Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Okay, after realizing that I had make a lot of mistakes last tourney, and also after realizing that the number of enterable tournies is very low, and after looking over old tournies such as PTT3 and Nick's Byte Size, I have decided to give myself one last try.
Rules:
I need 12 people to enter 5 vapourbots and 1 real robot apiece.
EDIT: If you don't have 5 vapourbots(Pete, Jack and Harry Orr, umm... I think that's all), then I'm willing to cut you some slack and let you use real robots to give you your 6 robot total.
Flying Robots: Banned
Clusterbots: Up to 6 parts, but if half are immobilized/destroyed/pitted, then the bot is out.
Passive Weapon Bots: Allowed
Interchangeable weapon setups allowed: As many as your robot can use.
Weight Limits:
Normal(Wedginator 9.0, Achilles): up to 100kg
Tracked(System Shock V: Hex, Darkestar): up to 110kg
Shuffler/Miscellaneous(Anarchy, Walk Don't Run 5): up to 150kg
True Walker(Absolution, Hex Appeal): up to 200kg
1: Starfire the 4th (Veteran from VRW 1)
2: Brutalis 2.1 (7)
3: Neo-Mecha (Newcomer)
4: Apocalypse II (3)
5: Behemoth (Series 1 Grand Finalist)
6: CrOoKeD eVo (9)
7: Whiplash (1)
8: Storm II (2)
9: Robin the 4th (Newcomer)
10: Envy (Veteran from VRW 2)
11: Walk Don't Run 5 (Newcomer)
12: Beast Boy 4 (Newcomer)
13: Maximum Genocide (6)
14: Gravity 5 (Veteran from VRW 1, I think)
15: Razer (I think Newcomer...)
16: Hyper Death IC (Newcomer)
The Weapon Shop:
The arena is essentially a 20m x 20m platform with pipes above the arena. The walls are 25cm high, and there are 3 of them. The last wall is a polycarbonate panel that retracts downward when a release button is pressed, and exposes the robot to 3 side-by-side conveyor belts with small barbs on them to grab robots. These belts lead to a 3m x 4m pit, and will push your robot into it. Don't worry about your robot though, as the 6ft deep pit is filled with a section of soft Tempur-Pedic mattress foam, so your robot won't get badly damaged. In each of the 4 corners, there is a propane flamethrower exuding flaming gas at a temperature of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. On the 2 walls opposite eachother, there are 2 140cm wide drums, each powered by a custom built 135hp engine mounted outside the arena. Each drum spins at a dangerous 8000rpm, and puts out over 300kjs! The wall opposite the panel contains 2 CPZs: One on the left side of the wall, and one on the right side. Each of the CPZs is a 4m x 5m rectangle, and contains 1 house robot. in between the 2 CPZs, the is a 10m gap, and on the wall is the button to release the polycarbonate panel and expose the conveyor belts. We're not done, however. There are 6 50cm diameter special alloy pipes running above the arena. These pipes are filled with burning thermite, and have been known to leak a bit, so if some drips on your robot, watch out! There's a grill in the middle of the arena that spews out Co2, so if some thermite drips on you, head to the the grill to cool yourself off.
The stats for the house robots are on my website, so that's all you need to know.
So anyways, start entering, and if you have any suggestions/criticism, please tell me. This will be the last time I do this unless it succeeds, and I think that's it.

Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
For some reason those drums don't seem like they will get much bite, I think they're spinning too fast.
NB: No stats for Project X as of yet, I'll try to work on them later today or at the weekend.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Why are the walls so low?
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I'm really not sure why I made them so low...
Question: What was the height of the walls of the Robot Wars arena?
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Okay, after thinking about it, the walls are now 50cm high.

Srimech: The axe can easily self-right it (even when it's on its side), and it can also self-right even after the axe has fired, ala Killerhurtz.
Strengths: PSYCHOTIC AXE AND PUSHING POWER
Weaknesses: NONE AT ALL! (Except for Limited Co2)
Additional Notes: The first robot to win me a tournament.
ALSO: I think the drums spin too fast. :D
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Thanks a lot for entering, Sam. Also, the drums now spin at 5000rpm, and still put out about 300kjs.

Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Just a small suggestion? Every time you get a new entry perhaps don't include loads of numbers and question marks in the spaces where entries have still be be submitted, because doing:
???
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
that six or eight times in one post then again when you have another entry makes your thread pages very long, so much so it could cause RSI in people's scroll fingers! :)
Why not just state the list of entries you've got, then simply state how many spots are remaining in the form of a single number?
Your thread though, so it's up to you
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Okay, Jamie. I'll do it that way.
And just as a side question: how about you use some of your old Vapour stats(Dr. Acula, Drumroll S.R, etc.) and enter? I'm just asking, so please don't think of it as a demand.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I could, but to be perfectly honest, I'm not all that interested in vapourboteering. I'm impressed with the designs, components, mechanisms etc that feature in many vapourbots and it would be really quite cool if a few of these were able to be constructed as real robots. The battles as well are generally of a high standard and good writing etc but its just not something I find grips me or is that absorbing for me.
I have entered a few tournaments but after them I decided I would prefer to focus on designing, building, fighting and improving my featherweights which can often take up a lot of spare time in itself.
I think the three I had were Dr. Acula, Firefly and Drumroll Snr? Well consider this a bit of a vapourbot garage sale. :)
If anyone fancies any of these designs and can find stats for them somewhere (can't remember what tournies they were in :uhoh: ) they're welcome to 'buy' them. Keep the stats, change the stats, improve the stats, feel free to do whatever you like. The only thing I ask would be to change the name for Drumroll Snr. Because if I ever build a kinetic energy-weaponed heavyweight....
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I've no real interest in entering any VRW of any description, I'm willing to grab Firefly as a project though :P
To be honest my interest in vapourbots has gone down a touch with me going into real robots in a big way now - Andy's reported that as well - but I'm still willing to enter things, write the occasional fight, and have a stab at making something out of a former competitor...the right way, as opposed to Mark's methods :)
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I'll take Drumroll Sr. and Dr. Acula. And I still have 11 spots.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Okay, I might as well state this here and now: Instead of doing fights, I will instead find out the winner via using the percentages first used in Nick's Byte Size tournament. It's a more specific and seems like a simpler(good for you all, no more crappy fights) solution to all of the complaints.

-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I believe they all think that this will end badly with a possibility of an intercontinental shouting match.
If you need someone to make up numbers I'll enter pending on whether I can get some stats up in time.
Time to start work.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
It's a belief well grounded in historical precedent I'm afraid :P
There are far better tournaments to enter for your first time Jordan, seriously...
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I think that this is the one that requires the least robots so It's less for me to have to design.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
With RoboBash 2 you can enter one vapourbot and the rest can be realies.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
However, with this one, you can enter realies as long as you do not have 5 vapourbots.
So if you had 1 vapour, then you could enter 5 realies, 2 vapours with 4 realies, etc. But t only works if I'm positive you have less then 5 vapours.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Due to advice from a helpful assistant, I now only need 3 more people to make this a 24-bot minor.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
 err il enter CrOoKeD EvO, I.A.N, O.I.D....er must i enter the others? ah well if i have to il enter pick axe of doom and BOXX but id rather enter envy and orrion *orrion being my very own heavy) in their place
jack

-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
Personally I wouldn't want to enter this tournament no matter who it was written by, there are simply too many robots entered by too few people. Either robots from the same vapourboteer will frequently be drawn against each other, or unfair battles will be written to avoid that.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
This one's supposed to essentially be a filler due to VRW4 being hypoed. Also, I don't think I could get enough people for a 48-bot tourney, so meh...
If you have some way I can get 8 people, then by all means tell me, and I'll add 4 more spots.
EDIT: Oh Liam, I mentioned earlier in this thread:
Quote:
Instead of doing fights, I will instead find out the winner via using the percentages first used in Nick's Byte Size tournament. It's a more specific and seems like a simpler(good for you all, no more crappy fights) solution to all of the complaints.
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I think you're missing the point Mark.
e.g.
4 people entering 1 robot = nice small tourney, guaranteed no dodgy draws
4 people entering 2 or 3 robots = still good, more chance of dodgy draws
4 people entering 6 robots = not even enough for people to have no more than 1 robot in each heat :lame:
EDIT: What difference does that make? :P
-
Re: Oh No!!! It's VRW 5!!!
I know, but:
Quote:
If you have some way I can get 8 people, then by all means tell me, and I'll add 4 more spots.
And as far as I know, aside from possibly getting down on my knees and begging, there is no way I can convince 4 more people to enter 6 robots apiece.
