Sabertooth 2X25 setup
has anyone used this speedo b4? having problems setting it up. when i plug it in one motor runs flat out, no response from controllers, status 1 light is on (blue) then the error light comes on (red) and the motor stops. (status 2 light doesnt light up at all).

Check the dip switch, mine didnt come set for RC control.

cheers dave, i have really struggled with the dip switches. I have read the instructions over and over and still stumped, cant work it out. all i want to do is set it up like a r/c car, forwards and backwards on left stick (thr) and left and right on the other (ail).

Adrian, check this, answers all your questions!

Much clearer that the enclosed instructions, Geoff.

Sabertooth 2X25 setup
followed that thanks, but still no luck lol
this is what im trying to do/emailed to dimension this evening,
i have connected 2 servo leads to the sabertooth in the following, and connected it to the reicever
2x black wires to 0v
2x red wires to 5v
1x white wire to S1
1x white wire to S2
i want it to work in the following.
when i press forward/reverse (throttle left stick on transmitter) i want both motors to go forwards/reverse.
when i press left and right (aileron right stick) i want one motor to go forwards and one backwards. or one motor forwards and the other doesnt move. (either way would be ok providing it makes it turn)
i have tried alot of different ways and i cant get it to work, i also do not know where to set the DIP switches.
i use a spektrum DX transmitter if you needed to know.

Hi Ady,
Id have expected some sort of response from the Sabretooth.
Have you a got a spare Receiver battery and two servos just to check that the bot reciever is actually working?
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
yeah the bot reciever is fine, im using a dx7 with br6000 receiver (which i have been told in the past should work together fine). i have managed to get it sort of moving now just not properly. im sure the problem is with the dip switches.

sounds like it needs calibrating, theres a voltage diffrence between spektrums and 40MHz systems, assuming the jumpers are in the right place i think thats your problem, but dimension or ewan could proberbly help you more,
think it was the same or similar problem ive had before, maybe next time you should invest in a Scorpion lol

Sabertooth 2X25 setup
Hi Adrian
I use a Spectrum, my dip switch settings are 1 off, 2 on, 3 on, 4 off, 5 on, 6 off, this works on mine to gige steering on one stick, throttle on the other.
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
sorry about the typo, gige should read give.
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
cheers dave, i copied your settings and its close now. when i press forward and backwards only the left motor is working. when i press left or right the other motor is working. all my mixing is turned off, as i thought these speedos mix themselves.

cheers kane, will give that a try. so i presume i leave the mixing on the spektrum off?
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
Ive found it easiest to let the speed controller do the mixing, and not to use the Spektrums.
However without mixing i couldnt set my Dual Rate, anyone else have this problem?
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
dual rate,, your getting too tech for me LOL. does switching 4 on turn on the mixing?
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
Dual rate is that I effectively have 2 speeds, based on % of the stick.
So with the switch on 0 I have for instance 50%, and on 1 100%. I then normaly drive on 50% making it easier to manouvre and aim, but when I then need to push or need more speed, I can switch up to 100%.
Sometimes on very slippery arena floors (GRA) Ive even driven on 30% just so I could aim.
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
oh i see!, on my spektrum you can adjust the trim plus and minus percentage is that what you mean? its these technical phrases that confuse me lol

No thats another thing. Ill show it to you if I go to a event next year where you are too.
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
ok, until you show me i will just go for flat out and hope for the best.

Most drive 2 speed anyway, stop or full forward. :)

new speedo is working great only have 1 question, when turning flat out the red light will flick on briefly, is this normal?
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
If that light means current protection active, I wouldnt be surprised.
Those Speed 700 TurboCs have a rather high stall current.

im having a problem with this controlller i go full power and it trips out and start spinning out of control any ideas?
i running 2 drills each side
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
Hi kenny, your problem sounds similar to what i had. is yours new? my dip settings are 1 down the rest up, which gives me mixing on both motors. (spektrum mixing is off)
basically mine would work fine for 30 seconds or less and seemed to happen when i was trying to drive it fast and switching direction quickly e.g forwards backwards etc....then the red error light would come on. or sometimes the blue power light would just go off and it was dead, it would also sometimes just go mad on its own 1 motor would go flat out or sometimes both, then it wouldnt respond to the controllers. as soon as i removed the link and plugged it in again, it would work fine and then do the same thing all over. mine i had just brought new and unfortunately was faulty (after dimension got me to do some tests over the phone) and i had to order another one. Technobots sent me 2 as the first went missing and still is, if it arrived before the event on friday then i can let you know. sorry cant be anymore help but if your problems are the same as mine then perhaps its a faulty batch?
also not sure if many people use these controllers and if they have any advice or how they have found this speedo for reliability.

charging batts fully up, in the manual it says if the batterys are flat it can trip out, becuase it cant supply the current needed, will try if still not working will after send it back and get another
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
it was the flat batteries causeing the speedo to trip out tis ok now :)
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
does it trip out when going below 12volts?

Sabertooth 2X25 setup
worrying... that means possible failsafe problems? should this tendancy be made known to the people tech checking?
I wonder if any others do the same, Ill be testing everything I have here after Christmas, to se if others do the same.
Ill make the results public as soon as I have done it.
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
depends tho on the batterys you have
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
just wondered is it ok to put about 18 volts through a sabertooth, cant seem to find what voltage it can take on dimensions site?
-
Sabertooth 2X25 setup
both FLOW! and 360 run 10a sabertooths on 14.8v lipo and it works fine. Ive tech checked both machines and they both failsafe fine.
