hi all
with my crusher, i will need to be able to self right. i can think of two ways of doing this. either razor style or hypno disc style.
razor style being using the crusher movement to move something which would make the robot turn back over
or the hypno disc way which is motorised
what im asking for here is a bit of help with understanding each option? anyones opinions is wanted?

Razer style, thats only a wire and a few pivots.
at what points did the wire pivot at?
also i was thinking for the motorised option , i could use a bosch 35 motor directly connected to the lifter arm, would this work?

That I cant tell you directly how razers pivots and wire were positioned. But I can imagine some ways to achive such a movement.
Motorised, what is the weight of a Bosch 35?
Razers wings went out as the crusher was opening wide, that way the wings wouldnt be as vunarable when the crusher was biting down.
not really, the arms only started to open as the beak got close to fully open- he never really had to open that far to grab other machines.

Alex, are you able to supply a pic (or even a basic drawing) of what your crusher is going to look like just to make it easier to visualise each type of self-righter?
I found it an interesting task coming up with a self-righter for my crusher due to the shape of it. I bought an electric window mechanism which had a kind of swing-arm action that I was planning on mounting inside the rear half of the claw so that when the bot was on its side, the arm could turn and push it back up again. Only problem now is that it doesnt fit, plus Ive now altered the design of it a lot and it will require a new style of self-righter
And also, having a self-righting arm Hypnodisc style attached directly to a Bosch 35W might be too much strain for it, trying to turn over 13.6kg. You may need an extra stage of gearing but I cant be too sure as Ive never worked with Bosch 35s

leo - sorry, was tierd and grumpy when i posted that lol. Should of read your post better.
Alex- You might get away with the bosch idea.. but i doubt it.. it all depends on leverage.. basically how long the arm needs to be and were its pivoting the robot about.. Pictures of your proposed design would be helpful.
Cylon uses a bosch 35w motor for its lifter which also acts as the self righter (if it lands the right way). That said it uses a screw thread for the lifter as opposed to an arm which probably takes the strain off a bit. I doubt it would be particularly effective as a direct drive on an arm.

i can do some drawings, i will be doing them for saturday so i can bring them to the event, if anyone is going that could help with this?
i have already drawn an idea for the self righter, using the razor style way-ill bring that as well
if anyone posts anything i may not reply as my interent is messing around and so might be able to check
