The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Well Ive been considering this for a little while now, so here it is.
Right now all I need are characters, one each and in theory Ill accept as many as are entered but I may pick and choose a little as to who is in the starting roster and then introduce others later depending on whim.
The only other thing is that I *might* manipulate this more by dealing with different players behind the scenes to make a better game, though of course if you tell each other then it wont work and things will be more boring.
Anyway a character entrant is as follows:
Name
Gender
Species Whatever you want as long as it is a maximum of 10ft tall. Doesnt have to be humanoid, can be your own creation or whatever. Obviously will need a description if not.
Physical description What your character looks like.
Clothing Whatever you want, though expect bulky armour to have a realistic effect on yor ability to move etc.
Equipment You may start with five items, one of which should probably be (but doesnt have to be) a weapon. Ammunition is counted with projectiles and anything dues ex machina will make me be unfair to you once we are in the story.
Abilities You may pick three abilities for your character to have, it can be anything - weapon skill, magic powers, super powers, technological prowess, psychic powers, or whatever. The only thing is dont put measures on it because Ill be interpretting those as well. Again, attempts at dues ex machina will result in me punishing you for it ingame.
Thisll start when I feel ready to start it and go wherever the whim takes me.... enjoy
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
I want to enter what will inevitably become a paragon of w00tiness :proud: but since I go away on Sunday its not really viable right now...
What are the chances of it still being going in September? I might be able to get involved then.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Who knows, itll be going as long as people keep enough itnerest to keep me interested or I manage to bring the story to a conclusion.
On a side note, I wont force the party to stick together or follow the option tree approach - you are perfectly able to attempt to kill one another. Its all going to be made up on the fly beyond a few ideas which I may or may not use. Im also intending to have overt dialogue minimized just to get a better flow to the story.
Players will also be encouraged to give their updates to me in private to further their own ends.
Expect at least three familiar faces.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Reserve me a spot :proud:

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Much as it would be amusing if he hit people with a (presumably dead?) samurai I presume you mean a samurai sword (katana?). If you want to keep it as just a samurai though thats fine, its more fun, lol.
Seems good though, the tree of life will do its job but probably not in quite the way you were thinking of. The seeing through solid objects is perhaps a little strong, but if you wanted to have something like it cant see through metal, requires great concentration to use OR can only see movement rather than detail then that would be perfectly fine, or if youve got any other ideas thats fine, but permenant x-ray vision would make it hard for anything to be a surprise.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
i am getting these stats form a game i play on the xbox. enhanced vision is only used for about 5 seconds so its not permenant just used when needed. it can only see moving objects i.e. the enemy. yes a Katana :). tree of life on the game is planted and stays there, so you cant take it with you. takes a while before you can plant another. and it has limited life span.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Since Alex has clearly put restrictions on entering myself in this, Ill reserve a spot while I invent a character :P
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Awww... I was looking forward to writing someone using a samurai corpse as cudgel lol. But my idea for this tree of life definatly stays where its planted. But thats fine, you are in.
Frank: You can always tone it down a little to be balanced, for example, not knowing what will come out of the pockets and limiting to what would actually fit through an opening that size.
Leo: Looks good, you are in.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
I was reffering to plot holes
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Name: No official name, although generally referred to as either Giant Catfish or The Sucker
Gender: Male, although it doesnt make that much difference
Species: Plecostomus gigantensis sapiens, basically a giant (three metres long) suckermouth catfish with a brain capacity about one and a half times that of an intelligent human, very heavily armoured skin, and the ability to breathe air as well as extract oxygen from water. This is offset by the fact that he requires a small amount of moisture to survive, and his mobility on land is somewhat restricted.
Physical description: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/71/Plecostomus_700.jpg/275px-Plecostomus_700.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...us_700.jpg/275 px-Plecostomus_700.jpg only bigger
Clothing: None as such, but does have a sort of neck pouch (if fish can have necks) which gives him some carrying capacity.
Equipment: An eight foot long wooden pole, two sets of underwater breathing apparatus, a petrol powered 35cc strimmer and a set of bound hardback volumes of Marcel Prousts € la recherche du temps perdu.
Abilities: Has psychic powers including strong telepathy, which is his main method of communicating with other beings. Can clamp on to and suck on things with an immense amount of force, and has an innate immunity to electric shocks.
Any problems?

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Looks fine, though it may need help to get up stairs if there are any lol
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Ready, with a little help from Alex:
NAME: Professor Reginald Fortescue Vengeance
GENDER: Male
SPECIES: British. Um, human
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 5ft 4, skinny figure, short brown hair, green eyes, pale complexion with occasional spots
CLOTHING: Black tuxedo with matching shoes, bulletproof top hat and high-collared cape. Oh and a bulletproof vest, just in case.
EQUIPMENT: A walking cane with a green gemstone atop, containing multiple weaponry like a giant Swiss Army knife. Screw the gemstone and a different weapon pops out. Was originally powered by a Chaos Emerald until a run-in with a disgruntled echidna. As such, the cane is now powered by a MarkMotor within the gemstone running at 36v and conceals a boatload of weaponry: a sword, helicoptor blades, a flamethrower, a laser rifle, a laser cutter, a feather duster (Dont ask), you name it, its got it. In case the cane backfires, the Prof also carries several small tools in his pockets to aid in tinkering.
ABILITIES: The Prof has the intellect of a criminal mastermind and is a technological genius, able to turn even random junk into a Doomsday Device of some sort; rather like the Anti-McGuyver. The Prof also happens to be a bit of a wimp. His jumpiness, however, gives him excellent reflexes and makes him rather tricky to catch. He is also a stickler for punctuality and prides himself on being witty.
On a side note, the Prof also has a particular hatred of magical beings, a mixture of prejudice and petty jealousy.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Full Name: Tarein Medeiros
Gender: Female
Species: Homo sapien. Hispanic background.
Description: Small-medium build, black neck length hair with a fringe, has a bit of a tan, olive-coloured eyes. Has a good-natured personally (which mirrors her expression), and she will defend any friends if provoked, but she wont take sh33t from anyone. :proud:
Clothing: Green huntress shirt with matching light shoulder pads, beige jeans (look more like painters pants though, and theyre tight), green boots with opening frills. Has wrist braces with elongated claws that resemble a hawks talons. Wears a green belt where she has most of her equipment. Also wears a green headband.
Equipment: A dagger passed down from her father, with a ruby-encrusted hilt; some rope; food; drink; and a platinum pendant that fills the bearer with vigour.
Abilities: Very fast and agile; light-footed, can land cat-like from several meters above and not make a sound, nor suffer any injury. She is relatively intelligent and mildly-moderately powerful in terms of strength and mind, and has a resounding spiritual energy.
Incidentally, I have created this character on a game and am just waiting to hook the camera up to the computer to upload them so you can see if you will allow it. :P
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Heck, Ill go with my retro powers:
Full name: Frank Goacher
Gender: Male, although the people who send him junk e-mail seem to think hes female as they often send him ways to increase his breast size. That or they think hed look sexy with huge man-boobs.
Description - Exactly 5 foot 5-ish, medium build. Short brown hair, blue eyes. Loves puns.
Clothing - The first stuff he grabs out of the wardrobe, usually casual trousers and a shirt of some description.
Equipment - The trousers. The pockets provide an assortment of weaponry that cant possibly fit in there. I suspect theyre made with Time Lord technology. The one downside is that in a hurry its hard to get the exact weapon needed. A quick grab is as likely to pull out a shotgun as it is a surprised goldfish.
Abilities - Can morph into an alter ego made of electricity.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd

Abilities: Technological and Mechanical Prowess, Agility/reflexes, Intellect, Endurance and wikked sense of humor.
Baron Knightrous Von Oxide, an explosive experience like no other...
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
So far we have:
Brutus Beefcake (Shane)
Dirge (Leo)
The Sucker (Joey)
Professor Vengeance (Steve)
Tarein Medeiros (Kody)
Frank (Frank)
Baron Knightrous Von Oxide (Aaron)
Well I think the deadline for the initial roster is now whenever Martijn gets his entry in. Anyone who enters after him can be integrated later.
This is a better turnout than last time already.
Oh and as I never claimed to make this fair, all existing entries are now locked, and I advise any entries from now on in to have some means of keeping people warm that only they can do (ie so the others cant pry it from your very cold, dead fingers)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
I dont need warmth, Im cold anyway.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
I dont think Brutus, Dirge or Frank need to worry about the cold, and the Prof and the Baron certainly have means of firestarting, so it wont be too much of an issue while you are all staying put, of course, if you were forces to move.
Note to Joey: Id be nice to Shane and try to persuade him to carry the Sucker in an emergency.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
The Sucker is a giant fish - its mass is large enough that a change in temperature wouldnt affect it for some time, and the thick skin wouldnt lend itself to heat conduction very well. Extended cold periods might be a problem though.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
This will definatly come under extended period of cold...
Now just remember to suck up to Shane (sorry, I can never resist puns...)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
*makes a mental note to create a slightly less insane character next time*
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Brutus could use the fish to slap people who annoy him
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
expect my entry later tonight, sorry for lateness :P

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
w00t
Name: Perry
Gender: Male
Species: An average sized metapenguin, intelligent enough to speak and use tools with its wings, as well as fly better than most penguins do (though not as good as your average eagle). Can even withstand heat thanks to enhanced skin features.
Physical description: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/be/Pygoscelis_papua.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...elis_papua.jpg
Clothing: A black vest and top hat
Equipment: A dandy stick that just happens to be very very hard and very dangerous in the wrong hands€¦ I mean wings (about 75% of the height of my penguin). A loaded AK-47 under my top hat, a pocket filled with smoke granades in my vest as well as a harpoon. I also own a Porsche 911.
Abilities: Cold control like only Antarcicans can have; can create ice and€¦ freeze things. Above all I€™m very well-mannered and a real dandy.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Ah, what excellent timing, Martijn :proud:. Heres two pics of my character, Tarein:

-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
By the way, ignore the horrible angle on the first pic: shes 5 foot 5, not 4 foot 5 (which is what the pic makes her look like) :P
(for Martijns information, 55 = 162cm :P)

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
+1>The Oddestsey II
Chapter 1
The eight wake with the feeling of a cold wind against their faces. Their eyes open to find themselves somewhere utterly different to the places they where moments before. A troll, a dead-man, a fish, a pair of villains, a Baron, a warrior woman and a penguin€¦ their eyes hurt by the harsh light of the sun beginning to set behind the mountains. They look to their surroundings - eight standing stones in a circle around them, while beneath them is an intricately carved slab of granite, the symbols long eroded into illegibility by the ages.
Their surroundings however are more worrying, they find themselves on the side of a hill, looking out across a broad valley, beneath them is a broad slow river than appears frozen solid. The slope of the hill around them is thick with trees - a mixture of conifers and the leafless skeletons of oak, ash and birch. More odd though, the entire landscape, excepting this small ring of stone they stand in is coated with thick snow - going up to a foot thick from the looks of it . The whole vast forest has a eerie silence to it - there is virtually no noise save the creaking of the boughs beneath the heavy snow, and off in the distance the sound of a small solitary bird chirping.
Although there is no obvious path from the site two particular directions seem most likely, either down the hill to the river, where it looks like there is some small wooden building, or up the hill behind them and over the ridge - where a thick column of smoke seems to be rising from.
There is something very unsettling about the woods, despite being in a clearing now you have been here a few minutes you can€™t shake off the feeling you are being watched from the woods. Nothing overt but each of those present keeps feeling as if they catch movement in the corner of their eye, or the sound of crunching snow amongst the trees from behind them, only to turn to find nothing there. As the light slips away this feeling of foreboding increases; you have perhaps an hour before sunset. Within the stone circle there is plenty of unexpectedly dry brushwood, and the position should be quite defensible, you could also head across the hillside through the forest, but there is no clear destination in either case.

TIP TIME
Ill give hints out in the early stages of the story when its something new youll encounter thatll need explaining, the other big one is conversation, but we arent there yet...
Now just to give you some rules while you make your first choices - Im not going to write any of your dialogue if I can possibly help it - I dont want to put words into your mouth. Also you are welcome to make separate choices, although right now I really wouldnt recommend going on your own.
Having said that, there is no right choice and Im going to develop the story organically as it goes along. Bear in mind that you can die or be injured if thats likely what would happen in the circumstance.
Roleplaying for you what happens next would be good but is by no means required, bear in mind that the only two characters who have met before are Frank and the Prof, so dont go being automatically chummy with everyone - for one thing conflict is more interesting.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Tarein will wait within the ring of stones.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
The Sucker: (I shall take the opportunity to get to know people, in case they find the idea of going on an adventure when a disembodied voice of a fish is talking in their heads worrying, and reassure them that I am for the most part harmless to those I do not see as enemies, and right now none of these people/things are.)
(I shall also reassure the narrator that my telepathic broadcasts to the other characters are in between brackets, like this.)
(As for what to do, seeing as the river is frozen and the sun is setting, I vote that we remain inside, or near the ring of stones for the night)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Extra tips
Oh I forgot to mention - you can always do things I havent suggested, if they are possible of course. That includes asking to look more closely at anything I mentioned in the chapter summaries or for that matter inside, behind underneath ro whatever assuming its possible.
Also try to explain in what manner you will do something, are you going to just sit there chatting or prepare the stone circle in any way for the night?
Also time ingames does NOT equate to real world time, Ill try to update at least daily, real world permitting.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
(Now you say that :proud:, how long would it take us all to get to the ridge or the river?)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Further Information
You are unable to tell exactly how long it would take, and it varies greatly between party members. As going uphill you could reach the ridge (which is nearer than the river) in about an hour, much quicker for those who can fly (Prof, Frank, Perry) or Brutus due to his size and strength.
Downhill you could make in abotu 45 minutes, although for Perry only a few minutes as he can go down on the snow on his stomach, and again Frank and Prof who can fly would not take much longer. Remember though for most (particularly Dirge, Sucker, Tarein and the Baron) the thick snow is going to slow you considerably unless you devise a means of getting through it or going over it.
It will however be also darker quicker down the hill due to shadows cast by mountains on the other side of the valley.
Vengeance should remember that his flight is considerably less stable that Franks or Perrys.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Dirge looks at Cerberus.
What is it boy? You smell something too?
Dirge looks around.
Who opened the gate at the zoo here? Penguin, starfish, and not a sushi bar in sight.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Okay, descriptivenessnessnessness...
Tarein will casually seat herself within the circle of stones, and open herself to any friendly conversation. She wont tell that much about herself if anybody asks, just enough for their peace. She will listen to what the others have to say, but will steer clear if they are feeling rather malicious...
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
(*insert general friendly conversation with Tarein here*)
(Dirge, just so you know Im not actually from the zoo...before I ended up here I lived in Canterbury)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
(Dirge is not a real peoples person, or animal person for that matter, he just wants to know whats going on.)
