Like you need to ask James!!:proud:
ok, thats one
is that it?
1 spinner?
garys as well
can put a drum on tanto too, but havent the time to build it
We would be very interested in building an heavyweight spinner if more events became available, new team developments mean bigger and better bots.
Chris
maybe people can see where im going with this?
does roaming robots have any plans to use the upgrades for the world champs to allow spinners more regularly from now on. There is a good reason for me asking, but its also interesting to see if anyone like 13 black, and exterminator would be willing to attend regular events if they could run?.
Doesnt anyone wish to talk about building defences against spinners. its just as interesting a subject as building spinners.
as Sewer Snake as shown,:proud:
Having events with lots of spinners, poses a significant risk as a event organiser. Especialy if you want to have an event over several days.
Just because of their destructive nature, you need more robots on the scene to compensate for losses during the event.
On the other hand, I would like to see more spinner events also, even though I dont have one, because at the moment I feel there are too few (if any).

Shouldnt the question be how people would actually fight them?
It is always the tricky question. I would love to say yes to lots of events with spinners but at the same time I dont want to destroy another robot. Perhaps more spinner events but limit the spinners power?
I realise that there are so many variables that can affect how a spinner performs but to be honest, is a crowd going to be able to tell the difference between 400 and 4000rpm? It would have to be done on an individual basis obviously and would throw up arguements about someone getting away with a bit more etc.
It is however a reasonable proposal (well I think it is anyway) which would allow more spinners into battles without so much chance of a robot being completely destroyed, exciting matches for the crowds and not so many big headaches for the event organisers.
I think realistically you could only have a spinner allowed event every 6 months, as its will get expensive for everyone else. I think we should see what happens at the UK champs we as a team will decide after that wether we would enter full combat events with spinners in the future. Trouble is for us it would probably take 4 months at least to do a full rebuild if the chassis was a right off. Which this year would mean missing the winter tour at least, which we hope to be entering as well im sure many others would be in a similar position.
good feedback guys, thanks
i personally feel that having the extra element of spinner would make the shows so much more that they currently are. (in many ways but not all)
this would hopefully inspire new builders, and our community will grow. this mostly stems from seeing how fantastic these american videos are, but also i have a need for spinner friendly events at the moment
or it will just eliminate the few remaining machines who attend the events.
Hi guys,
Anyone who follows the RFL forum over here knows to well about this subject, and is sure of their point of veiw! but there is no easy answer.
We have been pretty lucky against spinners in the past, but at roboGames we went up a weight class to retire a frame so I could build a new one.
but this was good for the audience but not my pocket book...2 fights (Megabyte and Full Smash)
destroyed 1Mag motor and 3 thors. I know I could have saved the thors if I would have tapped out, but fans dont want to see a bot wimp out with minor damage...they want the BIG spinner to EAT the damaged bot!!! I love spinner fights! But I also love Tosser/flipper fight just as much, if not more. There is action without as much damage!
I think a flying bot can get a crowd on the edge of their seat, just as well as a spinner throwing sparks and pieces from another bot!
I believe if you did 2 full combat events a year and the rest without spinners would be bettter in the long run, Exciting matches will bring in as many(if not more) new builders then Overly Destructive matches! I believe really destructive bots like Megabyte will will scare away perspective builders more likely then a bot that can throw another bot 10 feet across an arena!
I also believe that a good modular spinner bot that can change from a spinner to a lifter or rammer would be good for alot of spinner guys, who really need drive practice any ways!!!
Didnt tornado have multiple weapon set ups?
Just my 2 cents,
Cause Ill fight anything that wants to fight even if its not the smartest thing to do, but Wendy and I have this bot virus thing BAD and we will just rebuild after we get our BOTS KICKED!
Until the draw of TV or big sponsor money come to the sport its hard to see anyone but the hardcore builders wanting to spend thousands of dollars or pounds at every event!
We have found in the past that picking the right
type of body armour is only part of it , you realise that no matter how good you drive your probably gonna get a slap,at some stage anyway,
if you go into the arena thinking your going to loose, you probably will, picking your preffered attack point is useful, but the worst case for us is confronting the spinner head on, it can happen,
you have to plan for remember that, self defence is no offence, aggression is the prefered way for us against spinners, anyway if you can , pick a prefered impact point and only fire the scoop when you are 100% sure, and keep em on the back foot,& fingers crossed,:proud:
Tosser means something slightly different in the Uk Matt....
a tosser fight might be unpleasant.

a tosser fight might be unpleasant
Is that the general definition of tosser or the biblical one?
:blush::blush::blush::blush:
Wooopsss
I just spoke to my English to American translator
I guess Ill have to post that one on a MUCH different forum:uhoh::lol:
not always, i have fought some tossers in the past.
best end that there i think
what is the current and future situation of heavyweight spinners at events? uk champs? etc.... is it the same as feathers? a machine from the tv days is available to me and was wondering b4 i part with any cash!
Adrian
we have had one on the boil for quite a while now
but still needs about 100 hours to finish,
but it would be a head turner,if only I could get the time to finish it,
Der Boyz
The machine im in talks over is S3. but the £££ wanted is alot for a machine that can only be used for static displays.
At the moment static display or running it without weapon is your only option. There is no arena at the moment in the UK that will run S3 safely.
We have an arena that holds spinners. It will be upgraded to the latest FRA rules and used for an event in June. I cant remember S3 so I dont know if there are any special concerns with it.
The only Robot Wars competitor to put pieces of the opposition in the roof! Winner of most original entry in the fifth wars and twice series semi-finalist, this is an awesome piece of destructive machinery. Armed with a 510mm diameter steel disc spinning at 1000RPM and powered by two 750W Bosch motors, this is not a toy, but a fully functioning, purpose built agent of destruction as seen on TV!
No Problem Woody. The roof of the DRG arena will be up to the task.
126m² shatterproof 3m*1.5m sheets of UHMW PE
go DRG, would be nice to come to a DRG event again its been a while.
Adrian,
I have been contacted by Dave from S3 (as their local to us). He asked if i knew who was interested in the purchase of S3, as he had been contacted by some one but can not get back in contact with them.
I take it this is your self, and have passes on your email address to him.
Cheers,
Dave.
thanks david, yes it was me, i think his email isnt the best, as some messages were coming back undelivered.
well after today events, heres hoping an arena will appear in the future that will safely contain S3:uhoh:
also if anyone has any pics, vids etc.... it would be much appreciated

We fought with/against S3 in the first round of series 6. They took a huge chunk out of the side of our robot (Armadrillo). This was the fight that the destroyed Shredders discs and i can remember the parts flying around the area and hitting the screen right in front of my face. Kinda put me off for a second. Awesome robot and not to be taken lightly.
David
If you here the talks over S3 breakdown, I would be interested in making a serious offer for S3 and bring it to North America to kick some US arse.
my email is martin.obyrne@gmail.com
Martin
There is an Arena that can contain S3, and that is the DRG arena.
martin, unfortunately i am currently arranging to collect it this week so i would consider it sold. in the extremely unlikely event it wasnt purchased i will post here

Very nice arena - worth traveling to fight your spinner in.
i am biulding a spinner and am now adapting it to have a fixed hammer 14lbs or pick axe!
its sad i cant use the spinner at the moment but hope to soon
