Annihilator 5
Traffic Warden [#8] vs. Under Pressure vs. Magnitude vs. Cyrilium 5 vs. Gravity vs. Macduff the 5th
For now I'll join the general consensus of going for Min...Cyrillium, attack it however I can and generally avoid getting into too much trouble with robots other than Cyrillium and/or the arena hazards, exercise common sense and get through the round safely. Although if the opportunity should present itself to get Cyrillium out of the arena, do so immediately :P
Annihilator 6
Back to Rock III [#16] vs. Venus Fly Trap II vs. Spring-BOK! vs. Still Hurting vs. Mobile Failure vs. Axeon 4.0
Use the flipper and spikes to keep the opposition at bay until I can get the disc spun up, and then use all three weapons to play defensively and focus on getting through the round rather than going for anyone in particular, unless they threaten me or pose a very easy target. I'm open to teamups :proud:

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
ORKA'S TACTICS
Ouch. Well, I've got speed and some power, so go for the first robot that looks like it has an awkward ground clearance.
LEPROSY'S TACTICS
Leprosy is built for one tactic and one tactic alone...Hit'n'Run. Use that on any robot that looks suspect, or isn't pointing their weapon at me.
DIE-REVERTA-TOPS' TACTICS
Go after the realie. They never last. XD
SPRING-BOK!'S TACTICS
I'll offer a team-up, Joey. ^^

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Chris, just wondering, are you still doing Two Sides to Every War? I was worried that if I asked you on the thread people would have a go at me for bumping it, as you call it. If you're not, it doesn't matter. I was just wondering :)

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
1st-round predictions/tactics
Wedga Triton [#4] vs. Nidhogg Cubed vs. S.O.T.A.R. vs. Orka R.V. vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent
hmmmm...thats a tricky one :P i see two possible weak links, Wedginator 9.0 and orka R.V however due to kodys expriance, and it being his birthday a few days ago :P i see orka going out here
Gabriel V [#5] vs. Liar 2 vs. Minesweep3r vs. O.I.D vs. Gehenna vs. Bloody Frigid
ouch! hmmm....
i offer a team up between me, martijn, joey, AJ and tracy, to take out mineseweep3r, watch out though, cos mark wants my blood after that anihalator :P
Sheer Heart Attack 2 [#6] vs. Jinx vs. Bandwagon 2 vs. CrOoKeD EvO vs. Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Leprosy Infection
uh oh i see drums :P hmmm i say we justgo in and destroy bandwagon, with my 0mm ground clearance at the front i should get under the sides or rear of him, use my good speed to zaparound the side and then flip flip flip! i also offer a team up with anybody who cares :P
Corona [#7] vs. Lime-y vs. PsycloniZer vs. Die-Reverta Tops vs. ISRRNY vs. Iron Awe 5
hm i see lots of spinny thigs :P just go in and klll mark, then keep out of harms way :)
Traffic Warden [#8] vs. Under Pressure vs. Magnitude vs. Cyrilium 5 vs. Gravity vs. Macduff the 5th
flip with a capital z :) kick marks bot out :)
Back to Rock III [#16] vs. Venus Fly Trap II vs. Spring-BOK! vs. Still Hurting vs. Mobile Failure vs. Axeon 4.0
Spring BOK! to spring out of the competition.

I wouldn't count on it anymore. I no longer have any inspiration to write fights down...I can't even really write REAL robot battles anymore.
Sorry. :(

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
This is going to be very messy. :proud:
ANNIHILATOR 1
ROUND 1
MORNINGTON CRESCENT VS Nidhogg Cubed VS Orka R.V. VS S.O.T.O.R. VS Wedga Triton VS Wedginator 9.0
Ouch, tough draw to open procedings. Not much I can really do here, but avoid all the weapons at work and just batter whoever comes near with both rings at once. I should be quick and nimble enough to stay out of harm's way. If worst comes to worst and I have to attack someone, attack the sides of Orka or Wedginator or try to rip Wedga's skirts off. Ideally, if someone manages to stop S.O.T.O.R's spinning ring, I can fly in and slice it up a treat before it can spin up again, maybe even break the ring if I'm lucky.
Should be a doozy of a fight, Lewis. :D
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Hold it right there... Lewis? Can you do something about the 'Everyone team up on Mark thing?
Revised tactics(will be changed if Lewis is willing to fix that minor issue):
Minesweep3r: Press the pit release button and use my scoops and pushing power to get under the back of Liar 2 and pit it immediately. Avoid O.I.D, but get under it and flip it if it tries to atatck. If someone in the same booth as me is ganging up on me along with the people in the other booth, then hit them on the head with a conveniently located wooden board(Hey? How else will it be fair!?!?).
Bandwagon 2: CrOoKeD EvO, you die here and now... Get under the sides/rear and flip it OOTA ASAP. Avoid SDU, SHA2, and Leprosy Infection. If Jinx tries to get involved, get under and ram it into Leprosy Infection. If someone in the same booth as me is ganging up on me along with the people in the other booth, then hit them on the head with a conveniently located wooden board.
ISRRNY: Team up with Christopher to destroy Iron Awe 5, mainly by preventing Corona from trying to attack me. Try to flip Lime-Y at least once, and if an opportunity to flip Iron Awe 5 OOTA occurs, then do so. If someone in the same booth as me is ganging up on me along with the people in the other booth, then hit them on the head with a conveniently located wooden board.
Cyrilium 5: Kody, what do you say we put our differences aside and wipe the floor with Gravity? If he says yes, then press the pit release button and use my lifting arm as a clamp to grab and pit the realie. If not, use the same tactics on Under Pressure, Gravity, or Traffic Warden(whichever one's closer...). If someone in the same booth as me is ganging up on me along with the people in the other booth, then hit them on the head with a conveniently located wooden board.

Why should he? It's an annihilator, and everybody goes for the weakest link (you, in this case, and it's obvious why :P) here. :P

No we can't, because it wouldn't be fair and you know it.

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
...well you're just an easy target really :P Other people will go for you first for their own personal reasons, and your robots don't really set the world on fire, so it's far more beneficial to me to join the crowd rather than team up with you and risk almost certain early elimination.
How were you supposing Lewis would stop it anyway, he just writes the rather awesome battles :proud:

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Wedga Triton vs. ¿3 vs. SOTAR vs. Orka RV vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent
I think it would be wise to try and conserve flips in this round, so I€™ll try and act as more of a rambot. I don€™t have any particular targets, so it€™s just a case of trying to survive the opening round. Be annoying and ram into whoever I can, and occasionally use a few flips.
Gabriel V vs. Liar 2 vs. Minesweep3r vs. OID vs. Gehenna vs. Bloody Frigid
For now I'll join the general consensus of going for Minesweep3r, attack it however I can and generally avoid getting into too much trouble with robots other than Minesweep3r and/or the arena hazards, exercise common sense and get through the round safely.
Sheer Drunk Attack vs. Jinx vs. Bandwagon 2 vs. CrOoKeD EvO vs. Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Leprosy Infection
Goodbye Bandwagon?
Corona vs. Lime-y vs. PsycloniZer vs. Die-Reverta-Tops vs. ISRRNY vs. Iron Awe 5
I€™ll accept the team-up with Mark. Well, I won€™t bother attacking him anyway. Or his robot€¦ ah yes, the battle. Spin up, have some fun, take Tracy€™s skirts off. I think I better start this again. :uhoh:
Traffic Warden vs. Under Pressure vs. Magnitude vs. Cyrilium 5 vs. Gravity vs. Macduff the 5th
Goodbye Cyrilium?
Back to Rock III vs. Venus Fly Trap II vs. Spring-BOK vs. Still Hurting vs. Mobile Failure vs. Axeon 4.0
Distract Joey with a box of teacakes while I push Still Hurting down the pit. If this fails, share teacakes until the others have disposed of Spring-BOK!
Good luck all! :)

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
First battle up later tonight or this weekend
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Figured I ought to get at least one tactic up now... :lame:
Wedga Triton [#4] vs. Nidhogg Cubed vs. SOTAR vs. Orka RV vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent
I don't think I want to bother with Mornington Crescent or N³, so if they try to bother me, try to get away. But Wedga Triton, Wedginator 9.0, and Orca RV... heh heh heh. :)
I think I'll go after.... Orca, though if there is a really good opening on any of the other 2, take advantage of it, just to let them know I care!
...It seems like a plan, at least. XD

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Hello and welcome to tonight€™s thrilling episode of Mechanical Maelstrom, the first of the Annihilation series.
6 robots will enter the Annihilation Stadium, but only 1 will live to fight again in the series final. One robot will be eliminated each round until only the winner remains in classic annihilator style.
First off, let€™s meet tonight€™s competitors!
From Lincolnshire in England, representing Team ??? and currently ranked #4, Wedga Triton!
This blue box wedge is no stranger to Mechanical Maelstrom, as it finished in a very high 4th place in season 2.0, reaching the heady heights of the semi-finals before it fell to eventual champion Dantu. It is unchanged from then, and still packs the full pressure rear hinged flipper that sent robots tumbling out of the arena last time around. The S28-400 magmotors in the drive easily move the robot around, and the hardox armour gives adequate protection, but the the co2 supply is limited as with any pneumatic flipper.
From Pontefract in West Yorkshire, representing Team Picus, Nidhogg Cubed!
Also a veteran of Mechanical Maelstrom, this lifter/crusher lost in the opening melee of Mechanical Maelstrom 2.0 when it was outclassed by Autoism 3.0 and Back to Rock III and dumped from the competition. It returns unchanged, with front lifting forks and overhead hydraulic crusher, perfectly capable of a lot of damage, but more commonly used to clamp opponents and drop them in the pit. The hydrostatic drive gives very precise and easy control, but the base armour is only aluminium and the main titanium armour quite thin by vapourbot standards.
From Patricia in Canada, representing Team Alt, SOTAR!
This season€™s first newcomer is a powerful ring spinner that can also run inverted. With both drive and weapon being powered by meaty PERM motors this machine packs some serious punch, and with the name Sit On This And Rotate to scare away opponents what could possibly go wrong? Everything, if it meets any axes as with such powerful weaponry and motors top and bottom armour has paid the price with just aluminium to protect itself, and the shape isn€™t ideal to push other robots around either.
From Onehouse in Suffolk, representing Team Dinowarrior, Orka RV!
The latest version in the Orka line of robots is a simple box wedge with a rear hinged flipping arm on board. It€™s a newcomer to Mechanical Maelstrom, although the team has previous experience as Leprosy Infection reached the semi-finals of the first season and also competed the second time around along with Mega Masher 2. This machine is a very good all rounder, with tough 7mm titanium armour, a durable and powerful flipping arm and also a 6 wheel drive that can work upside down! However, it isn€™t the best at turning.
From Etobicoke in Canada, representing Team Zlayerz, Wedginator 9.0!
Perhaps the most original robot in this opening annihilator, the ninth robot in the Wedginator series has a set of long eletric lifting prongs coupled with a powerful pneumatic spike that can not only damage but also flip robots after they are lifted by the arms. The 4mm hardox monocoque armour has bolted to it a 5mm titanium/vanadium alloy cage for extra defence and the lynch motors in the drive provide plenty of power for shoving other robots around the arena. The omni-wheels at the rear work well with the normal front wheels giving Wedginator both power and manouevrability to use against opponents, but it is an untested design.
From Glasgow in Scotland, representing Team Braveheart, Mornington Crescent!
Another unusual competitor is Mornington Crescent, a nice innovation in the crowded world of vapourbot ring spinners. This machine packs not one, but two spinning rings into the robot. It can still run when inverted, and has magmotors in the drive for controlled movement, while lynch motors power the weaponry. Each ring spins in a different direction, cancelling out any gyroscopic forces and allowing the robot to drive around easier. However, with two spinning rings perhaps each one lacks power compared to wepaons like the mega-ring of SOTAR in this fight.
Roboteers, standby!
Booth Red: Team???, Team Picus, Team Braveheart
Booth Blue: Team Dinowarrior, Team Zlayerz, Team Alt
3...
2...
1...
ACTIVATE!
Activate is called and Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation gets underway, with all six machines moving across the arena towards one another, as all 3 spinning rings get up to speed and Wedginator 9.0 makes the first onslaught very quickly, ramming straight for Orka RV, catching Chris by surprise as the attack was so swift and unexpected! Wedginator drives the forks under the 8mm side ground clearance of Orka, lifting the arms and taking Orka off the ground very quickly, firing the spike and turning Orka over very quickly! SOTAR takes advantage of Orka being on its side and runs in on the attack just as Orka self-rights, hitting the base and ripping a gash in it as well as flipping Orka back over!
Orka is beached for a few seconds before the flipper resets, but then it€™s invertibility enables it to drive away and press the pit release button before it self-rights! Meanwhile Wedga Triton has taken advantage of SOTAR€™s momentary stationary pause after its connection with Orka RV and rams the new ring spinner onto the killsaws! A shower of sparks and SOTAR is thrown away across the floor as it spins up the weaponry again. Mornington Crescent remains in the background at this point, both rings spun up to speed, but staying out of the action for the time being. Nidhogg Cubed is playing a similar game, seemingly just waiting for that opening to attack an opponent.
Orka RV seems to be Wedginator€™s main target in this match, as the distinctive alligator wedge drives at Chris again, this time failing to get around the side as Orka runs past Wedginator and pushes under the side of Wedginator, firing the flipper to send Wedginator over! Kody self-rights quickly with the arms and uses is rear to push against the side of Orka RV, using his more powerful drive to push Chris€™ machine into the dual spinning rings of Mornington Crescent! Orka is tossed away with another gash, this time in the side and already the Team Dinowarrior entry is looking pretty beaten up!
It must be tough being teamed up on like this, but Orka RV sees an opening to attack Wedga Triton, ramming at Andy€™s side as backs away from SOTAR, breaching the side of Wedga and firing the flipper to toss the blue box wedge robot up and over! It self-rights quickly, but in drives SOTAR, colliding with both robots and leaving Wedga Triton with scars in the hardox armour as well as ripping the gash in the side of Orka RV even wider! And now carbon dioxide gas is escaping from Chris€™ robot, leading us to believe that the co2 supply has been ruptured, and so Orka RV can€™t use its flipper!
Realising this, Wedginator 9.0 drives in quickly and lifts, using the spike a second time to send Orka RV tumbling over again just as Nidhogg Cubed sees that the time is right to attack and drives towards the pair of robots just as Orka RV lands on its backside, allowing Joey to drive under the side and lift it with the forks before the crusher comes down, digging into the gash SOTAR put into the base armour of Orka RV and holding on tight to Orka RV, turning and heading towards the pit that Orka RV itself opened earlier on in this bout. Chris has now lost control over his robot anyway as it would seem Nidhogg Cubed pierced through the radio receiver, and all the team from Suffolk can do is look on as Nidhogg dumps Orka RV into the pit of oblivion to disappear in a puff of smoke!
CEASE!
Orka RV is destroyed and pitted and is the first eliminated from the competition!
Battle-Board
Wedga Triton [#4] vs. Nidhogg Cubed vs. SOTAR vs. Orka RV vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
w00t, the mega team-up worked. :proud:
Wedga Triton [#4] vs. N^3 vs. S.O.T.A.R. vs. Wedginator 9.0 vs. Mornington Crescent
Seems I'm the target next, however. Here I shall attack Wedga Triton. It needs CO2 to use its flipper, so I'll just keep lifting it over so its flipper gets drained from self-righting. My lifting spikes have much more leverage and force (surface area rule ;)) than his flat flipper, or any of his sides or back, so I should get under him quite easily. If S.O.T.A.R. or Mornington Crescent stick their spinny things in, ram them with the rear panel. It can take quite great a bashing before giving way. Most importantly, stay AWAY from Nidhogg as it seems the most threatening here, unless Nidhogg comes after me. If it does, try to swerve around to its sides and lift it over. If Wedga or Nidhogg present me with an opportunity, slam them into S.O.T.A.R. or Mornington Crescent and watch with glee.
If at all the situation becomes dire, open the pit and shunt something non-spinny in.
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Anymore tactics?
Next fight should be up Sunday at the latest, and I'll try and get a few more done over half-term :) Let's see if I can get this first annihilator done by the end of the month ;)
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Woo, survival! :proud:
Same tactics as before - use my good speed and manoueverability to weave through the competitors and focus my attacks on Wedginator, aiming for the sides. If I can, I'll have a go at Wedga's skirts again or S.O.T.A.R. if someone manages to stop its spinning ring.
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
Same tactics as before please :P
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
*cough* Uhh... <_<
Look for a chance to hit everybody, and if a great opprutunity opens up, attack. Until I see a good change though, annoy Wedga and Weginator, just because.

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
ive been looking at what you all say about mark, sure i dont know him that well as ive only been here since september
but you guys should show some (or even a little) respect for him like you give me (amazing isnt it that im defending mark) but i cant stand idly by and watch you pick on one of my best mates (sure you have issues with him bots and tournies) but that doesnt mean you cant treat him any different from me or you, you can team up on him in tournies sure but you cant team up on him out of a tournie
p.s now that ive said this im now waiting for every one to give me a full on punch in the face
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
:uhoh:
Tactics: Same as before... conserve the flipper and act as a rammer. Mornington Crescent will be my main target.
