I guess this wasnt an FRA approved event since its not on the FRAs Events list.
not sure who organised it - whats the problem with that ?
James
Many people come to this forum to look for events, If they are not here then how do people find out about them. This was the first event we went to (as spectators) a few years ago and decided that we would build a robot, It would have been nice to go back with a robot if someone could have been bothered to tell us it was on this year. Never mind its their loss.
If the Event is not mentioned here then I must assume that the FRA has no knowledge of the event and that it does not come upto their standards, I dont mean to be offensive but the organisers, who ever they are, should have made a point for it to be listed as approved by the FRA on their events page otherwise it gives the impression that the organisers think FRA is meaningless and need not be involved.
I for one dont know anything to do with the event, who organised (is organising) it?
The FRA does not necessarily need to be involved! Bear in mind that the FRA is an only an association as its title suggests, it is a group of individuals that have chosen to form a club. Any individual or event organiser can choose to associate with the FRA or not, it isnt compulsory and the FRA standards are not the only way to organise and run an event. As long as an event organiser takes the time to consider the risks and undertakes a risk assessment to protect both themselves and the public, they are quite free to run an event.
There is no legislation to force affiliation to the FRA anymore than there is for the FA, BCU, BMC, MLTB, FSB, NFU, NSA or any other trade or sporting federation you can think of. This is quite correct IMHO, no-one organistaion should be able to take total control of any sport or industry.

Mark, it wasnt listed for the reasons you think - was more invite only this year due to lack of budget, space etc..... Mike and co decided not to list it.
Thats what I understand anyway.

all i have to say is oops, yes thorak did get thrown out the arena and yes my stomache did churn as i saw where it was going. it was very unfortunate and luckily no-one was hurt
all good footage james :)
you werent the only one - another bot also got flipped there and yet another very nearly did !
While a couple of robots did go out of the arena, they did not escape the fencing and were deactivated immediately.

Id like to say thanks to those people at Brighton who gave feedback on my new feather.
Have now got the speed control so i should have it running this week.
Sheffield is a bit of a trek for me but i hope to be out to play soon.
yes glen i really liked the look of your new feather, its a shame you couldnt made it into the arena to play. i did enjoy putting the football robot in to play with the feathers @ only 6KG it was bouncing off everything :)especially G3 if ive the name right it was a good laugh
Are you going to be going to Magna? It looks great in the picture.
Hi Mark.
It was I and the Robodome mob that organised the Brighton Model World event as usual. This is no secret and most roboteers know this.
Ed is again correct. Its an invite only event. This is due to Robodome being given very limited resources from the overall shows budget so I have a list from past attendees that I draw upon who I know their costs etc.
I am sorry that you feel left out. It is not intentional in anyway. I have to say no to many very well deserved and respected teams due to costs. Its a dirty and hateful job but it does have to be done so that the show can go ahead.
Yes, there were two OOTAs that happened. As Kane stated, the fence did its job and the robots were immediatly deactivated. At no point was the audience in danger. The only reason that we didnt want any OOTAs was due to the floor between the arena and the first fence ( yep, we do have two fences ) was totally unprotected and we didnt fancy getting the repair bill.
PS, I would like to say a HUGE thanks to all teams who attended and helped. I now have my very own lost property office so if your missing any items from cloths, tools and unusual toys then please contact me and we can come to a deal for me not to disclose information regarding the unusual toys.
Cheers.
Mike.
Unusual toys? Thats nothing compared to the unusual activity I was accused of doing on Saturday night. Even I was shocked! :)
Mike,
If you have a hat with the word billabong on it in lost property, it belongs to tom (billabong) kane.
Thanks for having us.
