Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
Hello and welcome to Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0.
I need 16 people to enter two heavyweight robots each, they must be vapours unless you actually own 2 realies, in which case you can enter those.
The robots must adhere to these rules:
€ž« No wheeled robot can weigh more than 100kg
€ž« No robot at all can weigh less than 80.1kg
€ž« A 10% weight advantage is given to tracks and shufflers
€ž« A 50% weight advantage is given to true walkers. The definition of a true walker must be that rotary camshafts do not operate any part of the walking mechanism, and each leg must have 2 stages of movement
€ž« No un-tethered projectiles are allowed
€ž« Cluster-bots are allowed, but there can be no more than 4 parts. Each cluster must make up an equal part of the overall weight and if 50% or more of the cluster is eliminated the whole bot is out
€ž« Pneumatic pressures cannot exceed 2400psi, hydraulic pressures 5000psi
This tournament will take place in the Annihilation Stadium V2, which is a 15 x 15m2 box with stainless steel floor and 50mm hardox walls that reach 55cm high. Inside the box there are fewer hazards than last season, but we still have a few:
€ž« Just outside of the bottom left corner there is a 2 x 2m2 pit, opened by a release button in the top right corner
€ž« In the middle of the top and bottom walls there are static spike strips, 5 metres across
€ž« In the two remaining corners there are sets of killsaws
You can reserve a spot, but it will only last three days before becoming vacant again.
The tournament structure will feature 8 qualifiers of 4 robots in the first round. Each heat is a four way melee with two robots going through, but from then on its straight knockout, with 16 robots down to 8, 8 robots down to 4, 4 down to 2 and 2 down to 1. There are four seeds in this tournament, based on their performances last time around:
04. Leprosy Infection
03. Spin Dash Unleashed
02. Gabriel III
01. Sheer Heart Attack 2
If I don¡¦t get 16 entries by two weeks today I will fill up the remaining spaces with random realies.
Get Entering!!!

I wish to confirm my reservation for the tournament opened by yourself in which robots shall do things.
My robots that shall do things are:
Gabriel IV (provisional; stats still need a bit of work doing so will be up in next couple of days - rest assured I believe it is the ultimate front hinged flipper ever designed :)) - will take Gabriel IIIs seeding if thats okay
Nidhogg Evo - http://strickenone.proboards99.com/index.cgi?board=chevhw&action=display&thread=156http://strickenone.proboards99.com/i...isplay&thread= 156

Im going to call the reservations, although Leprosy will definately be back, I need to think about my other contender.
-
Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
Given I did so badly last time around, Im going to enter two different robots - one being one of my least sucessful robots, and the other being a deadly flipper thats won me a lot of awards.
Here they are
Nitro-Gene 5.0

Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
Ill take a spot, please! :)
1. Spin Dash Unleashed (formerly Metal Sonic Spin Dash)
SHAPE- skirted box, with rounded sides and back.
COLOUR- dark blue bodywork, with red-and-white striped skirting.
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 100cm X 75cm X 20cm
SPEED- 16mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm all round, 10mm at sides and rear without skirts.
ARMOUR- 4mm Hardox
MOVEMENT- inner, 6WD
POWER- 2 x LEM-130s. These run at 36v and produce approximately 18hp.
WEAPONS- A horizontal Pussycat-style saw blade on the front. The blade is mounted on the underbelly ala Code:BLACK and is designed to chew up skirts and wheels. It is powered by an S28-150 Magmotor and runs at 3000rpm. Its 18hp and shape also makes it an excellent battering ram.
SRIMECH- invertible. The rounded sides and rear also prevent it getting beached.
NOTES- flies Scotland flag.
STRENGTHS- excellent traction, fast, tough armour, low weaponry, invertible
WEAKNESSES- untested, so-so manoueverability, saw blade less effective upside-down
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5359/spindash6ta1.pnghttp://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5...indash6ta1.png
2. Traffic Warden (HW)
SHAPE- rigid U shape, rounded rear
COLOUR- black with a yellow stripe
WEIGHT- 100kg, I hope
DIMENSIONS- 95cm X 150cm X 25cm
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 10mm
ARMOUR- 4mm Grade 5 titanium
MOVEMENT- four inner wheels
POWER- 2 x Etek-RT motors, running at 48v and producing 38hp.
WEAPONS- Two vertical hydraulic clamps within the middle of the machine. Each clamp is powered by an 80mm x 40mm ram operating at 3000psi, delivering up to 10 tonnes of crushing power. When an opponent slips into the middle, the clamps activate and hold them in place. Traffic Warden can then drag them around and shove them into the nearest arena hazard. Think of it as Huggy Bear on steroids.
SRIMECH- invertible, rounded rear should prevent it getting beached
NOTES- flies Scotland flag, super special awesome thanks to Daniel Stickler, Martijn and AJ for helping with the design
STRENGTHS- good traction, tough shell, fairly manoueverable, nippy, powerful grip
WEAKNESSES- untested weapon, exposed ground clearance

Armour: 3.25mm Hardox
Ground Clearence: 0mm on the sides due to skirts, and on the back. 6mm anywhere else (Including without skirts)
Turning Circle: Everyone should know that this is zero.
Weapon: 27kg Front Vertical Spinning Disc made from laser cut titanium, powered by 2 X LEM-130. This also has 2 Hardox teeth curved upwards, and it will spin at 3600RPM. Heavily Shock-Proofed as well.
Srimech: At the rear, there is a linear actuated bar, and it can right the robot in 1 second.
Strengths: Powerful Weapon, Decent Pushing Power, Fast and effective srimech, Very Reliable
Weaknesses: Hopefully, there is none. XD
Death Sentence
Body Shape: Just a simple Box with X-Terminator style bucket scoop
Weight: 110kg
Dimensions: 90 X 85 X 30
Drive: Steel Tracks with Asmaprene Urethane powered by 2 X LEM-130 @ 36V powered by 4 X NiCad BattlePacks
TC: Zero

Can I reserve a place, please? I will post stats tomorrow evening when the alcohol wears off! :)
Thank you!!! :proud:

Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
The May Tracks Has You
Shape: Like Comengetorix. It has a wedge extender to give it 0 mm at the front.
Speed: 15 MPH.
Dimensions(lwh A): 85CM X 45 CM X 24 CM
Armour: 4.5 MM hardox.
GC: 0 mm at the front, 6 mm everywhere else, covered by skirts made of 3 mm Ti.
Weapon 1: Rear hinged flipper, powered by two pneumatic rams at 500 psi.
Weapon 2: Upward facing spikes on the wedge. A robot can go over them, but if it tries to reverse, say goodbye to your tyres. By wedging a robot then reversing suddenly, TMTHY can impale the tyres, then fire the flipper to do loads of damage. Even a robot with stuffed tyres will be limping after that.
Drive: Inner tracks, powered by Lem-130€™s at 24 volts.
Srimech: The flipper.
Strengths: Weapon synergy, has sunglasses painted on the side. Once The May Tracks Has You, there is no escape.
Weaknesses: Axe/flipper combos could take the tracks out.
Notes: There is a strip of metal shaped like sunglasses at the top of the flipper to prevent fast robots just going straight up and over like in Storm 2 vs Firestorm.
Cobalt
Shape - Mostly a shallow wedge with a small box section at the rear.
Speed - 16 MPH
Dimensions(lwh): 70CM X 45 CM X 20 CM
Armour - 4 mm Hardox for the top, 5 mm for the sides and 5 mm Grade 5 Ti for the base.
GC - 3 CMs at the very rear, going down to 0 at the front, assisted by a sharpened wedge extender allowing it to slide under the lowest ground clearance.
Weapon 1 - The wedge.
Weapon 2 - A flat disc of doom style flywheel on the front wedge. Robots get thrown off after having their bases and wheels shredded. The disc is run on a Lem-130 on 24 volts and spins at 500 RPM. The disc is made of 4 mm Hardox, with two Hardox teeth, angled in the direction of spin.
Drive - Two wheel drive, with the wheels positioned at the very rear of the machine and castors around the middle to provide stability. This is powered by two S28-400 Magmotors on 24 volts.
Srimech - A lifting bar/plate made of 5 MM Grade 5 Ti/V. This not only self rights the robot, but also gives the disc some protection from axe attacks. The base bar is curved so it avoids hitting the disc. This is powered by a LEM-130 on 24 volts.

Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
Gabriel IV posted on ZED, stats copied here:
Gabriel IV: Enjoy The Violence
WEIGHT: 100kgs
DIMENSIONS: 105 x 80 x 30 cm
SHAPE: Elongated triangular pyramid with steep rear and very shallow front
COLOUR: Yellow body, red, yellow and black striped flipper, black shapes on either side and shiny silver skirts and spikes.
DRIVE: 2 C40-300 Magmotors run at 36v from 6 NiMh packs, driving two rear aluminium wheels with urethane rubber treads for grip on the arena floor. The motors should survive at 36v due to a 300A current limit and the use of timing belts in the speed reduction, which should slip if the wheel locks up and therefore save the motor.
SPEED: 15mph average, up to 25mph max
TURNING CIRCLE: Zero (well, due to the wheels being at the back its not exactly zero, but it turns on the spot)
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at the very front point, rising to 14mm at the rear. Side and rear 3mm 2014 T6 aluminium skirts can be fitted giving 0 all around.
ARMOUR: The whole top and internal subframes are constructed from a 5mm titanium/vanadium alloy monocoque, which is double skinned in a few key areas like the nose for extra ramming and structural strength, with first line impact reducing 7mm welded HDPE armour over the top of that. The base is 3mm 2014 T6 aluminium with a 7mm polycarbonate layer on top, and is recessed somewhat into the bodyshell/chassis for added protection if flipped. The front nose has an additional layer of 2mm spring steel over it which is sprung down to the ground to get underneath other robots.
WEAPONS: A forward hinged pneumatic flipper of the same design as its predecessors, but modified somewhat; its powered by an 80mm custom built ram that can operate at up to 2400psi, the actual operating pressure being determined by what gas is connected and from there controlled from the transmitter by a variable regulator, so the flipper runs on anything from 250psi to full pressure CO2 (750-800psi) to, if the tournament rules and assorted conditions allow, full pressure nitrogen (2400psi). The standard gas supply is a 2kg bottle of CO2 giving around 10-15 uses at full pressure with more on low pressure. (If I use anything other than that, Ill state it on entry)
The front spikes either side of the nose pointing sideways have been made slightly smaller to not get in the way as much, are made from hardened tool steel, and should cause a fair bit of damage should I go into thwackbot mode.
SRIMECH: Via weapon. The back has spikes to prevent stranding, and because of the body shape it is very unlikely to do a Mute when self righting.
NOTES: Where possible, components are shock mounted to cut down on damage from spinner impacts.
STRENGTHS: Difficult to get a grip on due to the shape, low centre of gravity, extremely good weapon that shouldnt waste gas, quite powerful and generally very tough.
WEAKNESSES: People will look at it and assume they can damage it due to the lack of Hardox (for the record, Ti/10% vanadium alloy is almost equal to Hardox 400 in terms of tensile strength and hardness, and actually is better than it for impact strength, so...yeah. :P)
For this tourney, I might as well take advantage of the pneumatic rules...the flipper system will run off of a 2 kilo nitrogen bottle giving about 5-7 flips at full pressure, but Ill be regulating it down for just turning people over and self righting which should stretch it a bit further. For the first couple of flips though, if I get right underneath...bang, watch out for those windows. :proud:

Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
Hmmm...
Nidhogg Evo vs. Autoism 3 vs. Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Back To Rock III:
I shall go for Autoism, get under it, squeeze and pit as soon as is reasonably practical. I shall then go for one of the other two and do much the same thing, precisely which one depending on any teamups offered and/or whoever happens to be conveniently nearby :proud:
Supreme vs. Gabriel IV vs. Cobalt vs. Talisman:
Id like to team up with Supreme here, largely because it can go for Talisman and wreck it while I go for Cobalt, try and get under the sides and get it up on the flipper, and try and send it waaaay out of the arena...in theory. :P
How does that sound, Dan?
Good luck to everyone, this looks like its going to be very good on the strength of the last one :)
-
Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
WOOT! Up is the draw...and ready I am for battle!
Nidhogg Evo vs Autoism 3.0 vs Spin Dash Unleashed (3) vs Back to Rock III
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! This is BAD! Autoism is against 3 highly sucessful robots, which have won countless fights, and Ive fought 4 and lost 3...so Im stuffed anyway.
Team-up with Back To Rock and try and take out Nidhogg first, before he takes out me, because he can get past my Hardox exo-skeleton and get through the ABC armour. Just grab him and lift him - Ive got enough power to do that. Then go for SDU, with the claws set along the ground like Big Nipper (flat along the ground) and hit the blade, stop it, then pit it...or help Back To Rock if Martijns in trouble.
Mega Masher 2 vs The Zodiac vs Hot Sauce vs Binary Hell
This is pretty obvious for me in all fairness - The Zodiac to rip things to bits, and Hot Sauce to prove to be a saucey contender, and move into round two.
Supreme vs Gabriel IV: Enjoy the Violence (2) vs Cobalt vs Talisman
Again - quite obvious: Gabriel and Supreme to go through.
The May Tracks Has You vs Wedga Triton vs Neo-Mecha vs Pure Evil: Back to Basics
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! :proud: This is a good fight! Everyone except Neo-Mecha (sorry) stands a chance of going through no issue. Im going to go for Wedga and May Tracks to advance.
Sheer Heart Attack 2 (1) vs Death Sentence vs Traffic Warden vs Roo 2
Death Sentence shall get the death sentence :proud:, and Roo shall shockingly kill the champ by breaking the tracks.
Dendroaspis vs Tira V vs Black Panther vs Holepunch 2.0
Black Panther is an arse to get under, or hit with a verticle blade...so forward goes BP deffo - not sure about the other.
Visioned vs Dantu vs Monolith vs Leprosy Infection (4)
Visioned to pit Dantu and Leprosy to MURDER Monolith (True it has 10mm Hardox armour, but how strong are those bolts, and what about shock-proofing) GO CHEZZA AND CHRIS!! :proud:
Hypertension MK3 vs Eternia vs Drilla Killa VII vs Nitro-Gene 5.0
Now THIS IS A FIGHT!! Drilla Killa Ive beaten before, with a different model, but Ive still beaten him, so do what I did again - flip him OOTA! But first, get revenge on Eternia for VFT. Although I lost, I got in a large amount of first attacks, and this time, with an arena with OOTA oppotunities, I should get Leo out. Team-up with Matty for this and take out the others (Hypertension is a fantastic robot, and I would like to team-up with it)
Good luck everyone whos competing, and good luck Lewis fo writing a great comp :proud:
-
Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
No offence, but why the heck is (ALMOST) everyone hating my vapours?
Regardless, tactics are to:
Death Sentence: Team up with Roo 2 and shred the crap out of Traffic Warden.
Neo Mecha: Prepare my will, and team up with Pure Evil.
-
Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
The May Tracks Has You vs. Wedga Triton vs. Neo-Mecha vs. Pure Evil: Back to Basics
Pure Evil will be my first target, just for the fact that it is unskirted. I should get the wedge under the 7mm side clearance quite nicely and send it flying. As Pure Evil€™s flipper runs on Nitrogen, it should start to lose power after a few self-righting attempts. Next up I guess I€™ll go for May Tracks. Neo-Mecha actually looks pretty good so I€™ll avoid that if I can. Maybe I could team up with Sam? You could work on taking out the skirts and then I€™ll come in with the flipper. I€™ll also fit Wedga Triton€™s own skirts for this battle.
Visioned vs. Dantu vs. Monolith vs. Leprosy Infection
Two spinners, eh? :)
I propose a team up with Chezza to take them both out. My tactics are to quite simply box rush relentlessly. Use continuous pressure to slam them into whatever is closest. Keep the speed of the spinning weapons down by ramming into them with the front wedge. I should be able to out-push both Dantu and Leprosy Infection quite easily. Basically, just put them in the pit.
quote:
True it has 10mm Hardox armour, but how strong are those bolts, and what about shock-proofing
*sighs* There are no bolts, Paul. Monolith has a monocoque. And why would I need shock-proofing? Monolith does not have a spinning weapon, last time I checked.
My predictions for the other battle winners in bold:
Nidhogg Evo vs. Autoism 3.0 vs. Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Back to Rock III
Mega Masher 2 vs. The Zodiac vs. Hot Sauce vs. Binary Hell
Supreme vs. G4briel: Enjoy the Violence vs. Cobalt vs. Talisman
Sheer Heart Attack 2 vs. Death Sentence vs. Traffic Warden vs. Roo 2
Dendroaspis vs. Tira V vs. Black Panther vs. Holepunch 2.0
Hypertension MK3 vs. Eternia vs. Drilla Killa VII vs. Nitro-Gene 5.0
Dendroaspis/Tira/Black Panther/Holepunch should be good, I€™m looking forward to that one. Good luck Lewis, this looks like a great little tournament.
-
Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
Right! Predictions and awesome tactics coming up :proud:
Nidhogg Evo vs Autoism 3.0 vs Spin Dash Unleashed (3) vs Back to Rock III
I dont see Paul having an easy time here, and I think its safe to say that HES going to get teamed up on. :proud: After that, one of the saws will go. :proud:
Mega Masher 2 vs The Zodiac vs Hot Sauce vs Binary Hell
Go after Mega Masher 2 and keep hitting the Hardox, should be able to rip something off it and immobilize it. Then go after the number bot (Binary Hell) and tear into it too...aiming to hit the sides or corners or skirting on either opponent to get that nice panel tearing effect.
Will let Hot Sauce do his thing, will save me having to fight so much.
Supreme vs Gabriel IV: Enjoy the Violence (2) vs Cobalt vs Talisman
G4briel through...Talisman out...possibly Supreme to follow Talisman.
The May Tracks Has You vs Wedga Triton vs Neo-Mecha vs Pure Evil: Back to Basics
I have no idea. :proud:
Sheer Heart Attack 2 (1) vs Death Sentence vs Traffic Warden vs Roo 2
Martijn and Steve, methinks. Traffic Warden could be better with a few improvements to the weapon, but meh. :P
Dendroaspis vs Tira V vs Black Panther vs Holepunch 2.0
Oh dear. Care for a team-up, Alex? Both of us go after Holepunch and try and take it out first, because that beak looks positively nasty and I dont think either of us would want to take it on later. :proud: You flip it, I smash its aluminium baseplate off and after that some internals. :proud: Dendroaspis doesnt look all that threatening compared to Holepunch, so after weve disposed of Holepunch, open the pit and try and get Richards bot down. Good? :)
Visioned vs Dantu vs Monolith vs Leprosy Infection (4)
Paul, have you gone loopy? Monolith has a monocoque, not separate armour. NO BOLTS. :lame: Meh. I actually think Dantu and Leprosy can get this one if they team-up, and keep hitting the other pair towards the pit.
Hypertension MK3 vs Eternia vs Drilla Killa VII vs Nitro-Gene 5.0
Hypertension and Eternia, I think.
Lookin good Lewis. :proud:
-
Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0
AJ, your team up is accepted.
My tactics are the following.
Neo Mecha: NEVER go near the front of Pure Evil or May Tracks, and I mean NEVER. Go STRAIGHT for the back, and also, AVOID THE PIT LIKE THE PLAGUE, and never allow ANY chances to attack, and just let Wedga flip it around. If Pure Evil gets underneath, DRIVE OFF IMMEDIATELY! For May Tracks, Do whatever Tornado did to Chaos 2 in Extreme 1. Get under it using the rear wedge, and push it EVERYWHERE! If Pure Evil DARES to interfere, do the same to him as well.
Death Sentence: Not much I can do here, maybe team up with Matty or Martijn and remove some armour off of Traffic Warden.
Above all, do all things to the best of my ability, and dont take it personally when I lose.
Good luck, you lot.

MEGA MASHERS TACTICS
Wow, it appears EVERYONE seems to have something against him. Im honoured. :lame:
In all seriousness, go for Binary Hell. Push it around and use the disc where appropriate. As for the other two, use resilience. The same kind the original version used against SOR X.
LEPROSYS TACTICS
Ok, first of all, how does a monocoque even work? Second of all, who says Im going to use the drum to smash? It does have two functions.
Ill post more nearer the time.
