14th May 2006, RR at Aylesbury
Its Back once again for the 3rd Year. Taking over the Centre of Aylesbury.
On the 14th May 2006, The Robot Wars Contestants will be returning but this time bigger and better.
Not only will the event feature the Feather Weight robots fighting it out once again, but with a more advanced arena being used, spectators will be able to witness the carnage of the big 100kg monster Robot Wars Tv Robots as they take centre stage and provide some demonstration fights rather than previously sitting looking pretty.
Central to the event will be the arena, however just as important, the robots will be on show in-between fights in the Pit area, where they will be repaired ready for their next fight.
Visitors to the event will get a chance to meet the people behind the robots and see the machines up close and personal.
Once again the very popular €œRoaming Robots Pay to Drive€ robots will be attending, giving visitors to the event the chance to show the professionals how it is really done, and a chance to buy the last of the Official Robot Wars Merchandise.
The Combat Robots event is a free event for all ages and runs from 11am - 3pm.

Does that mean the heavys get to fight as normall? Or not really? Thanks.

In other words it is not full combat and, due to space contraints where we are usually situated, robots will (hopefully) not be flying OOTA as you would see at a normal Roaming Robots show.
If youve been to previous incarnations of Brighton Model World you will know what I mean.

For those who haven€™t been before.
Aylesbury has always been a nice fun relaxed event. Set in the market square, on cobbles with the 5 x 5 arena, on a slope. But plenty of fun for feather weights in the arena, and heavyweights on display, always attracts a big crowd.
Last year we tried the art of €ÂRobot Skating€Â, a sudden down poor of rain just at the end of the event, left a waterfall heading into the centre of the arena for the last fight of the day€¦ Great fun !!!
This year we are moving location slightly, up onto a new paved area, not only is it more centrally located, but it is flat !!
We will be using a cut down version of the main arena, making it easy to erect for these smaller events but still substantial for heavy weights to run.
We wont be running any €œ full on €œ fights, we will be keeping robots inside the arena ( hopefully ) however I know that as the day goes on the fights will become more and more like normal !!!
The day is all about entertaining the crowd, and a nice relaxed event.
More details to follow this week.
Regards
John

Were sorry but Pillow Torque wont be able to make it. Shame as Aylesbury is our spiritual home having made our debut there in 2004.
Hope to be ready for the Suffolk Show.

Great event, nice and laid back. Turbulence will be painted and (hopefully) more reliable for the next one. Although the burst disc incident did look good :)

Chris and James - that movie clip was made by Jonno :) So sorry, i cant claim to that song. LOL!!!
Had a great event - luckly the rain held off all day for once, so that was good. Great to have the polycarb and run Scorpion, even if it was only for one fight, crowded loved the sparks!!!
At last KR3 has a bit more grip and could have some fun. Great Fight John, loved it mate, im sure you will sort your drive out, looking good.

Well, one of our longest running events over yet again.
Another successful trip to Aylesbury town centre, and again VERY lucky with the weather.
With the new location, the feather weights joined by the heavyweights in the arena worked well, it was great to see the heavyweights running instead of sitting on tables as they have done previously.
Feedback has been nothing but positive, and the pay to drive was very busy most of the day, plenty of budding roboteers in the making.
Thanks to the roboteers which attended, we have already been booked for next year, subject to details, and dates, but this time of the year again.
Next year ill have to put the arena flipper in there to spice things up a bit !!! I wonder how many heavyweights we could cram into that size arena for a final melee next year.????
Event report will be on the site, when I find time to write it, hopefully in next couple of days.
Regards
John

Apparently there was a funny looking robot fighting Turbulence at the end, but my brthers (being only 6 and 3) who went, cant remember what it was called, any chance of a hand?
My Dad and brothers would also like to thank Ian Inglis if hes ever on the forum, he showed him right into A.A.T and was very friendly and enthusiastic, even rubbed off on my Dad :)
Cheers,
Matt.
