UK Championships 2006
We can now confirm that the 2006 UK Championships will be held over the last Bank Holiday in August, and with robots from all over the world interested in attending, this should become the biggest Championship ever staged outside of Robot Wars itself.
With a new upgraded Roaming Robots Class 2 arena, the Heavy Weight spinners will at last be let out of the toy box, and show us what we€™ve been missing out on.
We currently have a choice of two venues, however we have not decided which one to opt for as yet, however rest assured when we make the decision you will be the first to know.
Accommodation will be camping, and we will be providing pitches for attending teams.
There has already been a lot of interested from general public in attending the whole 5 days, and of course to accommodate this, there will be general public camping facilities available.
We will be running two major Competitions, Heavy Weights, and Feather Weights.
The main competitions will cater for 48 Heavy Weights, and 36 Feather Weights.
In addition to this we will also be running an Annihilator, Tag Team, and International Competition along side.
The format will be as follows:
Wednesday 23rd August - Heats A-D
Thursday 24th August - Heats E-H
Friday 25th August - Heats I-L
Saturday 26th August - Semi Finals & Other competitions first round.
Sunday 27th August - Finals Day ( All Competitions )
Sunday 27th August ( Evening ) - Party Night
During the Heavy Weight competition heats, each robot will fight 3 times in a league system. The winner of the league at the end of the day will go through to the finals which will be a series of knock out fights.
The Feather Weight competition will be a series of melees with the winners going through to the finals.
Where ever possible, teams with robots in both weight class heats will fight with both robots on the same day.
Applications will be at Roaming Robots discretion, all participants must be members of both Roaming Robots, and the FRA, and sign ups will be via the Roaming Robots website, however you CANNOT sign up just yet.
We will be having seeds, taken direct from the 2005 Winter Tour UK Championship Results. You will however notice 1 wildcard seed€¦ Scorpion. Will it live up to its reputation ???

Great news, a bit ahead of schedule probably, but will each team only be allowed to enter one robot in each competition (F/W and H/W). If so we will probably enter Turbulence and Secret Weapon.

Answer to your questions guys....
Ed W, Yes it will be one entry per weight class for one team only.
Julian, When we take sign ups, we will include middle weights, however it depends on how many apply if we run a competition. Either way it is the Heavyweight and Featherweight championships which are the main ones. The middles may feature when we run the other competitions like the tag team etc....
Just apply and see how many we get.
Matt, With the two options we have you need to be looking to fly to birmingham airport if possible. If you are going to make the trip over, then im sure we will be able to assit in any further transfer from airport to venue.
Once we decide on which option the venue will be and launch it, get in touch and we will see how we can help you, including confirming the airport to fly to.

Thanks John,
We do have an FRA contact person that I have a list of Question for, but this is a big and costly trip as a few of your roboteers know. We just need to make sure we can work out the time with work and business commitments!
I Just know we really, REALLY want to go over there and meet you all and have some fun PLAYING and maybe FLYING TOO!!!:) :rofl: :crazy:

Will the feathers be going for 30lb or 12kg this time round?
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Hey, if 30lbrs were allowed in the UK featherweight class, TO could probably make it (assuming someone can lend me a radio). Otherwise Id have to design a lighter blade, a bit of a pain...
Say no.. say noo....! hehe but seriously the extra weight (1.61Kg) could be used to a big advantage more than it is noticeable in a heavyweight...?

>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
A weight advantage of 13.3% is noticable in any weightclass. For my heavy it could mean 3 bottles of gas more. :)
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Called UK Champs, could turn to some kind of World champs...
Erik, far as I know any international team is very welcome, even encouraged

Guys
Answers to your questions.
Arena floor
The arena floor will still be painted MDF, however as we will have several days building the new class 2 arena at the venue, rather than our normal 5 hours, we will have more time to ensure the arena floor is as flat as possible.
Rest assured it will be a brand new floor for the UK champs, and we will have plenty of spare sheets on hand to replace damaged ones.
Attendance
The event is on for 5 days, however I€™m sure a lot of people will want to stay for the whole duration.
However, you will only be required to come for 1 day for the 1st round, where you will run in your heat fights. If you progress through the championship rounds then you need to stay for Saturday ( semi finals ) and then Sunday ( finals ), but then don€™t forget the big celebration party planned for the Sunday night, leaving Bank holiday Monday for Arena de-rigging, and roboteers returning home.
Rules and Weights
We will be running the current UK rules, and weight classes, which means Heavyweights will be 100kg, and Feather weights will be 12kg.
All robots will be weighed in their heaviest configuration and photographed on entry to the pits.
International Entrants
While the event will be the Premier UK event for 2006, and will be billed as the UK Championships€¦ we already have a lot of interest from teams all over the world to take part. America, Sweden, Italy, China, are just 4 to mention. Not forgetting our cousins across the pond in Holland, Germany and Belgium.
Everyone is very welcome to apply, and attend the event, and it would be great to see you all.
You can€™t sign up for the event just yet, however Andy Kane is currently acting as our foreign liaison, and talking to foreign teams regarding any specific questions or problems. He can be contacted via info@fightingrobots.co.uk
Failing that I am available to answer any questions.
Regards
John

Getting off topic here guys, but probably not worth starting a new thread - Are there 2006 membership cards for both RR and the FRA atm?
I sent off a cheque for the FRA membership and paid for the RR one online about ten days ago but havent heard anything back from either yet.
Two separate organisations, so two different questions really...
When should I expect to recieve anything?
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Ewan, will check your FRA membership and get back to you..As for RR, best e-mail john@roamingrobots.co.uk
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2

>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Ewan, your application for the FRA is four months behind every body else.
It has been part processed and for your information the membership number for your team is 50.
Your ten pounds is to be spent on the following 95% on insurance and the other 5% on paying for you to have the use of this website.
It does not leave any funds for posting membership cards.
An earlier post stated that membership cards could be collected at an FRA event.
Should you attend an event with either XFM or Roaming Robots they will know that you are a member.
By posting here you are implying that the FRA secretariat is inefficient with its responsibilities.
Could we suggest that when you have a query such as this that you use info@fightingrobots.co.uk as your first port of call to get an answer.
For the record it is a pain to process one application rather than a batch of them.
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Woah, I was just checking there wasnt anything amiss with the cheque, though as Geoff has emailed, its all fine by the sounds of it.
Apologies for the lateness of the application though, other things have got in the way of me organising myself with all the regular to-dos.

** UK Championships Update **
First of all thank you for your patience in waiting for the whereabouts, and specific details of the 2006 UK Championship.
As always with Roaming Robots events, we wanted to be 100% sure, and be in a comfortable position to ensure once launched, it happens, and we are in total control of the event.
Finally, we can confirm, that the €œGo€ button has been pressed on what will be the first true full combat UK Championship outside of Robot Wars, and hopefully help to keep our sport and hobby we love alive for many years to come.
This championship, will certainly be a championship for roboteers. With 3 months notice before the event, I hope that this will give people enough time to plan, build, and to upgrade their machines, already I have been notified of some golden oldies coming out of retirement for this event.
From this point, things can only get more and more exciting, as this event, and the project unfolds.
Venue
We can confirm that the championships will be held at Wicksteed Theme park in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
Roaming Robots has held its normal class 3 show there for 3 consecutive years, and each have been enjoyed by both general public, and roboteers.
Returning for 2006, this time (hopefully in the heat of the summer) for the Championships with a full combat class 2 arena should provide a perfect setting.
Situated centrally in the UK, allows easy access for both roboteers and general public.
Dates
As per our previous update, the competition will run over 5 days. Each team will be required to attend for one of the heat days, and each robot will fight a minimum of 3 times during that day, with the highest point scorer going through to the second round.
The schedule will be:
Wednesday 23rd August - Heats A-D
Thursday 24th August - Heats E-H
Friday 25th August - Heats I-L
Saturday 26th August - Semi Finals & Other competitions first round.
Sunday 27th August - Finals Day (All Competitions)
Sunday 27th August (Evening) - Party Night
We will be running the following competitions:
UK championship - Heavy Weight
UK Championship - Feather Weight
Annihilator
Tag Team
International Challenge
More information about each of the competitions, and specific rules will be able to be found on the website very soon.
Accommodation
Accommodation will be provided in the form of camping for all attending teams. Not in our usual location, camping will be in a designated spot within the park away from the arena. More information will follow.
Arena
Now have the new makrolon, and roof in possession, and work has began on the arena. The new Class 2, Roaming Robots arena will not only have the required upgrades including, 10mm makrolon, bigger exclusion zone€¦ etc, but we may just have a few surprises for you. Watch this space!!!
General
Over the coming weeks there will be plenty of information to ship out to you all. Friday night will become our update night, on both the forum, and website as and when we need to including.
