The FRA Room 101
You may have seen the BBC 2 television series Room 101, hosted orginally by Nick Hancock, and then by Paul Merton, as 87 guest appeared on it discussing their least favourite things ever.
What Im asking is for at least 9 people to pick at the most 12 things and the least 7.
They can range to every medium, such as:
Television Programs
Books
Films
People
Countries
Animals
and many more.
Tell me who/want youve chosen, and then post a paragraph 500 words in length about it. If youve argued your case well enough, itll go in, if you dont argue it well enough, itll stay out. As extras, if you get more than 5 in if you pick 12 and 3 if you pick 7, I will give you a bonus choice from the ones Ive rejected to go in, and if you get them all in, then you can give an item immunity from the room.
So sign up, and get ready to rant! :proud:

The FRA Room 101
500 words may be a bit much, methinks...good idea though, consider me interested.
-
The FRA Room 101
Im signing up, but I need a lil time to get some good rants going.
-
The FRA Room 101
Given that I have Joey and Frank already signed-up, Ill start with Joey and and then go for Frank whislt I wait for other people to sign-up - I need 7 more.
Frank, for this time, just pick a number of things between 12 or 7 items.
Im now reducing the argument to a maximum of 350 words and minimum of 300.
But first up we have our first guest - please welcome, writer, vapourboteer and finallist in E.O.T.R 4 with his team of vapourbots, its...
JOEY McCONNELL!
First up though, I need to ask Joey how many things hes picked and how long it took him to pick them.
-
The FRA Room 101
I have picked seven things, and it took me about ten minutes, although I left a reserve space in case I thought of something else. :proud: I would have chosen more, but I didnt think I could write a coherent argument about them without ranting.
Do we have to say what our things are now, or does that come as we argue for them?
-
The FRA Room 101
You state youjr items in order of which you chose them. You state each one when I say something like your first choice is... or something like that. After youve sent in the name of your item, Ill then ask you why you hate it, and then Ill decide if its a good enough argument to be consigned into Room 101.
So Joey - your first choice is...
-
The FRA Room 101
My first choice is Kuwait, and I am fully aware of the reality-warping possibilities should it be accepted into the room. :proud:
(am typing this from school, so youll probably have to wait till this evening for my actual argument)
-
The FRA Room 101
Can I ask WHY youre at school...on a Sunday...on the Easter break?
And can I also ask why you dislike the country of Kuwait?
-
The FRA Room 101
The weekend and calendar are totally different over here, its confusing :P and many reasons, Ill get into that when I post my rant...uh, argument.
-
The FRA Room 101
-
The FRA Room 101
If Joey is reading this, can I ask for his argument about Kuwait. I just need to point out that Ive never been to to Kuwait, and Ive never heard of it until now.
-
The FRA Room 101
Itll have to be tomorrow, sorry - I actually forgot about this and writing in general tonight _
If I start to hold up the show or anything, feel free to have somebody else go before me, if theyre ready.
-
The FRA Room 101
If youre on the forum today Joey, please send in your argument f0r Kuwait.
But can I ask why you chose Kuwait - it states in your profile that at the moment you live there.
And actually, given I may not know the majority of the things you chose (and I ask this all future people who sign-up) to give a list of the things youve chosen so I can find out more about them.
-
The FRA Room 101
I chose it because it is a country of extreme incomprehensibleness and bizarreness...and I can vouch for that having lived here for four years :P Every time I come over here it takes my body a week to adjust to the time difference, normally by several insomniac nights staring at the computer screen. There is nothing to do here, at all, outside of school, shopping and being on the internet all day, and I dislike shopping, which goes some way to explaining why I am so incurably sad :proud: The shopping areas mostly contain clothes shops and fast food places, and I avoid the former and sometimes like to order the latter according to how good their fries are. School is...well, school, you can imagine how it is.
The people over here drive like absolute maniacs, they have (AFAIK) about the same number of people dying each year from traffic accidents as in the UK, however since Kuwait only has 2.something million people it works out as a lot more. Theres flagrant disregard for other road users, frequent crashes, annoying teenagers yelling at people from the cars and during elections the candidates posters reduce road visibility to about ten inches, its that bad. The chocolate here sucks (I think they have to put something in it to stop it from melting), the heat combined with the air conditionings odd opinions on what kind of uncomfortable temperature you would like to suffer at makes you rather annoyed and sticky after a while, and although there are good aspects about it (a few of the people are nice, and at least the weather is reliable), I think it should be cast into Room 102, and then have a hole drilled in the wall for it to move to Room 101. :proud:
I have no idea if thats around 300 words or not, but it should do...my other things are, in no particular order:
Hamburgers
A level Chemistry
Gangsta rap
Disney princess films
Desserts in inflight food trays
Small children
-
The FRA Room 101
No Joey - thats an extremely good argument. In the real Room 101, its unlikely for the first item you pick to go in, but Kuwait sounds an extreme good choice.
ITS GOING IN!
1 down, 6 to go for Joey.
His next choice is food substance, a food substance loved by the majority of the nation, but hated by him. And by me.
Hamburgers
Id first like to tell Joey that I hate Hamburgers as well. But lets here your arguement.
-
The FRA Room 101
Right...
I honestly cannot understand why hamburgers are so popular. Granted, Im a bit of a picky eater, and the idea of eating something full of lots of different squirmy things, some of which I have no idea what they are, doesnt exactly appeal to me, but it does seem that somebody came up with the least healthy thing ever and then attempted to rectify that by overloading it with green stuff. I dislike mayonnaise, tomatoes, cucumbers, and just about everything that they do put on it, and even with those taken out it just tastes bland, and seems like a waste of money.
*goes into SUPER-TV-INFORMERCIAL-MAN mode* I do not like trimmings, I do not like unnecessary sauce, I do not like being fed gristly meat, and I do not like to buy hamburgers when I could just go to KFC and get a better meal for less money.
Therefore, it should go in :proud: (I know its not that good of an argument, but this was my space-filler topic :P)
-
The FRA Room 101
It IS much of an argument, my problem with Hamburgers as well as the sauce, and it was a complete waste of food. So no doubt what happens...
ITS GOING IN!
Very good Joey - 2 out of 2.
Your next choice is part of a compulsery GCSE grade in order to make in life. Some have made it far with this piece of info, but your hated subject is...
A Level Chemistry
(Message edited by paulc on April 07, 2008)

The FRA Room 101
A level chemistry...riiiight. Due to my school thinking the rate at which you are supposed to take the exams is too slow, I have already experienced the joys of this in year 11, and despite doing very well in GCSE chemistry I failed miserably, largely down to my crazy teacher who somehow felt compelled to avoid teaching us what was in the book, so we cold look back at it for reference, and rather teach something else that nobody except him understood and may not have even been related to the topic. The subject itself is also incredibly confusing, as my textbooks and the exam syllabus were saying completely different things about the same topic, while my teachers Notes Of All-Consuming Goodness were indecipherable, as hed handwritten them, and contradicted the exam requirements...it also seems that trying to cram a year long course into six months is not a good idea since the bits that help you to understand it are the ones that get missed, and half the people in my class were hiring tutors just to try and get a passing grade...all of which combined compels me to save the lives of schoolpeople nationwide and deposit the dreaded subject in the room. :proud:
-
The FRA Room 101
Well...Joey - I afriad I quite enjoy Chemistry lessons, mostly becuase I have a good teacher called Mr. Plowman who often makes lessons cool and lets us do experiments. However, me and my sister have the same teacher for Biology called Miss Craig, and she is useless:
Shell give us homework to finish in our books then take in our books and give us detentions because we couldnt complete our homework.
Shell give you the answers to questions and they turn out to be wrong.
And she also makes the lessons quite dull. For these reasons Joey - A Level Chemistry cant go in.
Sorry.
Next up in a musical genre which has been assossiated with homophobia, violence, profanity, promiscuity, misogyny, gang rapes, drive-by shootings, vandalism, thievery, drug use, racism, and materialism. Its to me and you its a hateful thing.
Gangsta Rap
-
The FRA Room 101
now Ill be watching the next one with interest. :)
-
The FRA Room 101
Actually, to allow time for people to sign-up to rant and rave, after Joeys choices, Ill do one. So if anyone would like to volenteer to be guest-host for my turn.
-
The FRA Room 101
Ill be ranting about 7 things.
-
The FRA Room 101
Can I ask what these things are Frank?
And Joey, can I please recieve your argument on Gangsta Rap?
-
The FRA Room 101
i will rant about paul being impatient.
-
The FRA Room 101
Wait your turn Shane - dont be so impatient
-
The FRA Room 101
-
The FRA Room 101
Can I now PUSH Joey for your argument on Gangsta Rap?
-
The FRA Room 101
...can I possibly get somebody else to go before me? Im sorry, I know this messes things up but Ive lacked the motivation for serious writing lately.
-
The FRA Room 101
i will also rant about some people and their lack of motivation
-
The FRA Room 101

PLEASE! Joey - if you can write your argument for Gangsta Rap, or if someone can be guest-host for me whilst I have my go, then I start this up again!
My own phobia of Sharks
-
The FRA Room 101
I can give a go at guest hosting, but due to work the hours where Im actually awake are kinda odd.
-
The FRA Room 101
Id think Ill give my own intro and argument for Darkness in order to get this moving.
If you were asked in consign your most hated items ever to a place where you would never see them again, what would you chose? The guest on this time has chosen his 12 most hated items in the universe to consign to that box.
Please welcome the E.O.T.R writer...
PAUL CUOMO!!
I may point out that it took me AGES to chose these items, as I had a list of 45. I hate loads.
But first first decision is something that leaves us midday, but returns in the evening...
Darkness
My main reason for nominating Darkness is that I often have those moments when youre a small boy/girl, and you get the notion of monster in your wardrobe that come out at night. I get those a few times, so I sleep at night with my light on out of irrational fear. And there are two other reasons why Im scared of the dark. In my English class when we were learning about suspense writing, and showed us an 18 rated film called Scream which is completely at in the dark and scared me senseless. The other reason is that Id been scared witless by the thought of mosquitos biting you in your sleep, and I woke up one night to here what turned out to be a wasp in my bedroom, but that night the lights were out becuase of a power cut, and the buzzing got louder and louder, and then it landed right on my forehead. I leaped out of bed, left my bedroom and locked the doors. Its traumatised me since, and youd do me a great discomfort for not sticking it in.
By the way Frank, youre the guest-host, so its your say on if it goes in or not.
-
The FRA Room 101
I thought Scream was quite funny :P
-
The FRA Room 101
Im amazed no one has had a good rant about Mark Elam, theres so much to say! You could even do a timeline, e.g.
Mark decides to become an agony aunt and advises people to switch 4mm hardox to 5mm titanium in the How Can I Improve thread...
Also I think its 10 threads hes started now.
-
The FRA Room 101
Ever so sorry, but darkness is good for so many things. For example, if it were as bright as day 24/7, how would we get to sleep? Wed all have to invest in really thick curtains and those blindfolds you wear on planes. Im afraid I cant put darkness into room 101. I can however recommend that if you find Scream scary, you stay away from serious horror films...
