Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
I was lying awake last night, thinking what a git Id been just to give up vapourboteering because people knew I was acting like a child. I apologise for it, I wont throw my toys out the pram anymore, I wont be mean or horrid to anyone anymore, and will write better fights and I will take advice now.
So I have also decided to reopen my E.O.T.R Series 3, which I asked to close when I went into a paddy. I hope you enjoy it!
EYE OF THE ROBOT - SERIES 3
This is the start of a new era of fictional roboteering. Inspired by the FightingRobots fan fiction forum, I€™ve made a new tournament - Eye of the Robot (E.O.T.R). This is a great task for me to learn to write longer things, and put more effort into what I do, and not rush it.
This was an awesome achievement for me, Series 1 had 72 robots, 71 losing, but one great robot winning, called Killotine: EVO, belonging to Steven McGregor. Killotine intended to keep the crown, but he couldn€™t keep onto it, but another Steven McGregor robot was there to grab onto the title, and it got there by using its mighty ring of doom and using his 9 teeth to wreck carnage, as Whirligig 4.0 bashed its way to greatness! Now, the extra 95 robots must take the crown off him
The line-up is going to be like this
HEATS
R1 - 2 x 3 ROBOT MELLES, TWO GO THROUGH
R2 - 2 x 1 ON 1, TWO ROBOTS GOES THROUGH
R3 - 1 x 1 ON 1, ONE ROBOT GOES THROUGH
SEMI-FINALS
R4 - 4 x 1 ON 1, FOUR ROBOTS GO THROUGH
R5 - 2 x 1 ON 1, TWO ROBOTS GO THROUGH
GRAND FINAL
R6 - 2 x 1 ON 1, TWO ROBOTS GO THROUGH
PLAY-OFF - 1 x ONE ON ONE
R7 (GRAND FINAL) - ONE ON ONE
Now for the arena:
The Arena
The €˜WreckTaGon€™ is a hexagon shaped arena with three starting squares, coloured gold, green and blue. Originally, it had very little in the way of hazards, and still does, but these are very deadly - we still have the flipping spikes, and we also have the impaling spikes, set in sets of 5 in each corner of the arena, each made of Hardox and designed to cause serious damage. The pit release button for this arena is located on the bottom right side of the arena, with the actual pit being a mere 1meter away from it. The arena is indestructible, with the floor being made of 50mm Hardox, with 3mm of polished Stainless Steel over the top of that, making the floor impossible to damage and VERY SLIPPERY! The walls are also made of 50mm Hardox, and are 45cm high, giving everyone the ability to flip someone OOTA! The arena (from a birds-eye view) is 5metres down and 7metres wide.
The Entry-Rules
€ I need 12 people to enter 8 robots (You can make a team with another vapourboteer if you wish)
€ You must have a MAXIMUM of 4 real-robots and MINIMUM of 2.

Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
Ill Have Tornado, TAN,Terrorhurtz, WBC, Killer, D-J and 2 new robots
Name:Counter
Weight: 98KGS
Dimensions: 28X88X65CM
Shape: Wooden Circular Shape

Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
Damn 3 minute edit limit. :lame:
What I was going to say was, screw jointbots for now. :proud: Ill just enter some of my own bots.
For the sake of Paul Im going to post SOME stats here. I have two sets of stats to post here and two realies to reserve. I will send in the other 4 later, capiche? :) My line-up will most likely be:
Avarice
Seung Mina III
Wedginator 6.0
Super Gore Evo
The Zenith
Aftershock
Turbulence (realie, most recent version)
Tornado Mer (realie, most recent version) (thanks Aaron :proud:)
----
1. Avarice
Shape: Box with sloped/rounded front end. There is a scoop at the front, flanked by smaller front skirts. Also, side and rear skirts hinged in the middle will help against wedge/flipper attacks.
Colour: Dark orange with red axe head.
Weight: 100kg
Speed: 8mph
Drive: 4 S28-150 Magmotors, run at 36v. Very light and still give off pretty good power, especially when there are four of them.
Power: 8 CP2400R NiCad Battlepacks, 36v, 2 for each of the MagMotors.
Motivation: It uses Omni-directional drive, exactly like BB middleweight Root Canal; it is 4WD, but instead of tires it uses rollers, with a very thin layer of vulkalon put on them for reassuring but not too reassuring grip on the arena floor. This will allow Avarice to not only go forward, backward, or spin around, but also go diagonally, or strafe from side to side, completely avoiding opposing attackers. Each of the S28s powers a wheel, giving it a good boost of power. Using rollers means it sacrifices speed and traction but thats okay for the huge amount of maneouverability Im gaining.
Armour: 5mm hardox 600
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the scoop and skirts, and without them its 6mm.
Turning Circle: Absolutely positively 100% ZERO turning circle!!!
Dimensions in CM: 97 x 91 x 29 (main body)
Weaponry: A giant, full-pressure, pneumatic axe shaped more like a hammer, powered by two 2.5kg CO2 bottle. It moves rack-and-pinion style like Terrorhurtz. The axe head itself is titanium, and diamond-edged. It can damage even stronger armours like titanium and hardox.
Srimech: Axe.
Strengths: Maneouverability is crazy, extremely damaging weapon, good acceleration, good armour. Unique design.
Weaknesses: Limited CO2, cant right itself when axe malfunctions, crappy top speed.
2. Seung Mina III
Seung Mina III
Shape and Colour: See pictures. Sloped sides should thwart ramming attempts and throw opposing bots onto her flipper.
Weight: 100kg
Speed: 17mph
Armour: 3mm hardox main body, and the flipper panel is 8mm Grade 5 titanium.
Chassis:
Drive: 2 LEM130s at 36v.
Power: 6 36v NiCad Battlepacks.
Motivation: 4 aluminum hubs, with vulkalon tires for grip.
Ground Clearance: 3mm all around, except at the front, which is 0mm.
Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 114 x 80 x 25
Weaponry: A nice pneumatic nitrogen-powered flipper. The 2 nitrogen tanks are each 3kg and sit on each side on the flipper, giving her about 1400kg of flipping force, and 650kg of tossing power, more than before, giving out about 15-20 flips in one fight. It can run at half-pressure, thus halving the power but conserving the number of flips to 30-35. Whats great about the flipper is that it rests on top of the wedge, and the rams come out of holes in the wedge, so that if the flipper is (unlikely) ripped off, then there is still armour there. The wedge itself, behind the flipper, has a self-coloured plate to help get under other robots if the flipper is upraised. Also, there are several skirted titanium spikes hinged on the edge of the flipper to sneak under other skirts, which could actually spear an opponents tires if rammed straight into one. All in all, this adds up to 3 ways that the front ground clearance is 0mm, making it virtually impossible to get underneath Seung Mina III from the front. there are also some static hardox claws at the top to prevent bots for driving straight over the wedge.
Srimech: Flipper that should send her into a 540.
Strengths: Powerful flipper, cant be gotten under from the front at all, fast, powerful, pushy.
Weaknesses: Cant REALLY damage the opponent, might be flipped from sides.
Notes: Seung Mina III is further shockproofed to absorb heavy hits from spinners like Mass Disctruction Ultimate and the like.

By the way, I need to know which robots Martijn is entering, or do I just need to assume its all 6 of your vapourbots?
I also needs stats from Kody for everything except Avarice and Seung Mina. I also need 1 extra entrant from Timmy (TJS)
And I also need 6 more people to enter.
AJ? Steven? Matty? Alex M?

You were doing so well there until this moment:
quote:
It can produce 600 tons of pressure its powered by a Lem 130 at 48V
A Lem powered crusher isnt a crusher, its a gripper.
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
A question Timmy also is how can a crusher, in a 100kg robot give off 600 tons of force?
Ill put the robots name down, but youll need to sort the design out.
(Message edited by paulc on January 07, 2008)
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
OK Its a gripper then and it can now produce 350 tonnes of force.
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
You might want to divide that by at least 100 :proud:
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
And another thing Timmy, youve done the wrong dimensions as well.
Youve done them like this:
Dimensions:40X99X80 (meaning its 40cm long, 99cm high and 80cm wide)
Ive put the name down, but if you havent sorted it by the time this competition begins, it wont do so well.
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
350 tonnes worth of force equals 350 elephants standing on your bot man :P
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
No, no, Paul, hes not supposed to know it wont do so well until it loses. Let him be confident and think itll do well and then kill him off. Thats the point. :proud:

40 long, 99 wide and 80 high actually, and ACTUALLY, without dimensions, were supposed to believe its MMs hes talking about since thats standard in egineering
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
So thats actually 4cm x 9.9cm x 8cm.
There are antweights bigger than that. :P
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
Hmm, might as well see if I can actually win one of these on my own. :proud:
1) Wedge Devolution
SHAPE- low wedge with sloped rear and Biohazard-style side and rear skirts
COLOUR- sleek and shiny silver
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 90cm X 78cm X 40cm
SPEED- 16mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0mm at the front, 7mm for the rest of the robot (without skirts), 0mm at all sides (with skirts)
ARMOUR- 4mm Hardox
WHEELS- inside robot, 4-wheel drive
POWER- 12 x 12v 3amp NiCad packs, giving 36v @ 12amp; 2 x LEM-COs at 36v for drive
WEAPONS- As usual, the main weapon is a rear-hinged flipper. This is very similar to Chaos 2, except the blade at the bottom is bent ala Bigger Brother, allowing the flipper to have greater effect against bots with skirts or low centres of gravity. The flipper itself is powered by 2 X 80mm high pressure pneumatic rams, each running at 250psi. According to Dannys flipper calculator (making the flipper 6kg and the amout of gas aboard 2kg), Mr Devo should use about 34 flips per fight and throw approximately 816kg in total.
Also, the front blade can be exchanged for a Nose-style plate, approximately 15cm in length. This is used primarily for full-body spinners, but hardly ever used.
SRIMECH- The flipper can right the machine easily and the rear wedge should hopefully prevent a Chaos-style self-flip. Also, Wedge Devo is equipped with a grey semi-sphere on either side of robot to prevent it getting stuck on its side
NOTES- flashing red light on top of robot, flies Scotland flag
STRENGTHS- powerful flipper, fast, manoeuvrable, difficult to get underneath, tough armour, good traction
WEAKNESSES- could prove a bit tricky to control, limited CO2 (like all other flippers)
2) Killotine: EVO
SHAPE- compact box shape with a front Storm 2-style wedge and spatula for getting under other bots
COLOUR- red
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 100cm X 70cm X 35cm
SPEED- about 16mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at the front, 10mm at sides and back without skirts, 0mm at sides and back with skirts
ARMOUR- 15mm polycarbonate top and bottom, 3.25mm Hardox armour at sides, front and back
WHEELS- inside robot, 4WD
POWER- 2 X LEM-130s
WEAPONS- The main weapon is the large 180 degree pneumatic axe, very similar to that of Killerhurtz. It operates at 160psi with a rack-and-pinion system like Terrorhurtz. The axe is composed of 3.5mm Hardox, but if anything should happen to it, the robot can use its great pushing power to resort to a Tornado-style tactic - ram to death!
SRIMECH- The axe. Even if it€™s already been fired while flipped, the axe can right itself ala Killerhurtz. The machine also has a rounded back and a red semi-sphere on either side of robot to stop it landing on its side.
NOTES- flies the Scotland flag
STRENGTHS- Fast, dangerous weapon, good amount of traction, difficult to get under, quick srimech, nice and fast
WEAKNESSES- so-so turning
3) Metal Sonic Spin Dash
SHAPE- low skirted box, with fixed front wedge & sloped sides
COLOUR- blue bodywork, with red-and-white striped skirting
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 102cm X 75cm X 20cm
SPEED- 16mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at front with spatula, 0mm elsewhere with skirts, 12mm elsewhere without skirts
ARMOUR- 3.75mm Hardox
WHEELS- inside robot, 6WD
POWER- 2 x LEM-130 MagMotors. These will run at 36v and produce approximately 18hp.
WEAPONS- The main weapon here is really the excellent traction, but like all its other incarnations, Spin Dash still maintains its Pussycat-style vertical saw blade, running at 3000rpm. This time, however, the four-clawed spinner sticks halfway out of the front wedge, so that when the wedge/spatula combo bashes underneath an opponent, both the wheels and the underbelly are at the mercy of the saw.
Also features several Mute-style barbs on top to hook onto other robots and let me drag them around the ring
SRIMECH- a rear-hinged arm on top with a basic low-pressure CO2 set-up. Can be used to about 30-40 times and is ONLY used for self-righting in order not to waste the gas supply
NOTES- flies the Scotland flag (though, forgot to add to pic. Shockaroonie!), has F*** Shadow! written on the underbelly in red
STRENGTHS- excellent traction, fast, manoueverable, tough armour, well-skirted, great at getting under everyone else
WEAKNESSES- so-so turning ability, teething troubles?
PICTURE- http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/3603/fifthspindashde6.pnghttp://img77.imageshack.us/img77/360...pindashde6.png
4) Whirligig 4.0
SHAPE- flat disc
COLOUR- deep yellow with Mauler-style scary face on top
WEIGHT- about 100kg (see bottom)
DIMENSIONS- 101.6cm diameter X 12.7cm
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- 4mm
ARMOUR- 1.905 cm thick Grade 5 titanium
FEET- inside robot, uses 4 DrillZilla-style shuffling plates. These help prevent the bot being flung halfway across the ring on contact with another bot, ala Typhoon
POWER- 2 X S28-400s running on 36v. Uses 120 X NiCad cells at 36v, producing 12amps at 36v overall for drive and weapon power
WEAPONS- the main weapon on Whirly 4.0 is a much improved spinning shell. Weighing in at 33.72kg overall, its heavier than before and now boasts 9 Pussycat-style blades - 3 on the top, 3 in the middle and 3 on the bottom, so it can get some scars in nearly all opponents. The shell is now powered by 2 X LEM-130s running at 36v (these lie on their side, so they will fit comfortabely inside Whirly). These produce 2000rpm...and 183 kilojoules. This should be enough to completely obliterate another machine. Or worse.
As well as this, the power in the shuffling feet mean that Whirly can act as a pretty powerful pusher if the shell fails to work
SRIMECH- the robot is invertible and the blades prevent Whirly landing on his side
NOTES- Mauler-style scary face on top and bottom which show direction of robot, flies Scotland flag, my first properly calculated machine
STRENGTHS- fast, manoeuvrable, very deadly weaponry, tough armour, scary face shows its direction, very good traction, cant be flung away on impact as easily as Typhoon
WEAKNESSES- so-so manoeuvrability, feet may prove vulnerable to crushers and axes
WEIGHT CHECK:
armour = 33.72kg (inc blades)
chassis, mounts, bracing etc = about 30kg
drive and weapon motors = 12kg overall
NiCads = about 15kg
feet = about 10kg overall
TOTAL WEIGHT = 100.72kg. Fits right into the roller limit, with the 1% error margin rule.
5) Clawdius Decimus Murderous
SHAPE- wedge with small box section and high rear wedge
COLOUR- deep green with shield emblazoned on the wedge
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 95cm X 73cm X 70cm (including claw - 35cm without)
SPEED- 13mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at the front, 0mm at sides and rear thanks to skirts (arranged in a Biohazard fashion, corner-to-corner), 10mm without
ARMOUR- 5mm Hardox
WHEELS- inside robot, 4-wheel drive
POWER- 2 X S28-300 MagMotors (thanks to Scott here)
WEAPONS- The main weapon is the Razer-style crushing claw, operating at 3000psi (5000 if permitted in certain tournaments), with a nice little diamond-coated tip. Also at the front is a Firestorm-style blade and 2 small €œspears€ to aid in getting under the opposition. Combined with the crusher and the reasonably powerful 4WD, CDM can become an effective pusher/clamper
SRIMECH- Like before, CDM uses a rear-hinged pneumatic arm on either side to self-right. The high-wedged rear also prevents the robot getting perched there
NOTES- flies the Scotland flag, concept of name came from €œGladiator€ (€œMy name is Maximus Decimus Meridius - father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife...but that€™s when I phoned Claims Direct!€Â)
STRENGTHS- Quite nippy, good traction, powerful weapon, difficult to get underneath, fast srimech
WEAKNESSES- so-so manoeuvrability, slow weapon
6) Turbo Tails
SHAPE- short box with front wedge, sloped sides & rounded rear
COLOUR- yellow with the foxs face looking particularly evil on the front slope
WEIGHT- approx 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 90cm X 75cm X 25cm
SPEED- 16mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- approx 0mm at front (titanium blade), 8mm everywhere else
ARMOUR- 3.5mm monocoque Hardox, with 2mm yellow fur over that.
MOVEMENT- 4 inner wheels
POWER- 2 x C40-500 MagMotors. These will run at 36v and produce approximately 12hp.
WEAPONS- Tails chief weapon is the horizontal spinning blade. Now mounted on top, its a bit heavier than before and has Fluffy-style heads instead of the old hammers. Its powered by 2 x LEM-130s running at 36v and has top speeds of around 2500rpm, so its definately just as deadly as before - if not, more so!
SRIMECH- A front forward-hinged arm, powered by a single, low-pressure CO2 ram. Capable of operating just over 30 times per fight. Not used for the offensive unless desperate. Sloped sides and rounded rear also prevent it getting beached.
NOTES- flies the Scotland flag
STRENGTHS- orrible weapon, touger armour, fast, fairly compact, greater pushing power
WEAKNESSES- not quite as manouverable as before, flammability, wholl take it seriously?
PICCY HERE- http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/8014/turbotailsnu8.pnghttp://img63.imageshack.us/img63/8014/turbotailsnu8.png

OK its 80CM X 99CM X 40CM. Ok it can do double the amount of tonnes than TAN.

Not when its powered by an LEM130 @ 48v... If you want to state the power of the crusher Tim you have to actually work it out, not guess a random number. A motorised crusher isnt gonna come close to 1 tonne never mind 350. I will be entering this competition by the way, if anything Im waiting to see who else enters to determine whether I would get any more seeded robots. For now, any chance I can reserve Megabyte and Razer as my real robots?
-
Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
Go ahead AJ, I need as many entrants as I can get.

Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
Save me a space, i will post stats when i get back on my computer at uni which will be saturday at the earlyist.
Real robots will be
1. Fluffy
2. Dantomkia
undecided on my vapours at the moment, might try something new

*sigh* Timmy Timmy Timmy, you need to do some huge research, my friend.

ok Paul, I give you my newest design, With or Without you!

yeah, still not entirely sure on my other 5, I might do some upgrading soon.

OK its now running on 4X9 HP motor brushless DC Motors and it should cause in theory a maximum of 130 Tonnes and a minimum of 80 tonnes.

No it shouldnt. It really shouldnt.

Eye Of The Robot - Series 3 (My first real tornument!
How can it crush with a minimum of 80 tonnes? Im not arguing of how you can crush with a minimum or maximum weight, but its technically impossible to build a crusher that can crush 80 tonnes in a 100kg robot, let alone 130 tonnes!
And also, if youre going to say, Ill have 4 x 9hp motors, why are you then saying brushless DC motors, as Im positive that DCs dont give off 9hp - LEM 130s do, so Ill put them down instead.
Tim, if youre just going to drum up robots that are technically and fictionally impossible, your chances of even winning a round, let alone the tourny! S o please start acting seriously, and use grammer please - make your sentences easy to read - its straining to figure out what youre saying without you puting some grammer in.

look what you did Timmy, now nobody noticed my new vapourbot
and I advise you to type your stats in Microsoft Word Tim... but you now that, we gave you that advise in the how to improve-thread

Oh yes, Martijn :proud:
Your vapourbot is really good, and looks like an extremely competitive design. And Im sure loads of people have noticed, its just what Timmy comes up with sometimes overshadows the good things on this page. :proud:

Wow, Martijn! Extremely good clusterbot! (and one of my favourite U2 songs to boot :proud:)

Umm paul type down Magmotors in google youll get it . Ok it can crush at 1 ton. No Im being serious it can crush at 10 tonnes. Paul, youre not Mr. Brilliant yourself ya know.

To be honest Timmy, NO-ONE is Mr. Brilliant, not even you, or me, or anyone on this planet. Having faults in our behaviour is what makes us US and not some idealistic, flawless being we can only dream of being. And so you saying Im not Mr. Brilliant is justifying our position as Human Beings

Martijn...
The clusterbot is a shocker :proud: Shame on you...
First half, the rammer. Your basically trying to compress Storm 2 + 20% more power into half the weight... Whats the weight break down on it?
Second half, the spinner. Youll never get to 20000rpm, wind resistances is too much. Your trying to spin too much weight. Because the bar is bigger then the robot (And heavier) it is more likely to spin the robot up instead of the bar... If it did get close to the 1000Kj mark (1/7th less then you stat) it would explode/self destruct the moment it touched anything. Youve spend way too much weight into the bar. 20KG is not enough weight to have a chassis, LEM130, enough batteries to power it and a magmotor drive (Even using S28-150) without it going chernobyl on itself...
Go a 10KG bar, and spend the remaining 20kg into making it strong enough to survive. The Rammer, drop the LEM130 and go 4 x S28-400s, make the robot lower 150mm and make it as compact as possible.
Argh... Cant believe I just spent 15mins ranting about a vapourbot :proud:

will reconstruct my design proces and post a weight breakdown later today

alright, thats a point :proud:

very true mr Knight, but thats the (somewhat onorthodox) point of the machine, giver and receiver die, part 1 of the cluster lives, I win :proud:
I know its quite an extreme tactic, but I really wanna give it a try :proud:
btw, are 4 S28-400s really lighter than 2 LEM130s?

You cant deny its a brilliant tactic :talker:
Just a few things, I have all of Kodys stats and plenty of reserved spots, but Id like to get them quickly filled up so I can get up the draw before too late - Ive just gone into the second term of Year 9, and Im choosing my options for later in life, so this might become secondary.
So I need robots from:
Martyn
Martijn (Tell me if youre planning to upgrade or just leave them be)
Kody (I have all his robots, I just need his stats)
AJ
So if you can get them done as soon as you can, that would be great.
