What colours are your robots painted?

Im asking this question just becuase i dont want to use similar colours to everyone else maybe use some new colours not currently in use

So what colours have you painted your robts? mainly on the feathers here but heavy paint job descriptions are welcome too :)

All the killercarrot robots used Plastikote orange glow and green glow on a white primer base

Pillow Torque-
3 coats of Plastikote metalic blue / metalic burgandy + 3 coats clear lacquer over 2 coats white primer over 1 coat acid-etch primer, baked at 60 degrees for 1.5 hours.
(Dont say it..I know.. I have too much time on my hands! :))

how on earth did you come up with that reciepe

Hunter: Midnight and Sky blue 50/50ed
BrilliANT: Mostly blue with hazard tape.
BrilliANT 2: Blue (havent decided yet)
Chuzzle: Blue fur.

Since 2005 all our robots have featured a metallic blue that Im quite partial to that was available in spray cans from Homebase. I then discovered them £2 cheaper in B&Q so stocked up on a few. I go back to get some supplies for the upcoming comp and discover they arent stocked anymore :sad:
Thisll be the last year that the robots are blue for us - think Im gonna hunt down a crimson red colour for next year, give the robots a bit of a colour-theme overhaul

I think Crumple Zone in the red looks quite good Alex

I need to change the colour on my robots, Black doesnt get it noticed. Im getting a speacial front panel design done by Tom Armitage but I need to carry that around the rest of the machine.

I was thinking also about Hells Angel when it comes back: can you get red HDPE ? I know painting it doesnt help

Jamie if you go red, there will be two red drum feathers out there, could get confusing lol. But dont let that stop you. I tried metalic red at one point last year, but didnt really like it. Apocalypse is staying black and red for the coming year.

dont think you can get red hdpe only natural or black think you can get blue nylon though

You can get hdpe in at least the following colours: green, red, yellow, blue, salmon, orange and brown.
(Thats from the website of our provider...)

Team RCC has this thing with black. :proud: And red sometimes. With white letters and/or symbols.
Obsidian: black with a red axe, some white parts possible
the Hannibalitos: black (and red)
Nebelwerfer: black and red
Katjuscha: black and multicolour (green mainly)
RCC: riot of colours
Drone: does it matter ?
our other robots: cant really remember

Drone is black and red, and a line of blue.

360 has no paint :) Paint shows scratches and scratches show damage...

As for my robots,

Storm Force : Has no paint on it apart from having yellow flashes of lighting with black outlines painted on the sides. The axe is painted red and the name is printed on the flipped with black stickers.

Pug : The shell is blue, the lifter is yellow with a pug dogs face printed on it as well as the name which is also printed on with black stickers

Black and yellow hazard stripes is what mine will be (when I finish building it :P). It is physically impossible to go wrong with black and yellow hazard stripes; in my opinion anyway. Look at 101 and Panic Attack (and, uh, Flirty Skirty :proud:)

I am going for black and yellow with hornet with a red disc

So far that leaves the only colour unused to be... brown.
I think I would recommend you the colour-scheme appleblue-seagreen. Its unique as far as I can tell.
Or else you might go for solid gold.

Turbulence mk1 was gold plated after it won the uk champs- following a bet made with our sponsors :)

Then big nipper carried it on with the big nipper logo being changed from blue to gold down his lifting/crushing arm.

Dave are you worried about scratches with that disc in front protecting you?:)

lol its likely to scratch itself up if it behaves like it did originaly- testing the new motors and such tomorow- if i get chance ill put a spinup video online :)

If I was to go red Ed, itd probably be a deeper crimson colour than DB5, but yeah dont want it getting confused too much lol

Ive been watching videos of my robots again and the metallic blue really does stand out quite well so if I could get it again, Id stick with it next year too. Homebase and B&Q still have blue spray paint, but its just not as funky as the metallic stuff however Ill give that a try and see how it goes.

Alex, I like the black and yellow stripes but like the black yellow faded a bit more. Entirely your choice though :)

With my ants is it usually transparent or what colour the tape is when I put is together (black, red or silver then).

That is the most detailed paint job I ever heard. Before it used to be Undertaker in RW S3. I wonder How muck work went into the paint of Elvis back in both S1 and S2?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the top lacquer coat is cut with fine compound paste then polished! :wink:

Small Torgue - snakeskin look
2 coats white primer
2 coats Plastikote satin pink
1 medium thick coat Plastikote Crackle effect black
Stand well back............
1 thin coat Plastikote Crackle effect black
2 coats clear lacquer

Small Torque glitter look
2 coats primer
2 coats Plastikote metallic black
While top layer still tacky sprinkle pink glitter dust over painted surfaces
1 coat clear lacquer
(BTW I have painted a coffee table the same way)

few questions

is it best to use a white primer coat? what are the advantages of this?

any tips of spraying etc?

I have thought of using thick masking tape to cover the stripes but whats the best way to do the other colour withour covering the first colour?

and finally where to buy from? brand name? think most people seem to be saying plastikote

A white primer will be alot easier to cover with yellow than if you was to use say a grey primer. Lay down a few coats of primer,Let it dry, Then your yellow, Let it dry, mask off your stripes with a low tack tape then go over with black. once thats dry unmask it and go over with a clear if you want. I usually use a 1200 wet and dry between stages but you dont have to.

I use grey primer,stops the hardox rusting in my garage if left unpainted.
Thick masking tape over each stripe not being sprayed.Halords own brand paint,probably cheaper at indipendant car accesory shops.

Can you not just used striped paint?:)

Not available in Black and White Tom,only Red and White.
