2 Robots. 1 Battle. 1 Winner.

Granted this is a very small tournament, but has not been made for lots of entrants and even more robots. This tournament has been started in order to help people in the forums how to structure a tournament properly, as well as writing a battle properly.

Entry Requirements

- I am looking for 2 people to enter 1 robot each.
- Wheeled robots only please, and robots can weigh anything up to 100kg.
- Active weaponry is compulsory.
- Clusterbots are not permitted.
- Post stats in any format, but they must be in one post and realistic!

Arena

- The arena in this tournament will be the Robot Wars series 7 arena.
- There will be two house robots in this tournament: Dead Metal and Matilda.
- The battle will be 3:00 minutes long, or until a robot is deemed immobile.
- A robot is deemed immobile if:
a) it stops moving altogether. :proud:
b) has been destroyed. :proud:
c) if one half of its drive has stopped working.
d) it is stuck on an arena obstacle.

- If after 3 minutes both robots are still moving, the battle will go to the judges.
- The judges will mark the battle based upon Damage, Aggression and Control.
- For each criteria there is 1 point to win. The robot who gets 2 or more points wins.

Entrants

This is where you lot come in! :proud: First 2 REALISTIC robots with full stats posted will compete!

Once I have two entrants and am happy with the stats that have been provided, the battle will be written. During the battle, I will be inserting reasons why the robots are battling in that way, using the stats as a basis. These comments will be in a different colour (or in italics, depends which is easier for me to do :proud:).

Ill enter Gabriel II...

WEIGHT: 100kgs
DIMENSIONS: 105 x 80 x 35 cm
SHAPE: Elongated triangular pyramid with steep rear and very shallow front
COLOUR: Largely yellow, with a red and yellow striped flipper and black shapes on each side. Kind of like No Objections in a Gabriel shape.
DRIVE: 2 C40-300 Magmotors driving 2 inner wheels with Vulkalon treads for grip, running off 3 NiCd packs at 24v
SPEED: 14mph average, 20mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at front due to spring hinged nose, rising to 6mm at rear
ARMOUR: 3mm aluminium baseplate, with composite 5mm titanium (5mm hardox in critical areas) and 7mm HDPE on the rest of the body.
WEAPONS: A high pressure pneumatic front hinged flipper, consisting of the front edge of the body, running from 2 2kg CO2 tanks and a 70mm hydraulic full pressure ram with high flow rate, giving 25 flips in a match and capable of flipping 100kgs easily and lifting several times more than that. Also has hardened tool steel spikes located on either side of the front point, and it can spin in place to try and do damage with these.
SRIMECH: Via weapon. The back has spikes to prevent stranding
NOTES: Components shock mounted for protection vs. spinners and impacts. The main changes from the previous Gabriel, aside from the colouring and armour, are that it is now slightly wider and quite a bit lower, giving a lower centre of gravity and making it easier to get other robots on the flipper, and the drive has been upgraded. To make room for the changes, the gas capacity has been reduced and the armour made slightly thinner.
STRENGTHS: Difficult to get a grip on due to the shape, low centre of gravity
WEAKNESSES: Awkward shape for pushing with

Tell me if theres anything wrong with the stats, Dan. I think something like this is a good idea; something of a model battle for people to see how theirs should be structured.

TURNING CIRCLE:0mm
ARMOUR: 5mm hardox
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0mm at the front, 0mm with hinged skirts at sides, 20mm at sides under the skirts and at back. (Well, technically 23cm at the very back, thanks to the inverted wedge.
MOVEMENT: 4 Wheels with Vulkanon tires and aluminium hubs powered by 4 36v LEM130s Powered by 6 NiCad battlepacks.
WEAPONS: None but the force.
SCRIMECH: Invertable.

Tactics: At 30mph, Dannys not going to have much control, and with my 2 wheel drive I should be more maneuvrable. Ill try and get around the back, get underneath and flip into the house robots or OOTA.
Failing that, go into thwackbot mode and attempt to break stuff. If he gets underneath, fire the flipper to try and jar myself free.

Estimated guess: Nidhogg

In the old VRW competition, Crimson Thunder was highly damaged by a bot with no wedge. If Nidhogg can get under Crimson Thunder, and crush into him, I say Nidhogg will win.

Mark, I entered Gabriel, not Nidhogg...

Gabriel II vs. Crimson Thunder

In the left booth, Joey McConnell watches anxiously as he drives Gabriel into the arena, narrowly dodging Matilda, who - like a typical woman driver - doesn€™t know which direction she is going in :proud:. He looks across the arena and sees Danny Bailey driving Crimson Thunder into the arena. The 30mph top speeds of CT make it the quicker in this battle, but the least controlled, a point emphasised by CT skidding towards the centre of the arena and overshooting the spotlight where it should have stopped. Danny looks embarrassed, and slowly gets CT back under control and into the spotlight. The audience cheer and whoop sarcastically, with Danny bowing to his legions of fans whilst laughing whole-heartedly. Before the fight commences, let€™s see the low down on the two heavyweight warriors in this battle.

Gabriel II is a wedge designed robot weighing in at the maximum weight for the heavyweight category: 100kgs. It is armed with a flipping fantastic flipper powered by Carbon Dioxide. The robot has a top speed of 20mph but travels around the arena at a fairly respectful 14mph. The 7mm HDPE and 5mm Ti/Hardox armouring should withstand a fair few whacks, but with only 2 wheels Gabriel can be pushed around easily, and with a limited CO2 supply on board there€™s a chance Gabriel could be stranded on its back with a one way ticket to the angels!

Crimson Thunder (CT for short to save my poor little fingers :proud:) is an eraser shaped robot - it has a front wedge and a rear inverted wedge - and has no active weaponry, relying on its sheer pushing power and speed. Its deep red paintwork should camouflage any blood shed by its opponents, and at only 25cm high it has a very low centre of gravity. However, with no active weaponry CT cannot physically cause any damage to Gabriel, and with a gaping 23cm ground clearance at the back of the robot it is basically cannon fodder for flippers. Luckily for CT he€™s not facing a fli€¦. Ooh dear! :proud:

3€¦2€¦1€¦ACTIVATE!

Immediately, CT zooms from its starting position and before Gabriel can get off the starting block the double wedged robot slams into the front of Gabriel, the latter bouncing off the impact towards the arena wall. Danny keeps the pressure on Joey by driving CT into the side of Gabriel and getting the 0mm front wedge under the ground clearance of Joey€™s flipper €˜bot. CT edges its front wedge further and further underneath Gabriel€™s side ground clearance until only one of its wheels are touching the ground. CT drives full throttle across the arena towards Dead Metal€™s CPZ, pushing Gabriel ever closer towards the deadly House robot. Joey frantically tries to gain some form of traction on the arena floor, and just before Gabriel is at the mercy of Mr. Metal, he quickly spins his flipper €˜bot off CT€™s front wedge and around the back of Danny€™s rammer. The 23cm ground clearance at the back of CT looks vulnerable now as Joey drives Gabriel underneath the blood red coloured robot and flips it into the CPZ. Danny€™s robot lands mere metres away from Dead Metal, but more importantly on the right side of the arena wall. CT drives away from Dead Metal€™s CPZ and drives nimbly over the flame pit: the 30mph top speed coming in handy. Gabriel is on the chase against the double wedged robot, but with a 10mph deficit in terms of top speed, CT can easily outrun its opponent. CT drives around Gabriel, trying to avoid that dangerous front flipper, but the 2 wheeled drive of Joey€™s robot means it can technically spin on a sixpence, keeping the flipper facing CT at all times. Danny tries a different tact and releases the pit release button. The audience cheer as they sense a titanic struggle. Gabriel once again tries to give chase, but CT€™s superior speed means that it can dodge any attack. CT quickly turns and instead of giving chase, slams head on into Gabriel. The impact sends both robots reeling backwards, Gabriel getting much more of the impact compared to its opponent. Gabriel once again gives chase, but instead of chasing CT around the arena, Joey tries luring Danny€™s machine towards the arena wall and Matilda€™s CPZ. Danny second guesses Joey€™s plan and instead moves away from Gabriel and its ferocious front flipper. The audience begin to get restless and a few of the audience members begin to boo. They wanted action, not Strictly Come Dancing! Influenced by the audience, and knowing that this battle would more than likely go to the judges, Danny drives CT towards Joey€™s robot and into the side once again. The 0mm front ground clearance slips straight under Gabriel and drives the flipping robot up onto the red front wedge. Joey attempts to gain traction on the arena floor, but this time Gabriel is slammed straight into the arena side wall at CT€™s top speed of 30mph. Gabriel is shaken by the impact, but CT wasn€™t phased in the slightest. CT goes in for another slam, but Gabriel manages to get its front wedge underneath the double wedged rammer. As CT drives further and further up the flipper of Gabriel, Joey manoeuvres his robot towards the fearsome flywheel of the Matriarch of Mayhem: our darling Tildy! Danny can only look on as Gabriel drives CT towards Matilda€™s CPZ and nearer that deadly flywheel. The impact as the flywheel hits the 5mm Hardox armouring of CT sends the double wedged robot into the air, the whole side panelling coming off and exposing the entire right hand side of CT€™s electronics. CT somersaults through the air towards the centre of the arena, as Gabriel quickly dodges Matilda€™s flywheel as she moves out of her CPZ for another hit. Danny looks worried, as CT does not seem to be moving around the arena floor as freely as before. Gabriel moves in for an attack, getting the front wedge underneath the red robot and using its front hinged CO2 flipper to flip CT across the arena floor. CT is beginning to look a little worse for wear as it attempts to drive away from the onslaught. Gabriel comes in again for another flip, this time sending CT over and over again, hurtling towards the arena side wall.

CEASE!

Cease has been called, and the arena timer shows 3:00. The battle has ended and it goes to the judges who will mark both robots on Damage, Aggression and Control.

Damage - The only damage in this battle was against CT, but not directly from Gabriel. However, the damage point goes to Gabriel.


Aggression - Both robots were very aggressive, both in different ways. The flips from Gabriel were very aggressive as were the slams from CT. The judges have decided to give the aggression point to CT based on dominance in the majority of the match.

Control - To be fair, both robots showed a fair amount of control in terms of controlling the fight, CT at the beginning and Gabriel as the fight progressed. However, only one robot was truly controlled in this fight. The control point goes to Gabriel.

The winner, 2 - 1 is Gabriel.
