Roaming Robots - GRA Germany 12th 13th June

The German Roboteers Association has plannend 2 big events in 2004.
The first one is a normal 2 day event,in Essen, not that far from the Belgian Border.Date 12 & 13 june. This is in conjuction with the D&W cartuning show.


The other event is in the project stage and is in conjunction with Konzeptfilm GmbH , a TV production compagny. No real date set yet, but to get things rolling the GRA needs pictures of combat ready robots(or almost)mailed to

The talks for this TV production are rather interesting as the Germans do think about a 16 heat series.
Date to be set but will be after september.

First of all an information for all roboteers: according to the actual state of affairs, there will be two events with the heavy-weights in Germany in 2004.

The first event - named D&W- will take place in Essen on the second weekend in June (June 12th / 13th, 2004). We (GRA) will play a 2-days show tournament there.

Thanks to the engagement of €œHammer€, we also got into touch with the movie production company €œKonzeptfilm GmbH€. In autumn there shall be shootings with the heavy-weights in tournament character. We don€™t have a name yet, I just call this event €œconcept fights€ (unless we have a better name). The shooting date €œautumn€ is somewhat vague, but anyone can estimate whether he will still be on holiday in October / November or whether he will have finished the bot.

Any team or bot can participate who corresponds to the present rules for heavy-weights. The team doesn€™t need to be a member of GRA, our Dutch, Belgian, English Swedish and italian friends (.. have I forgotten anyone?€¦) are cordially invited as well!


Now some details for your cooperation:

1. Photoes:
Each of your teams who sees a chance to participate in one (or even both) events with a heavy-bot should immediately send one or several photoes to Holger (e-mail: hb@team-armageddon.de) or Erich (e-mail: erich@team-tsunami.com).

The matter is urgent and must be finished within the next few days! Please send your pictures by Wednesday, February 4th, 2004. The movie company wants to know whether we will be able to get enough bots and how the machines look.
Holger will collect and forward the pictures.

2. Bot availability:
In order to judge with how many machines we will be represented at the events we need your estimation. Please follow the scheme mentioned below when answering the mail and state one of the possible answers. Explanations €œwhy€ etc. are not necessary.

We are working on it Adam. The problem is that the chief organiser, Holger, is difficult to reach. Emails are seeking him right now. (Uhmmm *blush* Im spamming him since yesterday...)

Cheers for the reply, just wanted to know as it would be nice to start making plans with regards travel etc. Would be nice to get the early booking discounts :)
Any chance of a list of UK teams that have signed up for the event, this would help with travel plans.

Is there any confirmation on this event yet, Black Top Productions have just put up an event on the same weekend. We would like to come to the GRA event but dont want to miss out on an event, due to not signing up.
Also as said earlier it would be good to start making travel plans.

I cant say for sure until we get more information. If its at a car show will it be Like Newark with camping or do we all have to find our own accomidation. If Roaming Robots take the robot and we fly in wheres the nearest airport and could someone pick us up. Is anyone thinking of getting a minibus/coach for all of us?

Its not that long off so the sooner we have more info the better.

We are looking at flying from Manchester Airport on Friday afternoon and getting back in the uk for around 10pm on the Sunday night (this will give time to finish of the event and still get to the airport). The closest Airport is Dusseldorf (its about 50km from Essen) We were thinking of hiring a car/van and driving to the venue (we have about 5 team members going)

With what looks like 10 teams going, it would need to be 2 15 seaters to accomodate everything.

Distance is fine - 200miles to dover, 250 miles to Essen from Calais (@£250 diesel). Full days travel though.

Ferry is fine, @£400 for 2 mini-buses

But it is impossible to find a minibus for hire, that will let you take it abroad.

Any thoughts anyone ?
Will we all fly and dump 10 Robots+Toolkits on Jonno ?
Who wants to do the whole Road-Trip thing ?

Id be up for that, Im down at Lakeside with Jonno this week - we were going to have a chat about the best way to get the UK teams over there, and help the Germans ensure that the event goes ahead and goes ahead smoothly.

I think sending the bots with Jonno sounds like the best idea !

So people, dont worry, the real ghosts are still around.

Flights from BA are approx £90-100 pounds per person from manchester to Dusseldorf. Cheapest Ive found so far. For 3 of us planning on going it is cheaper (just) to fly than drive, but have not looked at how much the hire car/van is.

If there are 30 people going then I would have thought that a coach would be best. It could start with rodger and works its way down picking people up on the way. If theres any interest in this I can look into it further.

The GRAs event will be going ahead. Roaming Robots will be ensuring that both the UK, and European teams have their costs met to get to the event. Well look after this centrally, more info to come !

The exact details are still being sorted out, but we can give a 100% assurance that this will be an International Roaming Robots spectacular.

As with all Roaming Robots events the list of people coming is posted above, where people have said were coming. We understand via the Germans/BTP that the Cosford event almost full so if anyone else wants to come along to the Roaming Robots GRA International Spectacular weekend youre all more than welcome !

Dear friends,

We are sorry to officially announce the abortion of the GRA event in Germany in June.

In spite of our effort we did not succeed to get a solid agreement with D&W, the organisation of the overall event. But because we are running out of time and our friends from Brittany and The Netherlands have to plan for this event, we had to decide to cancel the event.
This will not mean that there will be no events in Germany in the future; we will keep you informed about that.

Furthermore, in name of GRA, I want to thank al the Teams whom declared to participate in this event for their patience.

We are currently not on the list as going and as soon as the event is sorted out we can look into it in further detail but are still interested in going. I personally dont see why it should be canceled there is enough interest from roboteers but not being an event organiser I dont know how difficult it is. If the car show gives us the space then whats the problem?

From what ive read the last couple of days, there will still be an event.
The where problems with sponsorship, a desicion was made last sunday. The event will be held without them but there will still be an event.
