Failsafe indicator
Hi everyone....Im hoping to run my new robot, Cyberon, at Wigan ( that is if I can lose 600g !). Apart from my weight problem which I am sure I can fix with a suitably sized drill, I have one or two questions I am unsure about.
1. Section 4.3 tell me that I need a failsafe indicator, can this be an LED connected directly off the receiver so that it indicates when the receiver is powered up ? I have already fitted a second removable link to remove power to the receiver.
2. Section 6.1.14 talks about an undervoltage cut-out, I havent got one of these....do I need one ? If so, where do I get it ?
Any advice would be appreciated, I would hate to get there and not be able to fight.
Many thanks, Andy.

Andrew,
Fail safe indicator(4.3) is purely optional and not a requirement. (In short, ignore!)
The under voltage device (6.1.14) is only reqiured if you are using Lithium based batteries. Not required for NiCad or Nimh batteries.

If we are counting calories John, its actually 12.24KG. And in the past I have used the extra 40g.
-
Failsafe indicator
Thanks john, that means less holes.if i lose my steel front roller bearings i would save 500g i have two on the bottom and one on top [for when you flip me].ive been thinking about some kind of nylon strip to slide on,dont want to start changing things but if it saves weight ill sleep on it!

mine is 11,55kg, with a full bottle.
-
Failsafe indicator
But you should aim to build to 12.00 kg :) or less
or 12.6 kg with gas :)
-
Failsafe indicator
Jonno as my witness - KX last week came out at 12kg dead on. And Geoff Smith can also confirm that KR3 came out at 12kg. But impressed with Leos WITH GAS at 11.55kg. All Robots WITH GAS should be 12kg or (100kg Heavys). Lets open this can of worms. LOL!!
(But not in this thread!)

I had to strip down Hannibalito for the XFM Halloween event to get it in the limit the mask on. It registered 12.0kg dead on at XFM last year.

Respect to you Leo!

no no all bots built should be heaveys 100kg +2kg of gas
as most feathers carry only a.6kg bottle
i would say 12.6 is ok
NOW WHATS THIS GOT TO DO WITH FAILSAFES
ps beauty has been 10.4 with gas but the floor breaks

Got any photos of Cyberon Andy?

What have i started!!....good job i didnt ask a contraversial question ....Just got back from the pub thought it a good idea to completly strip down my bot ready for tommorows surgery.A trip to metal micky to re make my side armour and make a new fail safe hatch, followed by a trip to the dentist [my back room ] to have some cavitys drilled to help lose weight.i also picked up some nylon mini wheels to replace my heavy steel castors.from johns advice im aiming for just under 12.2 kg..... i will have it re assembled midd sunday,so hopefully take a picture and mail it for your comments! looking forward to meeting you all at wigan....ps.will i be ok using my 2.4g dx6? i think its now legal although im not sure what the fra says.

DX6 is legal, Id even recommend it.

pop the robot pic up on your profile so we can all see it andrew....
thats a lot of legomen :)

just finished putting my bot back together,..closed my eyes and crossed my fingers....12.18kg!that is without the removable link.... do you think i will be accepted at wigan at this weight?hope so as i am running out of places to drill holes!!going for a walk in the lakes tomorow,so i will post a picture
when i get back.hope you like it,considering its my first attempt.

I think the rules say that safety devices are not counted in the weight, so you might be ok :)
-
Failsafe indicator
i have a 5kg safety teather holding my axe head on.... it just so happens its all that holds the axe head on though, so its more of an axe shaft, but I think it counts as a safety device?
Also, my sharp edge covers are 3mm stainless steel....

And my removable link is a Hawker SBS30. :)
-
Failsafe indicator
I think I had better lose a bit more weight to be sure. I have two removable links together weighing in at 47g which may put me just over 12.2kg.So a few more holes are called for.
Have a look at the picture of Cyberon under my profile. Let me know what you think. Would you rather have a picture with the lid removed ?

hi Andrew,
looks nice, but can i offer one or two suggestions at possible weak points?
the ali looks thin, you may have problems with spinners, but as they are not at every enent, that shouldnt be too bad. the front has a very tasty edge for spinners too, but again, only a problem if they are fighting.
it should be an interesting robot to fight with though, best of luck and look forward to fighting it.
ps. a lid off shot would be great

Looks nice. Checkerplate has some advantage over normal alu plating because it is denser in order to get the pattern stamped in. Still it is a bit on the thin side like James Baker said. Have you considered using materials like Polycarbonate? It is lighter than Aluminium, so you can make the armour thicker, and no need to drill holes then to get in the weight limit.

I built the prototype out of 10mm poly but found it too heavy. To be fair, that was a 4 wheel drive with electric flipper. If Ive learnt
anything its to make as small a bot as possible with as thick a metal plate as possible. Also to keep things as simple as possible.I picked a complicated drive system and bought two speed controllers which are too big and over rated for my gold motors....they say you live and learn,
still good for target practice!!..........p.s
new lid off pic of Cyberon.

fair play, a very nice first bot :)
gearing could be lighter, but i bet it works a treat. Very impresed andrew, I think well see some of very nice machines from you in the future, this one included of course.
-

did i hear the word spinner?? that armour looks more than thick enough:uhoh:, looks very well made, nice looking machine.
-

Thanks for your kind comments :),....guess the only way to see if its any good is in combat!Any idea who will be at Wigan?
-
Failsafe indicator
Not sure who else in the feathers, but we will be there with Little Hitter & Flipper. How strong is your top armour :)
-
Failsafe indicator
I might be bringing along the old ploughbot - The new ones getting a re-vamp to sort out its little problems and get it running how it should do.

Thanks for the warning Mark,
mmmm? not strong enough  I think! Do you take bribes?
