If you dont want to or dont have the time/tools to do the design and manufacture of a featherweight then the zeobot will be a great way to get a working robot so you can start attending events and meeting people. Considering the robots Paul (who i think has designed it) has built in the past it should be a very competitive robot. However i think as soon as you fight with it and get the roboteering bug you will go and design and build one from scratch (its addictive this roboteering lark). Very few peoples first robots are competetive, most of the skills you need to build a truly great robot you will learn by talking to people at events and on this forum, the zeobot could be a good way to get good from the start.
In conclusion,
Zeobot - sounds good, a great way to get into roboteering, cant wait to fight against one
If you are anything like me, once you have been to your first event you will go home and spend the next 2 days doing sketches and designs for a robot that you can call your own and be really proud of.

Just wondering if there is anymore info on these things yet. Its amazing they have their own class in the upcoming FRA world champs, and weve not even seen one yet!
Lots of people are dying to see these Paul, any sneek peeks?
I spoke to him at Deb and atm hes having trouble getting some one to cheaply manufacture the chassi and armour...But its an interesting idea:)

James, the Zeobot concept was pulled from the World Champ proposal because they simply wouldnt be ready in time
Means more space for others instead !

The Zeobot has always been intended to be lauched in May and supplied in five monthly kits of parts. Thus regretfully would never have been ready for the FRA World Championships, hopefully next time.
The shape of the Zeobot is now decided but as Dave suggests, the shell has presented significant manufacturing problems. The chassis is solid ali and is not a problem.A prototype shell is being manufactured and I hope to see a fully functioning prototype with 3 weeks.
The kit is targeted at newcomers and offers many opportunities to improve performance.Hopefully many of these newcomers will get the bug like the rest of us and continue with either featherweights or even heavyweights.
I intend to build a number of Zeobots with differing weapons to show what can be achieved using the basic platform.
The standard Zeobot will be 4 wheel drive (4 motors), solid ali chassis, 2 piece fibreglass body, pneumatic front hinged lifter (using on-board compressor), srimech, approx 10kg with lifter, 8kg without, all electronics etc.All you need to add is the RC receiver and transmitter.Total cost will be £395 incl VAT (in 5 monthly installments), ordering on-line will be from mid May but it is possible to order from the Zeobot leaflet now.If anyone would like a leaflet, Email me with your full address and I will send you one.
