Wheely big cheese
well, everyone seems to have an opinion about the big yellow fellow, and Im inviting people to advise me on how to improve the flippin thing.
This comes from having put edgehogs axe through the ram, writing it off, destroying the valves in the same fight, and my having a morbid desire to see what crazy things you guys think about old cheesy.
-
Wheely big cheese
Well the flip on Axe Awe was pretty awesome.
-
Wheely big cheese
ok. so its perfect and nobody would change anything?
ill remember that next time i get told how rubbish it is :)
-
Wheely big cheese
Shorter nose, wheelguards, bottlejack/ Mario style ram...
-
Wheely big cheese
james i have one suggestion not and improvement .. more an issue of safe arming .. open the flipper to turn on the bottles but this only flows to a valve like a dump valve in the top next to the link .. this will turn the flow on to the system and you will be away from the flipper :):):) only a thought :P
-
Wheely big cheese
does that already pete.
opening the bottles allows the liquid into the system, but this forces the valves shut. you then need to turn the master valve (by the link) to on to allow flow to the actuator/pilot valves. switching yet another valve to on now means flow can access the valves in the main system, and the weapon can fire if the servos turn the pilots.
In short, arming involves turning on the bottles, system cannot fire, then turning on the master valve, system cannot fire, then turning on the pilot valve, system cannot fire, then switching on the reciever, which now means there is a method of operating the pilots to fire the weapon. its very safe. I am changing this system now though, so will keep remotely failsafed arming in mind when i build it.
thanks john, ill keep those ideas in mind.

Mario style ram...???
thought it was Graverty style
but mario does improve sytems :)

Wheely big cheese
WBC, Hydra & Gravity vs. the house robots
-
Wheely big cheese
What happened to Hydra? Good robot.
-
Wheely big cheese
John, I did build the weapon system in Gravity on WJs request.
}
-
Wheely big cheese
Kody, then there would be no use for Hydra and WBC :)
John, it might be a Gravity style ram, but the ram and the buffertanks were built by Mario. I just threw all the parts in the robot and connected stuff :)
-
Wheely big cheese
:proud: I wouldve loved to see a house robot go out of the arena.
So WBC 2 is in the making, James? :)
-
Wheely big cheese
it is. time for me to stop moaning about how i would have done things different, and actually show how i would have done it.
its looking good so far :)
-
Wheely big cheese
Cant wait. :)
WJ your rival is gathering strength again.
-
Wheely big cheese
no offense to wj, but he will have a job to build something more powerful... not impossible, but very hard.
but then if anyone is mad enough, he is :)
-
Wheely big cheese
Im tempted, Have parts, have technology, have no time and there isnt an arena to contain it.
-
Wheely big cheese
Speaking of cheese, have there been any modifications to Hard Cheese?
-
Wheely big cheese
hard cheese? no idea who that is.
wheely big cheese (as seen on tv) has been redesigned inside and is being rebuilt now. the mods are not huge but should make it more usable, but no less impressive.
dave, it would be cool to see just what you would come up with, and bearing in mind there will be 3 heavyweight arenas by april, one (4m high) then i think you should go for it.
-
Wheely big cheese
James if you planned to hold as many event every year that Jonno does then it would be worth considering. But the investment in time as much as money wouldnt be worth it.
What we had in mind would be better than Kronic an a heavy will hit the roof in the RR arena when fired by Kronic so its a bit dangerous to get even more powerful.
-
Wheely big cheese
Watch the RW Extreme Middleweight fight, and then youll know, James. I believe Typhoon was in that fight. :)
Ed, I think that when James said that WBC was going to get more powerful and toss opponents farther, he was talking about more length, not height; otherwise, that would be more overkill then there already is. As you said, its dangerous.
-
Wheely big cheese
Hard Cheese was not one of Roger Plants robots afaik.
-
Wheely big cheese
Its not just the fact that robots will hit the roof - its the other bits that are likley to hit the roof and go through. Small peice of armour, or a bolt fired at the end of a good flipper will go straight through even a so called reasonable roof.
After Dave has seen the testing of objects hitting materials at speeds easily acheivable from a flipper its not worth risking at the moment.

Wheely big cheese
James- Me and Ed started the CAD work at home, got the materials for the ram, buffer and valves and worked the designs over with some pneumatic fellas. Im woried that at the moment if it was built that i could be seriously responsible for an injury should a heavyweight get fliped over the polycarbonate walls (very possible) I think me and Ed will come to a conclusion wether or not to build Turbulence mk2 after seing the new arenas in the flesh.
If you are willing to show me your pneumatic setup i would be quite interested. Are you keeping the asthetics of the machine the same?
-
Wheely big cheese
the robot looks identical.
a teaser of the specs are on a vapour thread on the fra forum, but the actual design is under my hat, where it will stay, even when the robot is out there. techchecks withstanding, its on a need to know basis.
but at full power it will not be runable in any arena currently built or being built in the uk. thank god this one can be turned down
-
Wheely big cheese
sounds good james. our arena will be 3M high from arena floor to roof, if robots are able to throw any higher than that you will start to have major problems with the floor structure being able to cope with the impact of a 100kg lump being dropped from that height.
-
Wheely big cheese
i imagine even 3m is too high to drop a robot from. i doubt arena floors could take it reliably, unless of course you have a floor specifically designed for big drops? :)
wbc2 is not designed for existing arenas, i have other plans.
-
Wheely big cheese
WBC 2 is not designed for existing arenas, I have other plans
To be the worlds biggest catapult? :proud:
-
Wheely big cheese
James, why would I want to build something more powerfull ? Good thing about Gravity was always its movability and reliability were much more important. Gravity 5 (yes still underway) will probably feature the same ram and gearboxes and motors as Gravity 3. Im just going to try and make it a little smaller and less likely to do a wheely :) Oh right, and to withstand 3 metre drops and katapult launches :)
-
Wheely big cheese
so, when is this finished :)
-
Wheely big cheese
In other words...

Hey James, When will WBC be competing again?
-
Re: Wheely big cheese
-bump-
But I wondered whatever happened to this version of WBC? I know that one version is in the hands of team hydra, but what about James's?
