Theres Two Sides To Every War
OK, this is it. This is my LAST attempt at trying to do something. Everything Ive done thus far has fallen flat on its face...but I came up with a concept that might be interesting...
I need 8 people to enter one robot. The usual stats apply.
However, you must also choose a number, between 1 and 8. You cant have the same number twice. This will be vital for later on.
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
BIACS-IS of Evilution
number 4
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
As in usual does Thor count? If Thor is ok can I enter that please. Number 1 of course :)
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
...I have to admit I didnt realise youd posted in the RPG thread until this came up, if you are continuing with that as well I shall gladly give tactics :)
And I shall enter http://strickenone.proboards99.com/i...y&thread=160No
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Of course you can, Mr Swan.
And yes, Joey, I can continue it.
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Ill pick #2, and choose Harraz as my robot. Stats on the ZED board.
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Apocalypse II, number 3, stats in a few minutes

Chris, I hope this works out for you.
Ill take 7. Ill enter a real robot: Gravity since I cant think of any robots to make
Good luck with this :)

Theres Two Sides To Every War
Apocalypse Apocalypse II
Robot Name: Apocalypse II
Weight: Roughly 100kg
Shape: Box wedge with sloped sides, ala Storm II. The front wedge is angled at 30* to get under opponents, and the sides are sloped at 42* to deflect spinners. The rear is rounded for easier self-righting.
Length: 80cm
Width: 60cm
Height: 15cm
Motivation: 2 x internal HDPE wheels, each are 125mm in diameter and they have vulcanised tyres for extra grip, plus they are mounted like Tazbot€™s for more manouevrability. They are in the centre of the robot so that neither end swings cumbersomely.
Drive: 2 x S28-400 magmotors run @ 24v from 2 x 3600mAh NiCad battlepacks; this should provide about 9 horsepower.
Armour: 3.2mm hardox monocoque for the most part, strengthened in certain key areas with extra 5mm titanium/vanadium alloy sheeting.
Weaponry: The robot is a decent pusher, but on top there are three sets of Mute-style barbs, one on each side and one running down the flipper arm. These are tungsten tipped to allow it to trap robots on top, and once their stuck on top they can€™t get free. The second weapon is what I use to get rid of the robot stuck on the barbs. It is a Bio-Hazard style 4-bar flipping arm, but unlike Bio-Hazard it is run off full pressure pneumatics, meaning it will easily throw robots out of the arena. It is 30cm wide and runs down the centre of the robot, made of 4mm hardox and powered by a 120mm x 100mm bore stroke ram @ 750psi from a 1.5kg gas bottle, giving it about 10 flips per round, which should be enough. On the front of the flipper arm there is a strip of 8mm grade 2 titanium, which should aid in getting under the other robots
Speed: 15mph
Ground Clearance: 0 at front, 8mm at sides and rear, but this is protected by 5mm titanium torsion-sprung skirts made of grade 2 titanium.
Turning Circle: Using the skid steer system ala Razer gives Apocalypse II a 0 turning circle
Srimech: The 4-bar flipper can right it in less than a second, but to conserve gas there is an electric srimech hinged at the rear of the robot. This is the two strips of barbs on either side of the machine lifting up to vertical via a Bosch 750w motor run @ 28.8v from a NiCad battlepack. This rights the robot in 1 second, and can also be used offensively to tip opponents stuck on the barbs into the pit
Colour: This new Apocalypse keeps the colour scheme of the old one, with dark blue bodywork and a red weapon.
Strengths: Powerful weaponry, unique strategy
Weaknesses: Limited gas for the flipper
Notes: This new Apocalypse trades the powerful drive motors of the old one for more armour, as well as bringing in a new 4-bar system and a new srimech idea, albeit with less gas for the flipper. This shouldn€™t effect it too much though as the lifter can still be used to dump opponents in the pit or stack them against a wall. The previous robot enjoyed some success, and hopefully this new, more original version will build on that.
Last time the emphasis was more on the flipper, but this time around the focus is more on the barbs, which were under-used last time and so this time around the design is focused around the barbs instead of around the flipper.

OK, one more to take spot 5.
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Ill take it. Tira V please. :)
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Great. Now then, we can start the tournament.
THERES TWO SIDES TO EVERY WAR
TEAM 1: Thor, Apocalypse 2, Tira V, Compression
TEAM 2: Harraz, BIACS-LE of Evilution, Gravity, No Consequences.
Here are the rules.
-Well be fighting in the standard Robot Wars arena.
-There will be two colour strips down the side, one red and one blue (much like the Series 4 Tag Team Terror).
-As you can see, the eight robots have been randomly drawn into two teams.
-Both teams enter the arena together.
-Only two members from each team can fight in the arena at once.
-If one team member wishes to retreat, they can tag any of their other teammates.
-The round ends when any one robot is eliminated.
-The remaining robots then go back into the arena continue fighting.
-The tournament ends when all the members of one team is eliminated.
This is mostly experimental, but it has worked in testing.

-As you can see, the eight robots have been randomly drawn into two teams. You mean that one team is comprised of odd numbers and the other is comprised of even numbers. Yeah I can see why the quotation marks are there. :proud:
Right, this sounds interesting to be sure. If I can right now, I shall give tactics...
I dont really fear any of the opposing team members actually. The most threatening here seems to be No Consequences, and if somebody goes in there and stops him from spinning, hes not really too dangerous anymore. Gravity is relatively easy with his armour, Harraz sounds like a tasty morsel as well. BIACS-IS could be tricky, but any hits on the sides and rear should be fine.
Id like to go out first with either Apocalypse 2 or Thor, if Liam or Shane wish it. If Im facing off against No Consequences, Id ask my partner to attack it while I spin up. I dont think NC would be able to do too much damage to their machines anyway and once Im spun up, smash NC to hell. If Apocalyse 2/Thor gets attacked by NCs partner, attack that instead. Otherwise go in and kill. Self-right when needed, and scorn Joeys comments about me being unable to self-right: he who scoffs at Tiras ability to self-right shall be utterly vanquished. :P If Im in trouble, tag Compression and recover.
Good luck with this Chris. :)
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
An 8 way Tag Team Terror. This should be good!
Tactics: Just flip everyone who gets in my way
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
I shall just spin up at the start and endeavour to remain spinning up for the rest of the fight. Dont go for anyone in particular, just spin, avoid Thor, and if Im in close combat and not spinning, lift whoever it is over onto their side or rear (and if its Tira, enjoy it trying to self right with that flipper shaped like that and the sides shaped like that :P) and then find somewhere to spin up again.
If possible keep to the middle of the arena as Id rather not be flipped out.
Best of luck to everyone :)
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
If its ok with the rest of my team Id like to stay in the tag area first. Gives me sufficient time to get the disc up to speed and I dont have to worry about about having to run away or anything to give myself time.
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
I think it would actually better to let Thor go out with Tira V first, the disc can deal with the others and Thors hammer wll do some nice damage to No Consequences me thinks :P
If anyones in trouble though- tag me!
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
In that case I shall urge Shane to mercilessly attack No Consequences while I deal with Joeys partner. :P
And if for some reason unknown to mortal robots I am not able to self-right, Id like to ask my partner to right me. :P

Theres Two Sides To Every War
Ill be hoping to start soon. If any of the other victims...err, I mean, participants, have some tactics to post, thatd be great.
Could I also get some clarification over which versions of Thor and Gravity were using? Ive not actually seen either of them since their last appearance in Robot Wars, so...
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
I want to use the version of thor that is now please. its the best one so far :) and my tactics will be to drive like a demon and hit timed and well positioned hits
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Chris, you can find videos of the new Thor in the Live Events Discussion board. :)
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Ill be using the Series 7 Gravity, Chris
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
OK, lets start...
ROBOT WARS - THERES TWO SIDES TO EVERY WAR.
Welcome to Robot Wars, and a new brand of destruction. Tonight, we have a first. Two teams will be competing against each other in an all-out rumble. And let me tell you, teamwork means everything here. If all the members of one team are eliminated, the other team, regardless of how many team members are left, will win.
So, lets have a look at the competitors.
--------
BATTLE 1.
Well, this should be interesting. This is going to be completely unpredictable, as it could finish after four fights, or after seven.
And the first member of the red team comes out. Its Apocalypse 2, represented by Liam Elliot, and its a nasty piece of work. What we have here is a low slung box with two angled wheels to gain extra traction. It has a turning circle of zero, and a nasty four-bar pneumatic flipping arm to boot. Not only that, but he has a unique stratergy playing for him.
Next up to enter the ring is Compression by Lewis Matthews. a triangular monocoque, polished to perfection, even his wedges and skirts are hindged to protect him when hes upside down. If that wasnt enough, theres over 4 tonnes of pressure from the crushing claws at the front. He looks like the perfect machine, but well see.
Next up is Thor, driven by The Swan. If you remember this robot from Robot Wars, forget about it! This Thor is brand new and improved vastly. The strange shape is now black rather than red, and the hammer weapon is faster and much more powerful than ever before. This could be one to watch.
Finally for the red team is Tira V, driven by Kody Kunz. Shes got an attitude and it shows. Another monocoque, made of Hardox and tough to crack, Tira boasts a nasty verticle spinning blade, 22 kilos in total, up to 2500 rpm and with teeth that can flip AND rip. The self-righting mechanism, however, is questionable, to some people anyway...
And now lets welcome the blue team. First in, we have BIACS-IS of Evil-Ution, driven by Will Harrison...and frankly one of the strangest bots Ive ever seen. Basically, it looks like a pyramid, with hardox arms which raise and lower, revealing a very nasty looking spinning disc weapon. Itll be interesting to see how it works.
Then we have our second real robot, Gravity, who has been entered by Elliot Stevens. You all know Gravity by now, shaped like a snowspeeder, extremely powerful full-pressure flipper, very successful...but I dont trust the armour.
The next robot to enter is Harraz. Entered by Paul Cuomo, we have yet ANOTHER monocoque, basically a very low slung box, with angled sides to make it difficult to grab, with a black, blood-stained lifting arm that can not only overturn a robot, but can pin it as well. Hes quick and powerful, but he cant really do much to his foes.
Last, but by no means least, we have Joey McConnell and his machine, No Consequences, and I doubt there will be after this. Very low to the ground, very easy to control, tough to damage and it can spin at up to 1000rpm. However, it has a terrible secret...it has a fear of runaway steamrollers.
ROBOTEERS, STAND BY.
So, the rules are that only two members of each team may be in the arena at once. Apocalypse 2 rolls back into the red zone along the side of the arena, closely follows by Compression. That will leave Tira and Thor to start for the red team. As for the blue team, BIACS has backed into the blue zone. And there, following him is Harraz, leaving No Consequences and Gravity.
The House Robots to start off in round 1 will be two classics, Dead Metal and Shunt.
3....2....1....
*ADVERT BREAK!*

I think, anyway:proud:

Theres Two Sides To Every War
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
OK, sorry for the wait, Ive had quite a bit of uni work, but thats hopefully out of the way, so Ill be writing some more soon.
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Ive not done tactics yet, so Ill post them now, seeing as Ive got the time.
Drive into the claws of Compression - its inspired by Kan-Opener, so it should be OK to attack front-on and get under. Even if I dont, I can outpush him and my sloped sides will prevent the claws from being effective against my armour - which is 5mm Hardox, so it should be fine against a crusher anyway.
Once underneath my opponent, push him towards the wall as hard as possible, lift him up and try to stack him on the wall. If the stacking KO rule is in place, leave him there. If not, let Gravity throw him OOTA :proud:
Good luck everyone
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
From Compressions stats:
SKIRTS: A 5mm hardox hinged wedge at the front (between the claws)
WEAPON 2: The hinged wedge between the claws beaches opponents with the Mute-style barbs it has so that the opponent can be pushed around while the claws keep hold
...uh...Paul...

Theres Two Sides To Every War
Oh, come on Joey, let him make his own mistakes.
-
Theres Two Sides To Every War
Just keeping this thread alive by posting randomly :proud:
-
Re: There's Two Sides To Every War
Yeah, thanks, but this, as well as my RPG, is on hold for the moment.
-
Re: There's Two Sides To Every War
Just looking in, thats all
-
Re: There's Two Sides To Every War
I understand, but I've suddenly run into a major lack on insentive.
Perhaps if I re-enact the tournament that gave me this idea in my home arena, it might get me somewhere.
-
Re: There's Two Sides To Every War
So Chris, you play Robot Wars at home as well?
I used to play it with toy cars, but now I've moved house, I can't be bothered.
What would make it easier is to make all the robots that have entered this out of Lego, but I assume you do not have enough :proud:
Just saying
-
Re: There's Two Sides To Every War
Yes, I do. And I came up with the idea whilst playing Robot Wars....I was having a War of Independence competition at the time, and I was wondering how best to make it work. It was then that I came up with the idea to have two giant teams; the American Pressure Point, Spinny Thingy, T2 (no relation) and Terminal Velocity fighting against the British Dalek, Mini Masher, Shadow and Ultimator in one go. It worked. So I wanted to try it here.
And....I might be able to build them...might. I'll see what I can do. I do have rather limited resources, plus a heck of a lot of Lego Robots as it stands.
-
Re: There's Two Sides To Every War
We have something in common, Chris, such as the fact we both like Robot Wars :proud:
I used to have tons of Lego, but Mum gave it away. I have one box left now. After Christmas 2008, I kept the City sets on my table, which is now in my bedroom
Everything is rubbish now Robot Wars is gone. You seem to keep the spirit going with the Super Seeds championship (I read some, and it was very good)
For now, I'll leave it in your hands
See you later :)
