Even though LA Machine is certainly not a featherweight, it demonstrates this rule in its fight with Chinkilla.

(that is an old pic btw)

Build Diary
I know , it is kinda strange we use the same type of drills (18v woolworths except ewan has change the motor) same rc wars wheels and IBC its like something out of the twilight zone :).Ewan i am not trying to copy you in any way but its just difficult to make a rambot look different from one another!!
-
Build Diary
just been told buy kenny there is already a robot called BAM-BAM so i am going with it second name BYTE!!
-
Build Diary
Oh Ewan dont be childish does it matter if you have a similar bot? Its not like your the first person to create a bot with drill motors, RC wars wheels or an IBC, your bot could sound like a thousand other push/ram bots made before yours. What makes it worth mentioning.
( Im alittle grumpy today )

Build Diary
yep a robot called bam bam was on rw7 with a axe
i think a european team?
-
Build Diary
Yup, it was a Dutch robot with a pneumatic axe mounted on a rotating turret.
The team have now built a new 3-way cluster robot, where each individual robot is driven by two S28-400 Magmotors. I belive its called Three Amigos:

Chris I know its a little obvious but we dont want another attack of the clones! (ok, ok, I copied morpheus) (that film was bad enough anyway :))
-
Build Diary

Good luck with the build.
-
Build Diary

-

-
Build Diary
Try making something for the potential sponsors to look at first, you are not too likely to get sponsorship with not much to show for yourself so far, but good luck with the Righton company.
-
Build Diary
All sounds like things are going great for you, and i hope your sponsors will be pleased with how things go! but remember, a sponsor will leave you if you have the best robot in the world but cant drive!, its all about control!

Build Diary

P.S james is a very nice chap:)
-
Build Diary
oh also kickass game http://www.miniclip.com/robotrage.htm#http://www.miniclip.com/robotrage.htm#
-
Build Diary
Remenber if you but woolworth 18v drills you will be seriously undervolting them running between 6 and 12vs!
Regards
Ian

Build Diary
Ive got to agree, Im afraid a 12v speedo just wouldnt cut it for a 14.4v/18v/24v set-up. You might have to pay that little bit more for a speedo with bigger input range. Im quite surprised James (n James) havent found a supplier for 24v speedos yet, but hopefully they will in future.
-
Build Diary
have you thought about using the trigger mechansim that comes with the drills themselves?
the xu1 brand (dont think you can get that brand name over there but there all the same) has a microprocessor controlled type mechanism that also has 15amp current limiting in it.

Build Diary
i think price is the issuse there steve. Electronize are cheap and perform well. Your looking about 80 quid for a brand new pair, a IBC is 180quid and a Vantec RDFR23 works out about 230 quid. It all comes down to price.
