Team Orr's new creations...
well, we have had a busy year so far, wev been to a couple of events, and learned loads. wev had some good time *remembers vs dantomkia* and some bad times *remembers vs tilly evo* but all of them were great fun :)
a lot has been going on since you have last seen us, first off we have updated our ants
pic of one of our ants dead meat:
http://s770.photobucket.com/albums/xx34 ... ture10.jpg
(and we uploaded loads more ants, pics to follow)
wev had several ideas for feathers, a crusher, a pusher and two flippers will eventually be built.
and mythras has had a upgrade, we are now faster, stronger and the wheels are protected by a side bar :)
so all in all, team orr are back and ready to rumble!
when we update/rebuild/start building we will post here :)

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
knocked up a few Rx battery's, saved a few bob and they work really well! they look the part too.
im thinking of making a bigger, 12v pack for a feather, then if i want i can stick 2 together to make 24v :P
does anyone know where i can get some decent cells? rechargable of course :) and possibly a charger for them? or would anyone happen to have a old pack lying around?

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
3 more ideas have come up, for feathers:
1: mine, its called active8 :P its a crusher, made of polycarbonate with hopefully about 400-500kg's of crush
2: this one is for both my brothers, its called woody the woodpecker, made of wood with a great big spinning drum on the front :P hopefully powered by a speed900 which should give it plenty of speed :) also for non-spinner events we have a wedge to put on the front :)
3: for my dad, its a box wedge made of 4mm mild steel, un-named as yet and a simple ram bot :)
in other news, my ants are now all working, and we might have a new heavy for reading 8)

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
picked up a couple of belts from...currys  for the drum spinner, crusher mech has been put to one side for a while, whilst we get crazy train working.
vid of new feather to be put up soon...

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
well alot happend today...
25/9/09: Dave Weston came round to help fix some of my robots after RFRC 2. first off we found a problem with one of dead meats motors, but it turned out to just be a cold solder joint, phew!!!
next up was flamboyant, now, flamboyant used 2 standard servos, hacked so it just contained a motor and 2 gears, as drive, it was made by Craig Danby, at aws28 we noticed one side had stopped working. today we took it apart to see what had happened...turns out one motor had died...so we got a replacment from another servo and tried to swap them, sadly this didnt work, so we took both servo drive pods out off the robot and replaced them with 2 micro geared motors, w00t that made it run pretty fast :) dave also donated the old wheels from F.I.N and that worked well, ta dave!!!
next we turned our attention to Valliant, he had taken a nasty hit from mutant at RFRC and the rx had conked out! we replaced that with a ar500....this is when i had my brainwave, we took the one working drive pod from flamboyant and mounted that on the chassis, then dave wired that up to a scorpion mini and connected that to the rx, then we attached a axe to the servo horn on the servo and we had a working axe unit! or so we thought....it wouldnt work for some reason, we tested it with daves stuff, worked REALLY well, but in valliant nada...dave took it home to play around with it, i spokeo him on msn a few minutes ago and he said your battery is only 4.8v, thats the minimum limit the `sorpion can work at. its possible its not charged enough to power the motorthe motor itself works, tried it when i got home.
so itsounds good!
we had loads of practice fights, i even got dave to eat a wrap for tea XD ph and dave gave me the old satanix :) so its going well :)

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
dont expect much for a few days, in bed with concusion :( after getting dump tackled in rugby

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
I can update slightly in Jack's absence:
I've got the new Valliant all working, only slight issue is armour, which was going to be 1.5mm polycarbonate, but this would push the robot to 158g, so I am working on getting the weight down without sacrificing too much armour. There isn't much to the robot itself, and the base is already full of holes (seriously, its like swiss cheese), but I need to lose 8g, and in an ant thats a lot.
I'll keep you posted on Valliant's diet :)
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
The wheels should weigh about 8g :P
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
pffff i need the GIANT wheels joey :P
well done dave, any piccys?
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
got the old satanix working today, well we had some controll XD the wheels were spinning franticly and i managed to get them to go backwards and forwards at quite some speed :D we managed to get a bit more controll b4 the battery died :( just need a link now :)
oh, and we made a trolly for the feathers :)
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
Sounds sweet.
What battery does the old Satanix have?
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
im not sure kody, i only got motors, wheels and a shell (ta dave :) ) i got the esc and battery from tom (aka muchalucha) and the rx from one of my ants, need the lid to arrive from dave befor i can do much more structualy, electronicaly wise its looking good, few bugs to sort out but it should be running in some form at RL reading.
oh yeah it needs a name, any ideas? been looking at things with ORR (as in team orr) like orrion (heavy) and orrganic ( beatleweight)
in other news:
new antweight walker is in the build, its called christian scott-donkey :uhoh:  ( jeremy clarkson refrence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_IGbTnf23U lol ) complete with nodding head :)

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
hey
orrion did well at it first event we puntured pucks tire and then proceded to flip him oota :) incredibly no major cock ups on our part but we did lose a chain after behemoth slamed us against a wall, but with some help from shane and pete lale, and rob and gilbert grim, oh and i think joey as well :P we manged to get the chain back on, also the hight ajusting foot snapped off, but thats not essntial so we left that untill after the event, we are now waiting for some screws to reattach it. there has also i slightly bent pneumatic ram for one of the side righters, thats why we couldnt self right in our first melee, but we fixed that with the help of rob and a great big hammer :P

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
new feather on the way, it looks a bit like black hole (as seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqfF0xso ... re=related) uses two stainless steel blades for the disks and a wheelchair motor (minus gearbox) for the weapon motor, its made of polycarb with some wooden bulkheads (which will be upgraded to steel of hdpe) theres also some carbon fibre and some rubber to protect some of the more vital parts, it uses 2 drill motors for drive, and a team thants esc, im not sure what il use for my batterys, any sugestions, plz keep in mind though that i have quite a small budget :P
im aiming to get this done for the new year

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
Those disks won't engage, they're cut off wheels. To get anthing effective out of them you'll want really high RPM and even then you'll just be throwing sparks.
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
Or add some nice big teeth :D
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
what size are those discs? I have some ally discs u can have to make proper discs those will shatter and were banned by robot wars not sure if the FRA allows them will have to check
-
Re: Team Orr's new creations...
hey all
yeah they were the cheap option for my first feather spinner
@ nick, fair play, however from thetest i did earlier they got thru some 3mm polycarb i had lying around. but yeah thanks
@jordan, lol
@ craig, no sure but about the size of a cd, i can go bigger and thicker though

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
well with the help of craig i now have some new disks lined up :) so roll on 2010 where i can test this bad boi :P

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
Jacks just discovering his inner gangster   .
May i make a recomendation about your gearing jack , with the new teethier (?) disks your getting , swap the sprockets round on the motor and threaded rod so it goes 1500 rpm instead of 6000 rpm !! (2:1 gearing and 3000 rpm motor for anyone not in last night msn convo :P)

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
Hi Jack, did you leave a small, black glue gun at Reading :?:
I posted that I had found it a while back but got no response :|
I will keep it with me but I'm not going to Wigan, too far for one day
Mike.

Re: Team Orr's new creations...
hey mike
nope :lame: sorry, i thnk your looking for the guy who put the rc cars in the arena?
oh btw kody, there wasnt a mixer on that, and its a really bad transmitter so in order to make it go forwards you had to press left on one stick, move the ratchet up on the other stick, press right on that stick, and press the channel switch on top of the tx  am i excused now? :uhoh: good news is that a mixer is in :proud:
