Interesting.......
it would be quite interesting to have events broadcast on internet TV
err yea very very interesting, Im currently doin Media Productions at Luton Uni and would be more than willing to put together a pilot tape that we could sell on.
So long as i can get the backing from say the FRA, Roaming Robots and the rest of the community Ill look into hiring the equipment, crew will work for free as ill get students to help out as they could do with the experience
what does everyone else think?
If it is a possibility to move the sport forward, i am all for it. We do need to establish what the situation is regarding rights to formats and stuff like that.
So long as we dont bill it as robot wars i think well be fine,
Personally im only interested in the heavyweights as fun as the feathers are nothing beats the sight of Thz pounding the cr*p out of another robot, or Kronic chucking robots left right and centre. would be good to present it as a sport not a tv show. give the audience an insight into the minds of the roboteers away from the arena, do like a team in focus segment get up close and personal.
Of course i think the winter tour would be the best thing to focus on unless there was a sort of mini league going at the time maybe over the summer? Ill jot down a few ideas and speak to jonno this weekend unless oh mighty great jonno wishes to speak to me before hand he is more than wellcome to
If this event in August is going ahead ( 4-5 days ) I think you would get plenty of footage there

Its how you shoot it that matters initially, not where you stick it.

What a way to change topic :)
The fact that the board of directors is going to go should help - now time to all rally together campaining for more engineering stuff on the bbc...
I was hoping that 8Ack was the way forward. But after submiting footage to Ideal World the response was that it still looks to much like Robot Wars. I talked to one of the producers last week and the answer was still the same.
By the end of the year 8Ack had developed into something that was enjoyable to take part in and looked good for the spectators.
I still think that its the best chance of getting robot combat seen on TV wether by broadcast or internet.
The BBC wont repeat a format that appears to have failed.
So we either really get behind a new format. Either 8Aack or somthing else.
Or
We have to target niche TV across the internet.
I wouldnt call RW a format that appears to have failed. The BBC did try a different format with Mechanoids that did fail. If they did their market research they will find that the RW format is still popular the problem being is that there would be legal difficulties with accusations of plagiarism being made by the owners of RW. The problem is that robotic combat is exactly what it says on the tin - there isnt much scope for making it differently.
Perhaps a mixture of both new formats like 8Ack and putting across the internet could be a solution. Both event organisers and robot teams could promote this (and themselves of course) much more easily than if it were on mainstream TV.
Especially because Internet TV is really international. And you can watch it when you want. You might even catch the Chinese public if you bring it right... :proud:
I would certainly want to see this concept tried out.
Or we all start to make zooks and compete in bamzooki. :)
rather appropriate if we want to film battles http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/video-switcher-8-camera-2-monitors_W0QQitemZ7599355740QQcategoryZ53145QQrdZ1 QQcmdZViewItemhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/video-switcher...7599355740QQca tegoryZ53145QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I would love to see you guys broadcast a robot combat program online. We have only seen RW4 on free to air TV down under.
You dont need a vision switcher or mixer. You would do better to video your fights on DV and mix the vision in post production. Avid has a free progrm that you could use http://www.avid.com/freedv/http://www.avid.com/freedv/
Many of us have that capability on our home computers for post production editing and mixing - besides its quite a skill/art to do that kind of thing live and on the fly.
