11th-15th 2005 Jan RoDs, Dublin
Robots of Destruction (RoDs) is changing the format of its annual show in Dublin€™s premiere event venue, the Royal Dublin Society, to produce a full competition this coming January.
RoDs, in association with EsatBT€™s Young Scientist exhibition, will be holding the first major combat robot competition ever held in Ireland.
The RoDs arena is a 10.5 m2 €˜class 2€™ arena that is situated in the centre of tiered seating. We have a full lighting and sound rig and extensive pit facilities. Last year we had in excess of 38,000 visitors.
We are looking for 24 heavyweight robots for the contest and eight mechanoids for pre and post battle shows.
Please register your interest by emailing rods2005@diotoir.com by 12th of September and an information pack will be forwarded to you.

Firstly, I must apologise for not posting for so long. I have spent the past several weeks negotiating with EsatBT and heres what I can tell you.
The contest is definitely going ahead from Thursday 13th of Jan to Saturday 15th of Jan 2005. It will be a live event but may be filmed.
Teams will have no more than two members. I am still negotiating competitor expenses with EsatBT but we will be covering food, accommodation and ferry.
I am also still negotiating the prize monies but the principle has been agreed that there will be a nominal appearance fee and every fight you win will have prize money which will accumulate as you progress.
First round losers will have a second bite in a losers battle.
There will be a fixed fee for mechanoids.
The accommodation for teams who have to travel will be for 2 team members sharing and will be for the night before your first fight until the night of your last fight. Mechanoid teams will be accommodated from Wednesday Night to Saturday Night.
The rules will be fairly standard so no surprises.
There will be a pits area with welding facilities for steel and aluminium and possibly titanium.
CO2 will be available.
Mechanoids will be allocated a frequency band so it will be important to have multiple crystals.
If you are serious about coming over for this great event, the please fill out an application form which can be found at:
http://rods.hostmatrix.orghttp://rods.hostmatrix.org
Finally,
I am open to suggestions for any other robots or related demonstrations that would help enhance the show between fights.
Thanks for your interest,
Pete

Thanks to everyone who has completed an application. We will be sending invitations to all suitable robots very soon. There is very little time left so if you want to be considered, fill out an application form ASAP.
Oh and Kane, the application wasnt directly ripped but does have a surprisingly similar content to, and is probably loosely based on, an application seen elsewhere on the web :P
Thanks again and when I am allowed to tell you more, I will,
Pete

Guys,
We have our application in, and are very keen to come along and play, but with only 6 or 7 weeks remaining, it would be nice to get a confirmation and some more details etc. Appreciate that there is a lot to organise.

Were organising passports when we get a confirm. It takes about three weeks so given that its Xmas hols probably about five to six weeks would be more accurate.
Its starting to look a little tight.

Jonno,
You can take Rev3 out for a fight as well. Have just finished machining the new mountings for the disk, and just about to take it up to 5000rpm to see how they hold. I never seem to be able to win a fight when the disk is working - maybe you can do better.
Just have my fingers crossed that this event goes ahead as planned.
Roger.

Weve had a phone call from them, long chat about what were doing and whats going to be on.
I know Pete said that not everyone who applied would be able to come or something like that at some point. I can only assume that there isnt room for everyone that applied.

Hi everyone, I am back in action again after a minor motorcycle accident (broken leg).Ive spoken to most of you on the phone by now.If I havent talked to you, its because I didnt get to you before the accident, sorry. If I have talked to you then you should know we are just finalising the ferry logistics before we send out the information packs. If you applied and I havent talked to you yet then contact me as soon as you can as I have had some trouble contacting people. Also we have had a couple of teams pull out at the last minute so there are a couple of vacancies available for last minute applications.
Hope to see you here,
Pete

Just got back. Well done to Chompalot some excellent driving for a well deserved win.
What a great event, us roboteers were certainly given the red carpet traetment. Good crew, well organised show and screaming crowds. It really just doesnt get any better.
Can we come back next year (pretty please)
-
11th-15th 2005 Jan RoDs, Dublin
A very different format to the one we are all use to, but very entertaining and a really good show. The atmosphere throughout the three days was brilliant, and the evenings out in Dublin were special too.
Well done to the diotor boys......Zulu kept the crowds entertained and the roboteers too......what a man! (mad)
Also well done to Debs and Si for a well deserved win.
It was also quite nice to see Chaos 2 in action for the first time in years. The flipper still ranks among the best available today.
See you all next year.
