Cereal Box Killer Update
Hi, our first middleweight robot Cereal Box Killer is being built ahead of scedule. The chassis has been built and we are currenty trying to get the right componants for the robot. I have been in contact with Team Onslaught and may be taking a trip down there soon to have a look at some motor and stuff. The disc in nearly completed, it weights about 12 kg at the moment without weight reducion holes.
The robot will hopefully be ready for its first battle with Blazer at RAF Cosford on the 13th of June.

Cereal Box Killer Update
good news, any pics? Not done anything on blazer for a while due to getting the other robots running. Waiting for a few bits to be sorted. Blazers specs;
2x 400watt (ish) wheelchair motors
2x 7Ah SLA batts
2x Curtis speedos
Pneumatics consist of a 80mm bore 210mm stroke ram at 10 bar (about 500kg of force), 3/8th high flow valve. 12mm tube, at least one 1litre buffer and maybe twin regulators (depends on weight). Armour will be whatever weights left :P Hopefully get some pics up on the website tomorrow.

Im weighing up components for the new machine.
chassis
motors, gearboxes and wheels
batteries
ram
extinguisher (estimated)
pneumatic valve
Just a tad over 30 kg. That sounds OK to me, but plenty of work to be done. Ive got lots of ali checkerplate and polycarbonate.
Anyone else aiming for Manchester in August?

Blazer look like similar specs to me. My motors are smaller but running at 36v. My ram is 80mm but finding room for a buffer tank seems too much for me.
Be wary of having too little armour. Its a melee so you might be after someone and get a spinner suppository that you werent expecting. Its rather different than one-on-one.

Cereal Box Killer Update
Alan,
Are you using the wheelchair gearboxes? I am but the wheels are rather large at 12 or so. Johns Steel Sandwich is a masterpiece of minaturisation that means that he has the weight left to have battleship armour, just right for melees.
I think that the buffer tank negates the need for a second regulator. I think that Ill have to see if I have room and weight for a buffer too. I might even be tempted to fit a spare valve in the circuit as that might prove a bottleneck in my setup.
My ram is 160 mm and is bloody awkward because of the length. You must have it even worse. Im thinking perhaps that Ill have the ram fixed and sitting in the bottom of the chassis. How are you doing it?
Ive never used pneumatics before. what sort of experience do you have?
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
ive had enough experience in melles with the feathers and heavy. Im going to concentrate the armour on sides/back and just keep thin stuff on base/top. Us flippers will have to stick up for each other, get rid of those nasty spinners!

Cereal Box Killer Update
the last post appeared whilst i was typing the above :P we have a fair bit of experience with pneumatics. We started of with the feathers, in G2/G3 we started with a compressor flipper over a year ago, then it got changed to Co2, It now uses a 63mm bore ram and is probably the most powerful LP flipper on the circuit. The heavyweight uses a FP system.
Ive overcome the ram problem by having it at a awkward angle, but due to the power it overcomes this. Due to the size of ram it really has to have a buffer, the twin regulators was just going to help with filling the buffers up quick. I dont know many regs that can fill a 80x210mm ram quick enough.
I am using the gearboxes on the motors, they have been slightly altered but still need the 12inch wheels (which makes the robot look rather odd!). My chassis is mainly made from 1mm wall 25mm steel box, with 2mm thick used on the flipper.

That gives me some pointers. I am still thinking about the idea of a fixed ram and an arm.
I may well have room for the buffer tank as the wheels are going to produce a rather humped back effect.
What hinges are you using for the flipper?
The bodywork is a fairly monocoque affair having got a perforated stainless steel box as scrap. the idea will be to weld this up and clad the outside with checkerplate ali and/or polycarbonate.

Cereal Box Killer Update
im making my own hinge, similar to the one on Merlin. We had alot of problems with Merlin breaking hinges. All it will be is a steel tube with a stainless steel bar through.
Phots are on the website, http://www.blazerbotics.co.ukwww.blazerbotics.co.uk under blazer

Alan,
Im currently building a feather flipper and planning to power it with a compressor - could you please let me know how you attached the compressor into the pneumo system as this is currently my main grey area.
Cheers

Kev,
We took the compressor hose off and just fit some 6mm pipe onto it with a jubilee clip. It works ok as long as the compressor doesnt get too hot and soften the pipe. Works well as a overheating safety device :)

sorry, no pics yet but will post them on my site when i get some.

OK Cheers for that - Did you cut the hose or take the compressor apart and disconnect it? It would be nice to still be able to use it as a compressor if I suddenly found myself en-route to an event with a flat tyre :proud:

We got a junior hacksaw and cut through the metal crimp connector and the hose just pulls off. I dont see why you couldnt use the jubilee clip to attach it back on if needed and use it as normal.

Having seen your very good website Alan, I wonder if we are the first generation of middleweight gas flippers.
What was the weaponry of Doom Too at Extreme 2?
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
As far as I can remember, it did not have a weapon. If anyone has contact information for them we could ask them (and encourage them to attend at Manchester).

my pics have been sent to be developed and will be on my website this weekend.

im hoping to get rampage up and runing for manchester i hope to get some pics on a server (when i can find a digital camera)its got 1 or 2 32mm boar 320mm stroke rams on to a flipper

right, im going to take a picture of the bot with the disc on and the first body cover we made, it will be on my profile and my site by the end of the week.

carl, dont if you read on the live events section but we are no longer attending the Cosford event. But Blazer will be at many events over the year to have a play with :)

Cereal Box Killer Update
ohhh
i wonder if were alowwed to battle a heavyweight??
**me thinks if C.B.K will trash atomic**
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
Carl, Of course you can battle a heavyweight. There are so few middleweights around that the only way to work one up is to fight heavies. Of the 40 fights Ive had so far with Sandwich, only 4 of them have been with other middleweights. Get down to your nearest live event and try it out!
Think twice about Atomic though. I hit them with a 9 kg disc doing 1,800 rpm -just punched a little tooth shaped rectangle out of them and got heaved OOTA for my trouble.
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
yeah, i will
dont think ill have a go at Atomic now, seeing as it got trashed in S7, i could be a new machine now.
the first pic of C.B.K is on my profile

Right. Fooled. Sorry.
Not all of us, Ewan, spend our time looking up obscure machines on the net.
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
I didnt, (I was reffering to Carl as the plonker for saying that was Cerial Box Killer) I just happened to know that bot somehow :)
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
Ah ok. Apologies are due :P
Looks like one of the lighter bots, from what I gather.
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
its not that big, we had to keep the size down because of the weight of the disc, so if we compaced it in a smaller space, it would be harder to get hold of, nipperier but it keeps the same destructiveness as our future projuct which we havnt started yet.
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
But what about a picture?!
-
Cereal Box Killer Update
i uploaded the wrong pic, i did an enhancement on this picture of what out bot looks like but i uploaded the wrong pic, ill upload it again
-

I still dont see your bot...
