Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Its back,
Following the success of our Feather Weight Smash 2003 on August the 9th, the event will be going ahead again in 2004 on the 6th March. New location but still central of the UK - Halesowen near Birmingham. Bit further north from the last venue.
Same arena setup again, arena hazards will be back, few twists in the competition setup - same sort of prizes. Full on combat plus white board. And we now have Seeds for 2004s event!
More info about the event going up on the web site soon - Sign up page will open late December.
If you didnt make it to the August 2003 FWS, write up of the event can be found at http://www.featherweights.org/fwsmash_2003.htmhttp://www.featherweights.org/fwsmash_2003.htm to show you what your letting yourself in for.
Happy Roboteering

Yep - its back.
We did it on August 9th 2003 - which went off with a bang, and ended with good comments. Its time to do it all over again now - and will improve upon what success we have already created.
Sign up page opens soon,
Sadly we are putting a LIMIT on robots that can come, due to health and safety reasons of the venue. Its a DIFFERENT venue and its a bit bigger. The limit is GREATER than the amount of Feathers that turned up to our 2003 event, but that was due to a few pulling out, and or some teams didn€™t sign up due to holidays in the summer holiday period. So theres a good chance this one could be full soon.
PS - Feather Weights AND Ant Weights welcome - we will be having a few Heavy Weights on display once again. Main competition for Feathers and Ants to win prizes again like last time. Different format this time also - some things with a twist to liven it all up a bit more.

Antweights:
will be same deal as last year
double elimination system
nice fair way to get a second chance and it seemed popular last year so will run it again this year.
Depening on numbers and how long the ants run we wil lbe doing a sumo comp. and if there is still more time football.
anyway hope to see you all there and there are already some good ants down on the list so sign up now ;)

Will full vortex style spinners be allowed in the small roaming robots arena?
Cheers, Ewan
(still happy after finding a pillar drill under the christmas tree :))
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
IF they are built safely like vortex - then yes Ewan.
A bar or big flywheel mounted onto a 10mm motor shaft with a M6 bolt and nut holding it on - is not safe mate. I would advise you to maybe send pictures of your construction of ur spinner to us or roaming robots before you turn up and get a dissapoiting Un safe stamp on your tech sheet.
Yes they will allow it at Robot wars, because they have spent alot of money on a near perfect safe arena, so they dont care what happens in the arena up to a point.

Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Ah, but I got bored with that (well... not actually bored, more like the magnets in the motor shattered when I can up against a sheet of 6mm steel). Seeing as its christmas (and I got a pillar drill :)) Im now going to go into vortex quality robots. Ive just got myself a new sponsor in the form of Roplas, who are providing me with 8 and 10mm polycarbonate and a few hundred pounds...
Thats going on a proper bot (S28 mag powered spinner, waterjet cut 4kg disc). So is vortex coming, Im sure they wouldnt mind fighting their clone :))
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Vortex is now retired. Horizon (new one) will be at Feather Weight Smash 2004.
And whats the point in making a clone. Yes people pintch ideas - but a clone, hmmm.
God knows where ur getting all these sponcors from.
Mr Stu
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
I think I have emailed every company in the whole of Europe so far for sponsorship :)
It isnt actually going to be a clone, beacause I plan to use a waterjet disc powered by a S28 Mag, with 8-10mm polycarb and 6mm ali, and a wedge profile. The only differences are that it is to be run off drill motors, and run both ways up...
(also, has anyone ever managed to assemble a pillar drill in under 5 mins before:))
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
yeah we put ours together alot quicker. just having a pillar drill doesnt mean that your robots are going to be any better quality (it just means your holes should be at 90 degree). you could have a full workshop in your shed, but you still need gaffa tape and a big hammer!
might be able to get to this one this year.
Happy christmas!
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Nothing wrong with gaffa tape, though the true engineer prefers duct tape.
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Tie-raps and duct tape, the choice of roboteers. :)
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
You wouldnt believe how much metal filings are in my drill motors, my bat packs are held with tie-raps :)
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
nothing wrong with tie-wraps.
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Soo true.
Jonno with RIP won Inspire FWSmash with more tie wraps in the bot than in EVERYONES ti-wrap tubs put together. :)
Mr Stu
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
tie wraps rule.
its not a REAL robot until it has duct tape and tie wraps anyway :D
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
You wouldnt believe how much black and yellow diagonal tape, Ive got on my new bot...
Oh and stu, when is the list of bots going to this event going to be up?
Cheers, Ewan
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
wow.... Rip must be a Real robot.. :)
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org

Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org

if theres any chance of it,stu, send me a form please.
:)

Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Well we have had 2 teams drop out, so we maybe able to fit you in, even tho we would rather have more room for the current teams. But and email has been sent to you asking for some info.
Would be helpful if you could 100% confirm your coming at least 1 week before the event. People will have to share benches, so if you would prefer to share a bench with soemone - place your name here who you want to share with. LOL! Note - not everyone can share with the spinners to try and make friends and bribe them! :proud:

Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Will try James, but Kenny has taken the other place and a new robot called Tidal wave has also taken the other place. If Niel can come, then we have already gone over our limit. Will contact you if theirs room, but at mo - were already over our 28 Feather Limit with 38 exspected to turn up at mo - thats without Neils bot.
Mr Stu
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
okey dokey matey.
keep us in mind tho.
might show up anyway in case anyone breaks down if thats ok with you?
Ill leave the boyo in the car til its needed save filling up your pits. (already full)
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Stu,james can take the place you saved for me.
i got the time off,but i havent got the funds available to attend
building all these new robots has left me a broke man :sad:
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Well we are now over full, as i did allow another few robots book in even after i said to Niel u can fill out last place.
We have 36 robots coming now instead of the intended 28 James. Im already being told off for allowing over 28. At mo, its a no room situation now. But will keep close in contact with you james as your robot was fun to watch at our last event.
Even if anyone breaks down - we still have over the 24 needed for a MAIN competition. We have more than enough for main competition. White board battles were not bothered about, they are there for roboteers to have fun in our new arena to fight and play.
But at mo James, ive been told off for allowing more than 28, i dont think it will be possible at mo to allow any more at all.
Mr Stu

Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Will I be allowed to join in with the spinner battles? I really want a go at the latest spinners with Micro-Maul evo...
Will there be featherweight football in the whiteboards... just an idea...
Cheers, Ewan
-
Feather Weight Smash 2004 - March 6th / FeatherWeights.org
Sorry Ewan, read the rules, its a battle of the spinners not the robot that can cope with a spinner :)
FOotball - not a bad idea, will look into getting some sort of football goal made maybe. We will see, would fun, always wanted to do that, just, i dont know, we will see, would be good to do.
