Try the RC Wars guys they do some very good wheels ive got some 100mm diameter ones but they have got smaller. You will have to ask? Im sure James or Grant will be on here at some point.
hi gary,
send me an email and im sure we can sort something out for you. Thanks Ed.

We use radiator hose, but dont know if ones that small would be any good as the rubber does wear quickly.
Not quite small wheels but didnt see the point in starting a new thread.
I have got 2 x 150mm wheels with solid rubber tyre of about 1 to 1 1/2 inch thick.
I weighed the bot yesterday and am between 1/2 to 3/4 of kg over weight. I see the wheels as the easiest place to loose weight. The wheels weigh about 1/2 kg each.
Does anyone know of or where i can get some 150mm grippy lightweight wheels?
Thanks Glen

email James Cooper at rcwars@hotmail.com (im not too sure of his comapny email address!) but he sells a large range of lightweight wheels. have you tried turning your wheel hubs down? you can remove almost half the weight of the wheel on mony!
Cheers Grant
Think i might try that.
What about making wheel from ply wood and fixing a rubber tread on the outside? How durable do you think this would be?
Quite durable so long as your wheels are protected.
Another option that hasent come up here is to mill/lathe your own wheels and have them Vulkalon coated.
Chris - http://www.featherweights.org/forumStimulated
That is a very grippy solution, but then again Vulkalon only has the same amount of grip as the BLUE wheels. although more grip can be obtained due to making wider wheels. The only problem with that is that it costs alot to do. Plywood wheels with bycicle tyres have been used quite often and work well of done properly. They give alot of grip in the arena.
We solved the grip problem on the wheels of TAN by screwing on motorbiketire rubber on the HDPE hub, with a lot of small selftapping screws.
But this seems only a reasonable on big diameter wheels, as the rubbers isnt happy ,and wont lie down perfect. On a big wheel the lumps arnt a big problem, but on small ones its bad.
Grant,
What are the BLUE wheels your are refurring to?
I assume Vulkalon is expensive then!
It costs about 10pounds to cover a featherweight wheels, I am not sure if thats per wheel or per pair but it gives better grip than the blue ones that are sold by rc wars.
Also it looks much better than the blue ones.
Ian, the Blue wheels are the same material as Vulkalon. But if wheels are to be Vulked, then the hub will need to be made from metal yourself. The blue wheels are the same wheels that Razer , warhead and many featherweights use. They supply plenty of grip for feathers.
Yes grant that may be true but the blue ones dont give as much grip imho
if they are the same material how can they be less grippy?
I think the blue looks better
Because you can have less sure (i think thats the right word). Basically although they might be the same material there all slightly different. Look at the latex on football gloves, thats all slightly different. Also Graphite and Diamond have the sma molecular forumla but are totally different.
Ian,
Do you know the sure value of a blue wheel? Last time I spoke to you, you hadn€™t ever picked up a blue wheel, so I don€™t know how you know all that now? I agree with Gary, I think a blue wheel looks far superior to a roll of cellotape.
Ian, the word you wanted to use is shore and thats the value of softness in elastic materials like rubber. The lower the value, the softer the material, and the more grip- usualy- it has.
as i understand with vulkalon you can have different colours, therefore you have a complete custom tyre. But the blue wheels offer an off the shelf option and i assume are cheaper.
Much cheaper!
Vulkalon wheels are expencive in comparison and then you have to make your own hubs. I would recommend them for heavies or feathers whos wheels are completely exposed and therefore will get hit by nasty weapons.
Blue wheels would be lighter and as alan says they are off the shelf items, so quick and easy to get. The plastic for the hub is a thermo plastic, this means it wont crack or shatter under impact. Plus when your wheels get hit for example by a high energy nasty spinner somthing has got to absorb the energy. if you have a steel or ali hub it will bend or worst still could cause damage to your chassis, bearings or axles etc. however if you had a plastic hub, who cares if it gets shreaded as that more likly to give than your bearings and they are cheaper and easyer to replace.
saying this both have been used on the most sucsessfull machines around
Razer, Warhead, Behemoth - Blue Wheels
Storm 2 - Vulkalon
Behemoth - 6 Blue wheels virtually identical in size to Storm II - with 6 Vulkollan wheels. Identical tread area and loading on each tyre...
... I dont think I need to go into which gives the most grip (and I know the drivers of the other robots wouldnt disagree !) particularly Ian Lewis who saw Storm II run for the first time at Denbigh this weekend and admitted he was totally stunned at how much grip Storm II puts down on the arena surface !
If you want grip, at the moment the best option is Vulkollan. As with everything in life though, the best is rarely the cheapest

how wide are your wheels ed? the 100mm blue are 30mm wide and the 125s are i think 35/40mm wide. whats your estimated centre of gravity from the floor? just curious
lol i can sense a long debate coming on..........
lol. The fact is that The blue wheels and Vulkalon are the same thing. If the Blue wheels dont supply enough surface area to give enough grip for what you need then vulkalon will be better as you can make them as wide as you like, thus making them grippier. There is no argument lol.
Wheels are 30mm wide on Storm II
...and trust me Gary - there is no debate ;o)

Whoops! Look what i started lol!
Anyway, Are the Blue wheels available in 150mm? If so what sort of price are they?
lol send me an email Glen, il get you sorted. store@RoboChallenge.co.uk
both types of wheel have been proven by major teams. both have there advantage and disadvantage. just choose whats best for you.
James - You Have Mail.
i Can back that the blue wheels are very grippy we tried our rolling chassi with 4 18v drills @ 12v (couldnt find any proper batteries ) and i can say that the robot is pushing an old work shop machine with ease . Im guessing the machine is like 25-40kg Just a guess
:P
