Well I happened to find some very old pictures the other day while clearing out, and I thought that as people complain about the stats of now a days, I would demonstrate that I myself wasnt any better.

Our first real robot had to go on a crash diet too, with the robot weighing in at 98kg without a single millimetre of armour on at the Robotwars workshop.
It was hardly surprising though for we had 4 weapons mounted at the time.
I dont even want to talk about the now-retired Dino-Saw, my first vapourbot. The idea of a crushing jaw and flywheel sounded like a good combination, but because of the (lousy now I think back) rules, it was forced to be an axlebot...and, of course, when does a crusher work on an axlebot? Then I claimed the flywheel spun at 3000 Revs per Second (In my defence, it WAS called Fantasy Robot Wars. In other words, not real).
The second version, which was allowed an invertible chassis, was much improved and slightly more successful.

Not really an axlebot though. Admitidly, it was due to complete incompitance on the writers part (he seemed to think Crushing Jaw meant Razer, when it clearly means something like on Crushtacean or Draven).

What is an axlebot?
A robot which is primarily made up of only wheels and weapons, everything being mounted across the axle instead of in the chassis. Usually most of the electronics are within the wheels.
Stinger is the archetypal example, but stuff like wheely big cheese also counts.
Another prime example is The Master from the US.
Just my personal opinion, but I wouldnt count WBC. I consider an axlebot to be a machine in which most of its components revolve around a main axle with the axle remaining stationary while the wheels drive themselves around it - in most cases all its drive components, batteries, controllers etc are contained in the wheels, with the axle connecting the wheels. Weapons then attach either modularly to the axle (like The Master) or are fixed to the axle (like Stingers arm) and rely on the braking force and rapid direction reversal to swing the weapon over to cause damage.
Leo, for a closer-to-home example, I consider DeBiel to be an axlebot. Its components arent contained in its wheels but they rotate around the shaft that runs the width of the robot. The axe weapon is connected to the shaft and the reversing motion of the drive swings it over much in the same way as Stinger does
To me Wheely Big Cheese has a chassis (the small box at the back) with the motors going into gearboxes and driving the wheels attached to separate output shafts, which is bascially the same principle as most other robots
WBC is a borderline case, Id argue that as the weapon operates about the axle (flipping itself over when used) it can still qualify, there is nothing to say that the power has to be within the wheels. I believe there was a robot which was drum staped with bicycle wheels on the outside that I would consider an axlebot for example (wheelasaurus or something?)
I seemed to focus on the power-in-the-wheels more in my last post so I do agree with you Alex in the sense that components and power dont have to be contained in the wheels for it to qualify as an axlebot.
Saint Hammer is a recent and currently active robot that I would consider an axlebot (using the momentum to swing its pick-axe back and forward) but also doesnt have much in its wheels, as they are only about 10cm wide :)
I think it was Wheeliwacko that had the bicycle wheels and drum shape. Then of course theres also Atilla the Drum, and Wheelosaurus was sort of axlebot-y - it was the one with the old Victorian pram wheels from the earlier series of RW.
I can see how WBC works as an axlebot but I still wouldnt classify it as one, but like I said that just down to my personal opinion. As long as Leos got an idea of axlebots now though, thats what matters :)

The first vapourbot I made was no better than Tims Fairground Killride. It made its debut about 6 years ago defeating Psychosprout in the Steven Superstar Tournament. I present to you... Ripper!

At least your weapons are clear, unlike Timmys gyroscopic thingie which is powered by 6 motors!
Got an original copy of my first vapourbot Disctruction (circa 2002) on this computer somewhere...
Twas a 200kg monster, walker with a 50kg vert flywheel powered by modified starter motors, running on around 120 x 5000mAh NiCds... Drives were Magmotors IIRC. Had a rear hinge flipper powered by the kinetic energy from the flywheel too.
Even have a crappy rhino render :proud: Ill post it when I find where it is in my 2+TB of hard disk :proud:
The original Wedginator had a huge flipper and two vertical discs at the back. It had aluminium armour as well.
And yeah, this was way back in the RW Forums in 2002 :P
