Are you using a pillar drill?
You can rarely produce enough pressure with a hand drill and this cased the drills to blunt quicker.

well its sort of hard to use a pillar drill on most parts, but on the bits i can get to it was easier

i know you can sharpen bits on a bench grinder but ive been told that is difficult, and that there was a drill attachment you could buy that did the same thing
is this true?

You can buy an attachment yes.
Ive never tried one ...always sharpened mine by hand on a bench grinder.
Difficult ....no ...but then Ive been doing such things for Decades:).

do you know what it might be clled the attachment?, so i can search for it-yeh thats what i was told its easy when you have done it for ages
thanks

Bi-metal saws do alu nicely. I have cut through 20mm thick alu with a 125mm hole saw and 350w cheap bench drill. It didnt even take much longer than 20 minutes. :) Just spray some cutting fluid or denaturized ethanol on it, so it doesnt melt the material.
