Free to a good home.
Due to imminent emigration, I have for disposal a crate that measures 4ft X 3ft X 4ft high, containing;
Mortis, as used in series 1-4 of RW's (winner best engineering s1 and the war of independence) and 3 seasons of Battlebots (winner most aggressive robot). No motors or electronics.
Minator, as used in series1. 3mm titanium monocoque that contains 2 Sauer Sunstrand hydrostatic drives (if you don't know what that means then you probably would not be able to use them). No engine or electronics.
Maelstrom, (yes I know someone else has taken the name, we registered it on several sites some years ago, but we no longer compete) all mechanical parts for what was to be a totally new robot, comprising a pair of self contained track/drives which feature an RC servo actuated 2 speed gearbox inside each (could be modified to take wheels), chassis, centre spine with an electric lifter that can lift 250kg and an accelerating linkage based electric axe/hammer, extremely reliable, was tested for more than 2 hours continuous operation and also used to cut a railway sleeper in half with 17 hits. No motors or electronics.
I also have a quantity of titanium sheet 1.2mm -7mm, several 12V sanyo nicad packs built from 10, 7.2Ah 1 1/2C cells and several compound series wound traction motors.
The rules are;
It's all free.
Whoever takes it takes the lot in one go, no I will not split.
I estimate 350+kg, you will need a good sized van or trailer.
I am prepared to deliver BUT, I would require you to come to my house first and then I will follow you home after you pay me 32p per mile one way or 16p pm each way (that's cost in fuel only).
For sale,
7, new and unused Hitec HS-5475HB continuous rotation, programmable digital servos (bought direct from them pre modded). 4.4kg.cm, 6 unopened 1 opened.
3, new and unused Hitec HS-5475HB programmable digital servos, boxed unopened. 4.4kg.cm.
1, new and unused Hitec HS-5955TG programmable digital servo, boxed unopened. 18kg.cm
1, new and unused Hitec HSR-599TG programmable digital servo, boxed unopened. 24kg.cm
Make me an offer for each or £100 the lot, last two cost £69 each.
BTW my postcode is LN8 3PN

Re: Free to a good home.
I wish I could take it :P sadly I probably couldn't get them working, I know what hydrostatic drives are and I still wouldn't have a clue...would be great if whoever got it could get the old machines running again though, I was one of those strange people who liked Mortis quite a lot back in the day...
Are you emigrating anywhere nice Arfa?
-
Re: Free to a good home.
I work in Italy now and hate the 2 weekly commute via Manchester (worst in Britain) and Milan (worst in Europe) airports. My wife and I have decided to move to our house in the south of France permanently so's I can drive (only4 hours).
BTW should read HSR-5995TG.
Jack, robots or servo's?

Re: Free to a good home.
I'll take the lot. Will send an email in a few min.

Re: Free to a good home.
I don't wish to urinate on anyone's combustible mound in the garden, but this really needs to be somebody with a lot of experience in heavyweight robots, I would prefer it to be several years of experience.

Re: Free to a good home.
cool, just so you guys know,if i got them, i will be restoring mortis to working condition, perhaps not as well as the 50k version XD but il do my best, maelstrom would also be cool for my brothers to drive, minator would be good to have, and id try to get that moving as well, i love robots and think getting mortis back out there would be great for the sport :) seeing as mortis is one of the greats :)
saying that, i understand these things are dangerous and i would respect them

Re: Free to a good home.
Teambud will take it all off your hands. would make use to build another robot.
Shane

Re: Free to a good home.
Shane, are you saying that you would be willing to destroy one of the most famous Robot Wars veteran robots just to build a new robot, or that you would use the parts of Maelstrom to build a new one?
-
Re: Free to a good home.
Dont worry. Teambud would ressurrect Mortis as close as it was. It had some awsome drive. Couple of mags in there would do the trick and would see how good we could get the weaponary. We would keep the name Mortis tho it is an iconic robot afterall.
-
Re: Free to a good home.
Probably make a new robot from what parts we have collected in the garage with the other 2 and see where it goes but Mortis would remain as close as we could get it to its former self.
-
Re: Free to a good home.
If there needing a home ill take the lot. Would be a nice addition to all the others. Whoever is lucky enough to get the lot you do realise Mortis would have to be rebuilt and used again dont you?. A robot that almost every robot wars fan will remember and would be quite an attraction. I wanna see more Robot Wars robots back in live events.

Re: Free to a good home.
yep, if i get it mortis will live again :)

Re: Free to a good home.
Hi there,
Im REALLY interested in this.
As for past experiance i built and won the UK championships in 2007 in the heavyweight catagory and havnt competed with a heavyweight since. I also run Englands first brushless powered featherweight, and work with industrial robots every day. I would love the chance to come and pick mortis up and keep it running and to maintain it to current spec. I will happily come and pick it up at the earliest conveniance to you. tomorow night even.
I would also be interested in some of the titanium sheet.
Kind regards
Dave.

Re: Free to a good home.
I Second dave should get it, i will be helping him also bring mortis back to live
-
Re: Free to a good home.
Wow, what a great deal for whoever gets it. Would love Mortis but have to admit we wouldn't do it justice due to a complete lack of time and space. Would be nice to see it up and running though.
I can't find Minator on the web, anyone got any pics of it? Just interested really.

Re: Free to a good home.
Seems there's a fair amount of people interested, from all walks of the community :P
Shane's told me he'd really like to do it justice...I believe Team Bud would too, even if it'd mean a few more holes in people from an upgraded Thor :P hope that Mortis can have justice done though, it deserves it.
-
Re: Free to a good home.
Thanks Joey. i really dont think teambud would battle it serious tho. we want it to ressurrect it and make it an icon again. Was speaking to Mike Lambert earlier and he also thinks that teambud would do it justice. Which is nice coming from him. Cheers mike.

Re: Free to a good home.
team orr will try and get it working, and yes its an iconic figure so its good to see in the arena as, its one of the most easily recognisable robots out there. i think having it in the pits and, of course, fighting in the arena (oh yes team orr fight with their bots XD) would be brilliant for the sport, which would be good :D
we may not be in the glory days of yesteryear, but i recon fighting robotics is alive and kicking and will live on for many years to come, seeing this robot back in the comunity can only be a good thing :)
and dont forget there are 2 more robots! maelstrom is looking like a great deal, and minator would be great to have, and yeah we will get them all working, if we get them ;) but good luck to everyone, let the best man/woman win :)
jack
p.s youd be making me very happy for my b-day thats coming up ;) XD

Re: Free to a good home.
This has been quite an eye opener for me, I did not think that many people would be interested, although I notice from the pm's I've received that quite a few did not read my post carefully enough, no motors or electronics means that . I believe that Mortis would probably be best as a static or exhibition only, the poor old girl is very tired, after competing in 4 seasons of RW and 3 of Battlebots in the states, plus numerous demos and non TV competitions with the same chassis.
Minator was a super heavy, Briggs & Stratton powered hydrostatic drive that had the glory of lasting a whole 3 seconds because the girl that was driving got exited and opened the throttle too fast, stalling the engine. Would make a great target/housebot due to the 3mm Ti shell.
Maelstrom was my baby, the culmination of years of experience in the arena. Wish I had the time to complete it myself...............
All of these robots would need serious time, effort and not least money to resurrect, they are not for the dreamer. At the moment there are three serious contenders, I'm going to think about it and will make a decision later this morning.

Re: Free to a good home.
OK. The decision has been made, the new owner has been sent a pm. Once they have called me to discuss I will give my reasons and choice.
Sorry to the unsuccessful but it was a very difficult choice for me, it is also a large part of my life that I enjoyed immensely and will be sad to see them leave, happens to all parents at some time in their lives. Mortis bought me to the attention of a company that offered me a job and eventually led me to become a designer of industrial production lines and robotics.

Re: Free to a good home.
oh out of interest are the 12v packs, ti, and motors still up for grabs?
cos if they are il have them :)

Re: Free to a good home.
Whoever was successful, if you feel like sending a bit of that titanium plate my way for my new feather I wouldn't be unhappy :P
-
Re: Free to a good home.
Ok guys and gals.
Teambud were very fortunate to be the proud new owners of the Iconic Mortis and Maelstrom, also Minator. We both would like to thank Arfa for this generous gift.
So now Teambud have for sale Mortis at £3000 and Maelstrom for a snip at £5000.
Just kidding
Our plans for Mortis will be to get it to a running chassis and with lots and i mean lots of TLC will be a display robot at every event teambud attends. To confirm Mortis will not be a battle robot but display only. Tho a run out now and then for demo might happen.
Maelstrom....will get a name change first off....not sure what yet. We have plans to get it battle ready but this will take a little time and effort. Probably not competition fights but white board only. We feel it is worthy fighting against. It is very mortis like, an evolution of the old mortis maybee and back in the day it would been a formiddable robot.
Minator has a very interesting drive and we havent decided what to do with it yet.
We do have quite a bit of 1.2mm ti and will be donating it to teams in need but please dont hassle me for it yet i have lots of other things on my plate. Will advertise on here when we are ready to give it away. I am sure Arthur wont mind but i will just make sure with him first, and thats after we have used what we need for Mortis and maelstrom which i will for the time being call robot X
regards
and thankyou Arthur

Re: Free to a good home.
So everybody knows now, I left it to Shane to tell you.
Reason, I have known the guys for a long time and believe that they will do justice to our ethos, Rob and I spent quite a few 40 hour days on Mortis, those that were involved right from the start will know that without fail we would still be building the robot right up to scrutineering.
I have been overwhelmed by the interest, didn't know how much people liked Mortis.
I hope that they will hand out any spare materials at some time in the future. Everything now belongs to Teambud it is entirely up to Shane and Jason what they do with it all, although I would be a little !£$%^& annoyed if it was sold, £3K!! nowhere near enough.
All the best Teambud.
Arthur and Rob
Team Random Violence Technologies.
Which is now defunct, so if someone needs a cool team name....................
