Hydra for Sale
Hi Everyone,
Hydra is in the same format and condition as it was for RW series 7 with the CO2 flipper and Hammer/axe. Although the pneumatics have not been used for for a while, I have kept the NICADs in good condition charging and discharging occasionally and last year we went to a local fete and I made sure motors, speed controllers, wheels,
tyres, chains etc were all OK.
This is Hydras spec
4WD - 2 x Bosch 750s - chain drive to pneumatic tyres (mountainboard wheels)
3 x 36v NICAD packs using the Sanyo C cells ( battery packs cost over £500)
There is a constant current power supply which I use for charging which can give a constant current up to 6 amps up to 75 volts which has been ideal for charging the NICADs although I use a timer to switch it off to prevent overcharging.
2 x NCC 70s (+ a spare NCC70 never used) + Delbots (I think) interface)
Rams for flipper and hammer are 300mm x 63mm. (loads of fittings and valves incl a new 250 x 80 ram - never used)
Regulator is the high flow Victor model
Various fire extinguishers but they are probably out of date test by now
Body work is 6082 aluminium with grade 5 Titanium cladding
There also a few other bits such as a set of go cart wheels, hubs, bearings and tyres
I would want to keep the RC gear as I have some bits for a Featherweight which I may get round to building sometime.
I am looking for around £1000
Here is a link to photos. The component shots are when Hydra was being built and the rest were shot a couple of weeks ago

Are there any other potential problems with the pneumatics beyond the cylinders being out of date?
Does this type of thing affect the rams too?

No, only that they should be used at or below the rate pressure.

Hi Guys, the Nicad packs alone would set you back £500 plus so the price is £1000 or very close. Hydra is near Didcot so if anyone wants to come and have a look, drop me an email and we can arrange it

Hydra for Sale
Sunday this week or next, I can come round and take a look, which would be better for you ?
Note: This is not to say I am buying it, Im inspecting it, see if its worth it (which Im sure it is).
Buying Hydra would mean no trip to Las Vegas this year, since I cant afford both bank account drainers.

mate buy hydra. you wiull have a good robot to play with. its well worth a cool k

From what Ive seen of it during series 7 it is a worthwhile machine. Too bad we havent seen it on the live circuit much since.

dave can i just say something and please dont be offended. if you go and see hydra and you like it and BUY it........
i think dennis should give you a bit of a saftey lesson on owning a heavyweight robot...
you should seek some good advice from the likes of geoff thorpe or andy kane on saftey issues...
know what you are buying and realise what it can do.
you are buying a dangerous weapon, not just a robot to play with. take my advice seriously mate no-one wants to see you get hurt.

sorry i meant geoff smith not thorpe

dave me and matt have put in a offer but good look

Hmmm - I agree with what shanes said. David - you havent had the experience with your featerweight axe/pneumatics yet, and going to something as good and dangerous as Hydra could be a big mistake if your not seriously carefull. The same to Shane and Matt. Ive seen Hydra run at cosford and its good.
Who-ever ends up with the robot - just keep it in good condition. Alot of robots sold on end up ruined

Thats not really fair Grant. Most robots that are sold are not exactly new ones, they have been standing in garages all over the UK. They have not had the benefit of years of progress the most of the current live event robots had.
Obsidian came of really lucky in that aspect in the UK champs last year. Had I been drawn against Terrorhurtz or Kan-Opener there wouldnt have been a straight piece of frame left. It already broke something on the landing when Kronic flipped it out of the arena. A robot like Beast or Envy can take that kind of abuse easily. Hydra has already proven i can stay in one piece by landing on the arena barrier during series 7 without much damage.

I think your right in some respects grant.
Although It doesnt matter if it is a new or old robot, it depends on the level of love and care it is given.
Some roboteers spend time repairing, and improving their robots, and they are rewarded by consistantly winning fights, and minimise reliabilty issues at events.
Others maybe dont have time, or the inclanation and maybe suffer from reliablilty problems as a consequence.
Every robot will only be as good as it is built, or maintained, but they can degrade easily without a bit of work.

After a lengthy (and loud) discussion with my parents its been decided I have no where to keep Hydra, so I must withdraw my bid. Good luck to whoever buys it, its a great robot.
And to be honest, Grant and Shane have a point, I can barely figure out the pneumatics on Hells Angel, let alone a Heavyweight, so I better get them right first, no offense taken Shane ;)
Who knows, when I have the knowledge and the space, Hell Machine may come to an event near you..

Leo - sorry i didnt wasnt talking about all machines sold. But I have seen my fair share of once great robots reduced to rubbish due to lack of care. I know i would never sell ploughbot even if i gave up, just because i couldnt bear to see someone just stick a bit of gaffer tape over everything and driving round with bent axles - especially due to the amount of time and money its taken me.
-

i am sorry dave about that but me and matt could have it but it is up to dennis so if you ever wount to look or have a little drive you can in a freindly fight

You know, if I had the chance, I would go over there and seriously take a look at Hydra.
Long story short: I want that bot, but it doesnt look like Im gonna get it.

Went to see it yesterday and decided to rip his arm off for it. Oustanding machine, well designed and very well kept.
Would love to have it ready for Colchester, but reality had to take over. I have asked Dennis to get it to an as designed condition before collecting it so I know exactly how its supposed to be and can record it before someone smashes it up for me.
Hoping to have it ready with shiny new paintwork for Guilford and a few whiteboard fights.

Just one thing, the radio gear isnt included. I was looking at using the Fatuba 6EX with it.
The current radio gear has a buddy box for weapons operationmeaning its a two person drive.
With two weapons on the bot this seems like a good idea.
Is the buddy box a bespoke piece of kit which I need to make or is there something ready made I could buy?

I had a good look round it as one of the pre-requisites I had was that I understood the pneumatics without explanation so I dont think theres too much problem there. A lot smaller than the computer room extinguishing system Im used to dealing with but same principles. Got a sponsor () whos supplying the pneumatics and batteries for the new feather, so plenty of support on site for the price of a curry.
What would be useful is a bit of assistance on arena etiquete/safety for the first time. I am sure with a great deal going on it would be very useful for someone with a bit of experience to be in attendance. (Bit of a while of yet though)

Dont worry Andy, just ask anyone if youre not sure - no one will think youre daft because we all had to start somewhere :)
Adding to that Page 9 onwards of this will be useful to read as a primer:
