Credit card for internet use only

Got back of holiday tonight to find some ***hole has emptied my robot fund account.

I took the wise pecaution of using an old account to buy and sell over the internet/ebay/paypal/etc and made sure there was no overdraft facility. Although my account has been drained it was only money I had put in the account for internet purchases that has been taken. The bank assures me that I will get it back.........

If I had used my domestic account I would be looking at a serious loss.

Do others do this? Or am I the only one?

not a bad idea trev, ive got a spair acount i dont use, ive just signed upto paypal myself- think i might use my dormant acount to do the same as you.

The main reson ive never bought anything over the net or setup a paypal acount before is because i hear so much of people getting scammed. Sorry to hear it, good look getting the money back!

Paypal is very secure, and in the many years Ive used it I only needed to resort to the dispute section twice, in both occasions by people not delivering the goods on time and not responding to emails. On both occasions I got my money back.

The key is never to click no links sent through email, but if there are funds waiting or need to be sent go to the website manually and make sure that you are indeed on the https website from Paypal itself. Firefox has a good way of showing the site is authentic since there will be a green area next to the name showing the security certificate is a valid one and who it is verfied by (in paypals case versign).

If you report abuse with Paypal they will take these matters very serioisly.

All thefts ive incurred have involved card cloning. Never had information stolen over the internet. But that doesnt mean I wont.

when i worked for amutec i had the work card cloned in slough. they bought goods like tvs and computers before it was found out.

The card cannot have been cloned because I cannot use it over the counter, so it must be someone who I have bought from over the net who has sold my card details. I ran a trojan checker and the pc has come out clean - but I cannot upgrade norton as there is no money in the account to pay for it!

i had same problem its went out in euros with online gambling LLoyds killed me card abnd money was back in in seconds

i used to have norton, but i discovered avg, its free and never had a problem with it or a virus.

i deleted norton from my computer, avg doesnt slow my computer.

At Technobots, we have to be on our guard all the time because like all merchants, we have to fund any charge backs - not the bank / card issuer. Fortunately, we find our customers are 99.9% honest, might be different if we sold PS3, mobile phones etc. However, on Friday we received an order for over £500 of servos and RC bits but what they ordered just didnt seem right for a project. So we sent them a delaying Email and sure enough, today a charge back was instigated by the card holder. At least we hadnt sent out the goods. We have been stung for a £600 Robonova before so that hurt. We have even had our company purchasing card details used by what is eventually found to be a rogue employee of a supplier. It took 3 issues of the card before the fraud people investigated by which time the crook was so confident, he actually bought health club membership and left his real name and address.
