Its a steep price. Ive paid less than half of that for mine.
It is a 77 kg sheet after all.
That gives us £5.7/kg. Rather normal for a high strength low alloy steel. But it can be gotten cheaper with a bit of searching.
Leo, we did buy a part of a full sheet. 6000*2500mm 3.2mm thick. Together with a few other Dutch roboteers.

Where is that quote from? Its much cheaper to buy 4mm if you have the weight for about half of the price of 3.2mm
@mario: Even so, at twice the price we are still under that quote. I know we got a discount, but not that big of a discount.
I have had a quote for 3mm*1500mm*3000mm hardox 4oo cost about £250. This sounds ok and he says its 3mm I didnt think you could get that size! This sounds a good price I will have some spare when it arrives if anyone wants any I should be able to bring some on the RR winter tour shows or the RL Hemel Hempstead show
That sounds VERY cheap to me.
Graig,
Team Ka-Pow! will happily take ( buy ) whatever Hardox you have left over.
Cheers Woody
Craig
Where is the quote from, do you know if more is available at that price?
Hi I have just been on the phone to the supplier about this steel he says its not Hardox as this is a trade name, but the steel is the same as Hardox 400. So I am prepared to try this and see if it is as good. The supplier is a company called
ASD Metal Services Limited
Phone no 01327876021
Contact is Phil
Web Site http://www.asdmetalservices.co.ukwww.asdmetalservices.co.uk
So thatll be Glen Metals ARM400, looking at the website. Likely very similar to Hardox from the description. I think Id still be happy to take the remainder of that sheet to beef up the armour on Ka-Pow!
Is this the minimum sheet size they sell?
The minimum order is 1 sheet at 3 meters*1.5 meters. The cost to me including VAT and carrage is £226.65p.
I do hope this information helps.
Hi Craig
I would also like some bits of this material..will see ya at Hemel ..to haggle / natter
Cheers Tony
The ARM400 is at the sheet metal workshop for cutting, they are €œHaving Kittens€ about breaking their guillotine cutting the sheet into manageable bits, I don€™t know if this will be a problem they can cut 6mm stainless ok. But they want to ring the supplier to ask if they can use their machine before committing to cutting the metal this delay means I may not have it for Hemel Hempstead but I should have it for the winter tour I hope to go to 2 events in that series.
Rule of thumb when sheering Hardox....as I recall... is to treat it as steel twice the thickness.
Hi Guys,
does anyone have or know the best place to buy
3.2mm hardox im not sure if the grade is 450,
there was an old post that i cant find now and it said
that jl steel sold it for £120, + £120 p+p...ouch
i need about 1 sq meter
cheers
Terry.
240 sounds a bit steep for hardox. I have only bought 1 sq m, 5mm off Gary for around 100 pounds including P&P.
What about 4mm I heard its cheaper? Or must you use 3.2?
Im curious as in a few months time I will be ordering some hardox.
Try http://www.abbacommercials.com/Equipment/index.aspxhttp://www.abbacommercials.com/Equipment/index.aspx
I believe the £120 p+p is for 1 sq meter of floor area on the back of a flat bed lorry.
jl steel want £65+vat p+p per pallet size order.
You can get up to 1250 X 1250 on a pallet.
the 4mm hardox is £91 + vat for 1250 x 1250
or £61 + vat for 1000 x 1000.
they said i can have more than 1 sheet on a pallet per order if anyone else requires some.
the reason i did want 3.2 was last year i got 1mt sq from gilbert grimm, 4mm is 31.4kgs per mt sq and puts my weight over !
i bought 4 sheets of 1000mm by 500mm from Abba commercials and it cost me £210. they were good enough to wrap it and post it which cost around £20 if i remember. Which is nice
JL dont deal with 3.2mm
Sounds like hardox has dropped since I last bought some :)
I have just spoken to gilbert and yes abbacomm is the place to go for 3.2mm, he says thats what iron awe 5+6 are made off and he has no probs.
It looks a bit more expencive but 4mm is to heavy
and to tough !!
I will call them tomorrow at work and let you all know the costs, I might ask them to cut and bend my flipper plate to save me time as I want to test at leicester in 3 weeks.
I have just added a picture of toxic 2 to my profile and it weighs 45kgs,
it needs 3 nicad packs,rc gear, wotty in it to be complete which all weighs 8.5kgs, then just the hardox outside 40ish kgs getting a bit close !!
now got 3.2mm hardox ordered from dave at abba commercial, £50+vat per mt sq, they are also bending a few bits and plasma cutting some shapes, ive got over 1sq mt, all in its £85+ vat + £20p+p not bad.
I think i will be quite busy next week !
