North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
Hello all. How long has it been since I did a big event eh? too long!!
Venue - Mold sports centre.
Date - provisionally April 28th / 29th.
Saturday and Sunday shows, individual days competitions plus whiteboards.
Heavyweight and featherweight classes, plus provisionally Raptor class and RFL featherweight subject to FRA approval and roboteer demand.
Provisionally trophies and prize money for all classes, to be confirmed after Christmas.
Please post your interest here, and include an email address if there is not one on your profile. Include robot name, class and brief description of the machine, dont assume I know, as the info is not just for me.
This event will provisionally be class 3 heavy or better, subject to FRA inspection. Further information will be posted as it is available.
First 2 heavies are entered into the main competitions, updates will follow on the xbotz website.
Wheely Big Cheese - heavyweight - flipper

Hmm, only 4 hours drive. We could do with adding an event to our 2007 calendar, but will have to check with the team first. Would we have to be FRA registered to attend?

yes, all teams must be paid up members of the FRA, but there are no entry fees, and you have no club joining fee with entering Xbotz associated events.

could you provide some more info James?

How do i go about entering?
thanks alex

North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
I got the postcode to be CH7 1EP when I looked it up in Google, dunno if thats right, but the general area seemed to be correct.
Still working out if we can make this one - I hope so :)

The sign up proceedure is really simple.
Post on this thread that you would like to come, and let me know in that posting what your robot is called, its weight, and its weapon.
Please remember that I am aiming for a class 3 event, which means NO SPINNERS, feather or heavy. This means the feather competition may be a little different to normal, as nobody needs to worry about those nasty little fellas (scorp jr, little spinner, dizzy tilly etc) so bin bags are not needed :) Of course, on the serious side, this means cadet class machines can enter the main competition without too much worry.
Ill check the postcode, but the sports centre is right by mold industrial estate, so CH7 1EP looks right.

I assume that no spinners means no active weapons for robots with spinning disks/drums etc.
Probably attend with Turbulence (currently 101.25KG - LP CO2 Flipper) and DB5 12KG+a bit spinning Drum)

-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
ok, cheers guys.
keep the sign ups coming, every robot is welcome and appreciated.
Remember this is a 2 day event with 2, seperate competitions, one on the saturday, one on the sunday, so you are eligable for prizes etc, even if you can only attend one day. The overall winner from both days however, will be crowned National Champion (Welsh Champion) :) with appropriate trophy.
Provisional times, to help people plan their trips, are for a 2pm and 5pm show on saturday, with an 11am and 2pm show sunday. These times may alter slightly, but we want to leave you plenty of time to get here, and to allow you to get home at a reasonable time.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and sandwiches provided both days.

-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
hypothetically.......
how many lightweight (25kg) and middleweight (50kg) robots are there out there, that may be willing to attend?
If I can get more than 5 of each class, well run them at this event.
-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
Would make a good show,:proud: all of the Plant Robots in the arena together, also if there is a few middles about ill try and get HighLand Fling together for an outing.:-)
Dave (Leveller2)
-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
we have a few middle interested, so im going to put my neck on the line and make the line-up official.
we will be running competitions, with trophies and prizes for the following classes.
raptors (6kg)
feathers (12kg)
lightweights (25kg, but includes overweight feathers that wish to compete)
middleweights (50kg)
heavyweight (100kg)
superheavyweight (nope, just kidding on this last one)
at present spinners are still not running, but this is looking increasingly likely to change, for feathers at least.

Any room for a fat yankee feather James?
Quite happy not to run it in the main comp. Just need the driving practice!
-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
entering it into the lightweight comp is fine geoff, there is a proper comp for this. if other feathers want to white board with you as a feather, thatt is fine also.
you will not be the only fat feather there, i know of at least 1 other yankeeweight attending.
-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
Im more than happy to take Geoffs RFL feather on, in whiteboard or otherwise.
-

Sorry, might not even be funny but it is sooo worth the shot.

another new development....
rachel plans to win at least one weight class, so beware.
-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
more good news.
we will be selling raffle tickets to win a fully working and combat ready featherweight robot.
audience, general public and roboteers are welcome to enter the raffle by buying tickets at the event, or online, and we will be drawing the winner on the sunday during the last show. If the winner is present, the robot can be entered into the final melee.
there will be a facility to buy these raffle tickets on my online store, along with tickets and merchandise.
The robot is done, and is just waiting for woodlands to decide on a paint scheme and name. good luck if you choose to enter. Pictures will be on my profile in the new year.
-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
You dont get many raffles with prizes like that these days :)
How much are tickets - £100? :proud:
(even thats still good for a fully working bot)
-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
somewhere between £1 and £5
my vote is for £1 each, but its up to woodlands.
ill let you know when i know

i was going to e-mail you James with this but the e-mail address is to long!

-
North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
closing date for robots to enter is 2 weeks before the event.
specs will be posted once we have pics of the painted machine to accompany them, but in short, its a heavy armour rambot.
james@xbotz.co.uk
not that long an address

North Wales 28th / 29th April 2007
all weight classes listed above now have enough robots entered to justify them, except middleweight.
if you have one, sign it up.
yes, that does mean lightweights and raptors are justified.
