I dunno but I saw it at Enginuity on Saturday and it is looking to be a impressive machine.
Couldnt post a link for a pic of it could you?
Hmm, Ill see what I can do, Matt. My dad took a pic of it, so if the pics from the event have been developed by this weekend, Ill see if I can get it online.
Would be intressting to see...
Tom, hows it going with the pictures?
How is the new Mortis looking? I heard that they were initially developing two robots. One for the States the other for the UK - being Maelstrom and Mortis Infranor (sp?) respectively.
Hi guys, well good news & bad news, good news is I have a picture of the new Mortis, bad news is I dont have a scanner & cant upload the picture onto the computer.
Do you have the negatives? You might be able to talk Boots into sticking them on CD for you. Failing that, its grovel at a friend time. :-)
Im hoping you resolve it, because Im looking forward to seeing the new designs. Describe it/them for us, to tide us over?
(Must get a scanner myself. Recently spent ages trying to get a decent digital photo of someone elses photo which they wanted back; more hassle than it was worth, no matter how much I like my new camera.)

Yep, Ill see what I can do, but the design, Ill describe it as same chassis as the last Mortis, an acutated lifting arm, a better axe, a different track design & well, its isnt finished
Sounds like what I saw at Wrexham last year. Presumably its had more done on it since then. I was talking to Arthur about it which was very interesting.
+ Completely modular construction,
+ tracks can be swapped for wheels, resulting in a speed increase by about 300%
+ Theres a dog clutch gear change incorperated in both drive systems
+ low gives about 30mph with wheels,
+ high about 120mph [i.e. a full body spinner mode]
+ axe also features a similar clutch so the axe can also be used as a front hinged flipper/self righter
+ Ti monocoque
+ magnets above tracks
+ lifter was more Biohazard style than the old lifter.
This is all from memory so some of it might be a bit out but the photo on my profile is quite detailed [you can see a hobby RC servo near the bottom of the photo that was used to change gears in the drive train] needless to say the whole thing was magnificently engineered.
If anyone wants more photos Ive got a couple of others showing more detail in the gearing, just email me.
It would be interesting to know what progress has been made since then.
Mark
Interesting, Mark - thank you.
Im not sure about this full-body spinner thing (obviously basing this on little information) - they seem a bit of a funny shape for it. Im a bit hazy on the point of the magnets above tracks thing. Is this the one aimed at BattleBots (metal arena floor, extra grip, type thing)?
Ill be interested to see progress. Ill get in touch about the pictures once Ive got my email sorted, Mark (about to move house, bad time to fill my quota...)
Good to see the old girl back, even if not quite ready for action.

I should have expanded on the magnets bit. They would be there for added downforce in the battlebots arena, yes. Im guessing this would be to hold the robot down when they fire the axe or for extra traction when pushing someone.
Incidently, one for your innovations thread, SOW ICE has magnetic tracks but for a slightly different reason. The robot produces so much torque on spin up of the cage that the body would spin round in the opposite direction, equal and opposite forces and all that.
Mark
Guys.
I do know that the Mortis chaps are talking of hopefully having something up and running for our event at Cosford, fingers crossed that they manage to fit it round their somewhat busy lives.
Ive been trying to talk Arfa/Rob into getting something up and running for about 2 years now, so therell be no one more pleased to see it than me if they do!
Sam
But if they go to Battlebots, doesnt that mean they cant compete over here? (or does that stupid rule only apply to RW and not to live events?)
Sounds like the best bot ever, heres hoping it can attend some other RR events too. (hopefully Newark, Edinburgh and Liverpool so I can get to see it)
With Arfa as a judge, I cant see a new Mortis being at Manchester!
Perhaps I should be in this thread,
the new modular Mortis/Maelstrom test setup that has been seen at 2 or 3 events in the last 18 months or so will definately not be in any competition this year, now next year, well, watch this space. It is highly likely that it will run in both formats at different times in the UK, as the news is; we are building a totally new HW concept for Battlebots, and no, I aint telling. You never know, you might even see Mortis/Maelstrom in both guises on 2 consecutive days at a 2 day event, as we anticipate the changeover from Mortis to Maelstrom to take 2 - 3 hours.
The test rig is being developed by my son, Matthew, into an exhibit for active, automatic display at a couple of events this year. It will have the 2 speed electric axe, lifter and 2 speed tracks all working at the same time, inside a cage as an engineering teaching aid.
Cool - thank you Arfur, look forward to seeing it!
Thanks for the extra information, Mark. I think SOW ICE had passed me by - better get back to their web site and have a look. (Wonder if going ICE would solve their problems with Y-Pout/Y-Not killing their batteries? Hmm.)

I dont know if that was its official name, but imagine SoW with a motorbike engine.
Imagined it? OK, stop crying, no-oness going to make you fight it.
Nitro SOW runs two 125cc YZ gokart/motorbike engines. Its got plenty of power :proud: Best fight Ive seen it in is Nitro SOW VS The Plague.
Arent you glad you waited 9 months to be disheartened?
