how come we cant add messages to the winter tour live event pages? I wanted to ask how it went but I could not post anything.
I believe the threads are locked now to keep everything on topic. There is of course nothing to stop you discussing the event here! (or perhaps in a new thread).
Yes, it was done on the request of the event organiser a few weeks ago.
Of course i can do it here. I was just wondering why thats all.
Ususally we get these nice long discussion about who drove in the pit and stuff :). I missed that now.
So how did the event go everyone?
Event went great thanks Leo... the first show saw a big buzz for some reason.. the crowd were well up for it, singing along and cheering and the big oooos and arrrs. Some great fights and grudge matches from the UK Champs. Hopfuly just the start of the Winter Tour...

Noticed that sign-ups for rest of the tour dates are now available on RRs website.
Im in for them - itll be nice to get some driving in again as Small Torque has not been driven competatively since mid July.
For some reason I never get to compete in the winter tour. 3 years in a row I had to miss this, even when it is relatively the closest event for us in the books (maidstone is a very short drive from the ferry, as was Folkestone in the years before).
Maybe next year. I hope so.
Leo,Just thought you would like to know that Hannibalito 2 made an appearance under the name of Wedgie....it managed to flip a few out of the arena...that was until the wheels dropped off !!
Good to hear it is back in action. So it flipped well then?
Absolutley, fantastic!!I have a video so if i can work out how to get it on u tube i will put it on.Never done it before, but i will have a go.
hurry up then andrew :)
or mr stu :)
need to see how beauty1 went bang and getting flipped out
Andrew, why did the wheels pop off?
Hi Mario, nothing to do with your engineering skills....it just so happened that the wheels of my sons Lego dirt crusher rc car fitted the half inch shaft of the Pirahna gearbox/motor assembly which I got from Robot Marketplace. The only problem was that Lego plastic wasnt very tough and it didnt take long for the hubs to disintegrate !Grant told me the solution is to have some steel liners machined to convert my blue wheel oversized hubs to accept a half inch key shaft.
John....cant do the video, I tried all day Sunday to copy the mini DVD from my camcorder onto my PC so I can edit the footage, but it just wouldnt transfer.DVD plays great, maybe Im doing something wrong ?!
Lego uses the good, but not great, plastic called ABS.
Oh well, cant have everything I dare to say.
Anyone got some photos/videos online of the event?
Photos online on the RR site, but my internet at Uni house is not working yet so using my mobile phone as net connection for internet so cant upload video files, so i come home for weekend just for a break and to upload the video.. and ive left the video file on my USB stick at Uni, so cant upload it till Monday - Sorry Jonno. LOL!

Dont know if this works, but it should be a link to some video on youtube,if it works i will put some more on!
thank you ;)
does work, pity you missed old beauty getting flipped oota
Wedgie look nice, its shape is a bit like little hitter 2. What is its weight now?
Glad you liked it! Sorry John, blame the wife....I dare you !
Leo with all the holes it weighed 12.2kg,so in order to fill in the holes and fix my wheel problem, I need to lose weight and rebuild, which I think means losing your steel chassis and making something similar to Little Flipper,a thick nylon base, lifting the wheels up to the same level as the gas bottles,so as to reduce overall body size.
You have to admit John.. its a good flipper,Mario should be proud!
well as long as you dont get under us we have np
but at xfm i saw it throw a boy at least 6ft in the Air,
and yes Mario is proud of it and i say you drive it better ;)
I didnt notice children being put in the arena when I was there!
think he means a boy what is used out in the ocean
Then he meant bouy I guess, didnt see any of those in the arena either!
he means bot i think lol hes rubbish at typing
I dunno, I still like the thought of a boy.......... :)
hope not lol
Just a quick msg.
Attending teams which are coming to portsmouth, An update was sent out last night.
More info to follow during this week.
Regards
John
p.s should i start offering a VIP package....
come and get a real hands on feel for the robots, step inside the arena and let a robot see how high it can flip you, offer open to boys only !!! :)
.....being flipped into the air.
(dear oh dear!!!)
At XFM H2 had its wheels to much in the centre which made the drive of H2 very nervous, specially without a gyro. For Robochallenge we had put the wheelbase 2 inches further to the back and the drive was a lot better then. Unfortunatly I didnt get a chance to show it because I blew the speed controller by putting the charger reversed on the controller instead of on the battery. Bu I guess the motors on Wedgie are in the same spot so it proves the drive was in the right place this time.
Now to get the drive of H3 sorted.
Hi Leo, you are right about the drive....its in a perfect position. It controlled really well aside from my little wheel problem. It could even out-turn Beauty.:proud:. The only problem I have is that by mounting the wheels where you put them, it increases the over all height of Wedgie, by the height of the wheels. So, if I want a body shell to go from low level to as high as possible, I end up using more material which means more weight!Ideally I would like to enclose the ram inside the body like Little Flipper or Beauty.Dont know why because it works very well as it is !
The rams on all Hannibalitos are pretty much the strongest parts on the robot anyway. We never bothered with armouring it. If you see Hannibalito 1 in its first version the robot was only 10cm high armoured all round, and the ram towering out the centre.
I have a lasting impression of my first event, with little hitter punching holes in cyberon:sad: so i guess im afraid of being damaged by an over head axe.
The top plate of your ram is 15mm, theres not much little hitter can do to that except hit a bungee.
So what your saying is dont mess with something that works well.... i agree:)i will have a think about it.
can you tell me what material was on hb3 at the uk champs,i liked the idea of moulded and welded armour.is it hard to do?
H III used the same stuff as H II. HDPE. Only difference is thickness. In H II some parts were 10mm and most 5mm. In H III most is 10mm.
And no, with the right tools its not difficult to work with.
But the welding equipment is £££.
Thanks Mario,i will look it up.:)
Hi Mario,
Been looking in to hot air welding, considering the cost todate in aluminium fabrication I think its a good investment. So before I buy would you have a look at this make of welder on ebay the make and model seem to be the most popular.Could you also recommend a suitable attatchment to weld 10mm hdpe, and last of all what size welding rod.
What would I do without you!:)

I have got The Saint €œfit for purpose€ in other words getting thrown out of the arena again, really looking forward to seeing the RR crew and the other roboteers and Teams for a weekend of fun at Portsmouth Im staying at the Travelodge Portsmouth any one else booked in there? Because of family commitments I cannot make the next dates on the winter tour but I hope to be around for the 2008 season.
See you there.:)
