It is with delight that finally, I can confirm the details of this year€™s championships.

We have managed to secure a deal with Haven Holidays who will be sponsoring this years event. Since Wicksteed park last year we have been working hard to find a package which not only commercially works, but is the best option to further our hobby.

The event this year is going to take place at one of Havens Largest and Flagship holiday parks€¦€¦ namely€¦..

Set in the staggering backdrop of Snowdonia, this park will provide a stunning holiday for roboteers and fans joining us for the week,
With several show bars, pools galore, plus other fantastic entertainment, you will be able to enjoy a break from everything.

The championships will take place over 4 days, Tuesday 28th August through to the Friday 31st August 2007 where the final will take place. ( its also my birthday on the Friday and so there will be one hell of a party that night !!! )
It will be open to 36 heavyweights, plus others being used for demo fights, and other competitions if we decide to run them again.
2 shows per day including an afternoon show, and evening show, should leave plenty of time to relax and enjoy the sunshine away from robots!

We will be supplying our very own camping area free of charge to roboteers, and so we can enjoy all of the facilities, power, and showers will of course be provided.

We will be on site from the Saturday before hand until the Sunday afterwards, and anyone is welcome to join us to turn this event into a holiday, why not make the most of being at one of the UK€™s premier holiday parks !!

This years event will feature our current Main arena , ( grade 3 event ) and will be in the main show bar through out, INDOORS !!! and will be the highlight of the summer entertainment package at the park.

Year in year out, this park is regularly fully booked, and so we are confident that this event is going to be one not to be missed in terms of atmosphere, drawing not only the residences at the park, locals, and guests from further a field with the very popular VIP packages being offered once again..




Of course, we couldn€™t do a championship this year without a prize, and so we have secured on top of the usual trophies a prize fund of £2500, yes that€™s £2500. It is likely that it will be shared between the top 3, and not winner takes all !!

Due to the arena re-class done by the FRA, of course this means that we will not be running spinners at this event for 2007, with a firm commitment from Haven already, we do have plans to be using a full class 2 arena for 2008, so all I can say is watch this space for now, and help us make this event a success to enable it to grow for 2008 !!!

Obviously, there will be lots of developments and further information to bring to you over the next few months, but rest assured this event is one not to be missed, and should be the highlight of the 2007 season, get it booked.

A small message about feather weights€¦

As mentioned above, we will not be running feather weight spinners at this event, feather weights are more than welcome, and we hope to see all of you here too, we can accommodate 24 feather weights, and will be running a competition for you as well throughout.

The feather weight Uk Championships Title will now take place at the National Space Centre event already listed June 23rd / 24th 2007.

will make a nice summer holiday for my family too. hope mario comes along with his potion. 5 days worth mario so get brewing :) spoke to jason last night too and we can confirm team bud will be attending for the full week. my tip will be thor or kronic this year. turbulence in with a shout too if dave gets it up and running to its max. anyway it will be a good week of roboting for everyone. :) :) :)

That will be long long drive, from dover to nottingham, to Pwllheli. Awell should be wurth it!

Set out from dover to nottingham one day and then go on to that place that i cant pronouce the other day? Now thats a plan :)

i cannot give you a pheonetic version of pwllheli, as it has a welsh sound in the middle that i have no way of converting to an english version.... sorry.
the sound is made by touching the tip of your toungue to the back of your top front teeth. now breath out and left the air go either side of your toungue at the back of your mouth, over your back teeth. call this sound XXX for now.

Distance to the event is the biggest problem for us living down here in little old Devon. Kronics not driving very well at the moment either, not sure if its the gyro, the wheels or the crappy driver :)

Well sign ups have only been up for 24 hours, and still four months to the event, weve already got 24 heavies signed up, including some old favourites joining us once again!!

That means we only have 12 more places left so dont leave it too long!!

Looks like its going to be a fantastic holiday.
Ive had lots of questions from people via email, and phone, I have got a meeting on Tuesday with them to finalise things including a lot that has come up, so should be able to feed back as and when i know. :)

i have been looing at hiring a motorhome for the event.......tooooooooo expensive. i will now try and borrow a caravan but if all fails the missus will have to stay at home cos camping for a week is not for babies. :)

i remember the newark event being the best event on the calendar for socials. i was probably a pain but i loved it. i can see this event being the social event of the year especially as roboteers from over the pond are coming. i doo love bbq and beer :)

Shane if you want a caravan you can have ours, need it off the drive. Its a bit old (1963) and in need of a bit of maintainence. But was still ok 7 years ago. Can send you a pic if you want.

thanks for the offer but i dont think my missus would like a holiday in an old caravan someone wants shifting. i would crash in it tho. :)

Im coming, but Ill have to travel up the day before if I don;t get my license in June - 6 hour train trip !

Just did a check to see how long a train trip is between the UK champs and Hemel Hempsted. Another 6 and 3/4 hr train ride, or it could be up to 8hrs.

Its hard to please everyone :)

what day does the feather weight rounds start? struggling to get there for the whole thing

The featherweights are not in main competition this time, because the National Space Center allows spinners, that event is the FW UK championship. I dunno if they are running a main competition for FWs but I know its not for the title UK Featherweight Champion

I was in Pwlleli on Sunday, right by the Haven park... and I must inform you all that there is a very local, very reasonably priced and very enjoyable gokart centre right down the road....
...quadbikes and bowling too.

sounds like a fantastic place to be, with Havens attractions aswell... cant wait

Bit of an update.

I have a big meeting on friday with the Park Manager, the Events Manager, and The Marketing Manager at the park, where hopefully we will be able to finalise everything.

The sign ups have gone extremely well, we currently have only 1 heavyweight place left, yes thats 35 heavyweights, and we have over 20 feather weights signed up aswell, so its going to be a really busy few days !

We will most likely drop the competition to a 32 robot competition as the numbers work out better and it leaves us with a few spare robots.

The feather weights will be having a competition, not the main UK Champion, but a competition never the less.

Remember, as much as this is the UK Championships, it is also going to be one hell of a holiday too !!!

** UK Championships Update **

Hi Guys,

Well I have just returned from a vist to the Haven park, stayed in their Gold Star Accomodation last night where I was made to feel very welcome, and can recommend it!! The park was a busy hub of people this morning, as people were packing up at the end of their holidays.
The staff at the park are certainly looking forward to the event.

The meeting went very well, and most things are now finalised, still a bit of work to do but all on track for a great event.

The competition is going to be a 3 day competition, running from Wednesday 29th - Friday 31st August. The arena will be set-up and ready by 12pm on the Tuesday and open for anyone who wants to test their robot before the competition starts on Wednesday morning.

The schedule will be:

Monday 27th August - Set-up
Tuesday 28th August - Set-up (am) and Testing (pm)
Wednesday 29th August - Heats - First Round
Thursday 30th August - Second Round + Other Competitions
Friday 31st August - Semi Final + Finals

The Feather weight competition will run throughout the same three days, following the similar pattern, Wednesday - first round, Thursday second round, and Friday for the semi, and finals.

Each day will feature 4 x 1 hour sessions, the show times will be 10am-11am, 12pm-1pm, 2pm-3pm, 4pm-5pm.
We are working on tea and coffee provided throughout, and then abuffee cart provided for lunch time each day. And once the public leave after the 5pm we have the use of the venue for food, drink, and socialising, and then we can all go and have a jolly good game of bingo before bed :)


The actual accommodation for this event has not quite been finalised yet, we are still working on it, however it may be the case that we will be offering apartments for each team rather than camping. I will relay information when it is decided, hopefully very soon.

Again, as the weeks pass by we will be shipping information to you both via the forum and email following the schedule below.

Competition draw takes place (4th August 2006)
Draw results released (11th August 2006)
Final Details (18th August 2006)

The venue is one of the 3 Main Show bars, namely the €œ Bonga Wonga €œ, which has a capacity of 1000 people, a bar, food, amusements, sound and lights and its ours for the whole period.

Of course each team which takes part, will need to be members of both the FRA, and Roaming Robots. This will need to be done before hand as it is a way of guaranteeing your place.The deadline for this is 20th July 2007.
