well i will kick off the competitors thread with my new robot called AIR. will be ready very soon. runs on a roboteq with 2 bosch on 24v, full pressure ram 140mm bore with 150 stroke fed by 3 burkerts with a 6 litre buffer. got a year to test and perfect it for series 8. :)

You will urgently need that year, but should become a monster then. How many 2kg bottles of CO2 are you planning to use?
-
ENVY
Sounds like Gravity to me!
-
ENVY
it is a gravity....i am duplicating it right down to the weelie you suffer from.....
-
ENVY
Sounds good to me Shane, how are you absorbing the energy in the flipper when it reaches full travel?
Paul
-
ENVY
He isnt. He is hoping that the hit will transfer the energy into the victim. I really need to look into his eyes when he misses a target and sees the destruction that is self inflicted. I will laugh so hard that I will burst. Then buy the man a beer for the entertainment provided.
Mike.

Shane, dont feel bad if people compare AIR to Gravity... And Gravity didnt suffer from wheelies.. At least, it didnt before I took of the second buffer tank, that was located in the nose of the robot. Ah hell, can tell it now anyway... I was asked to restrict the power because they were scared of both their cameras and the fact that the fights would be over too soon.
Looks like the 4th edition of Gravity wont be the most powerfull flipper ever seen on robotwarsanymore, since its ram is 140bore x 120stroke, and is only fed by 2 2litre buffers thru 2 burkert valves...
But still, power alone doesnt make a good robot :)
But shane, just like Paul Id like to know how you are going to stop the fliopper arm at full stroke and how you are planning to get it down again ???
Regards, William
ps, dont laugh too hard, Mike, or else your flipper arm will brake off again...
-
ENVY
Oh, and another thing Shane,on my new design Im using similar wheels like you have (yes, i copy too, ask mike :) ) and I dont know how to attach the rubber to it... The same way storm2 and terrorhurtz did it seems like a good idea...
-
ENVY
Just dont use evo-stick! Believe me I know

about your wheels. i´m planning to use a mix of 55 shore polyurethane (similar, but better than vulkollan) coating with 15 % of glass splinters. A company in austria offered me this coating for for 45 euro per wheel, (excl. VAT and shipping) including special treatment of the ali hub (100 mm hub diameter, 80 mm wide and 20 mm thickness of the coating. they promised me, the glueing of the coating holds better than the yield strength of the coating
-
ENVY
Glass splinters ? Then I think you will be required to cover your wheels when not in the arena.
-
ENVY
I think Helmut is more referring to glass powder...
-
ENVY
The splinters are very tiny, (smaller than 0,5 mm). The engineer in the factory told me, this mix give the best grip on a wooden floor. in former times they used quartz- sand for this purpose, but the glass splinters give better results. i plan to cover the wheels, if necessary with a piece of wood.
-
ENVY
Ok, helmut, But Im located in Holland, so Id like to try and find a company neirby ! oh, and Il looking for only 6mm of coating.
-
ENVY
The rubber on our wheels is simply glued on with Loctite 415 (normal rubber on steel). We didnt have any problems yet.
-
ENVY
6 mm should be cheaper, because it depends also on the weight.
maybe they can help you to find a company in the netherlands:

we use the asmaprene b type

ENVY
paul....the flipper will hit a set of springs which will absorbe the energy when it hits the full travel mark. also there will be bunjees helping the return. if i go to flip a robot like growler the robot will bottom out on the floor so the load is transfered through the bottom of the ram,,,,, in theory....
mike.....i will be watching your face when i flip you through the roof....then i will buy you a beer for the entertainment provided.
-
ENVY
LOL!!!! :) Now Now boys Mike and Shane. HEHE.
(Then ill buy you both a beer for the entertainment watching 2 robots destroyed!)
-
ENVY
well when this fight happens, seening as your buying each other beers, can i have one for destroying my arena :)
-
ENVY
-
ENVY
Can I come and play too ???
My prevous fight with Mike, was, well, to put int short, it was short. I think we could have a wunderfull time in the roaming robots arena, with the polycarbonate walls and stuff...
-
ENVY
Remember boys power is nothing without control,
We have been fortunate in winning many of our scraps, but I have learned 100% more from the small amount losses we have had, hopefully the
new Bulldog will show this, unfortunately in this build some compromises had to be made to maintain
the basic shape and dimensions of the last machine also we are trying out new materials :) tony (Bulldog Breed)

ENVY
air will be running with a robotech at approx 16mph with nice vulkonised wheels (or however you spell it). also a nice titanium scoop on the front to shave the floor. got my eye on them there new motors from technobots too but havent decided as yet. will do all the testing with bosch for now tho.

ENVY
check out the team site on http://www.teamkais.co.ukwww.teamkais.co.uk for a look at the first test of air.
-
ENVY
Not bad but seems to be lacking power :). How much does that weight? It looks like alot more than 100kg. You can test it on ours next time we meet.
-
ENVY
mark..we bodged up the piping just to test it and liquid was getting through. leaked loads too so it was lacking power but it will be much better for the preston event. it weighs 72kg as it is now so it will make the 100kg target. the car it was flipping weighed 95kg. good work stu by the way.
-
ENVY
Why did nt you show the clip where the car flipped you over the 6ft wall :)
-
ENVY
For the obvious reason that hes embarrassed
-
ENVY
OK, Shanes right, its going to be the bo***cks!
-
ENVY
new look air will be ready for newark so an air gravity match would be cool.
