Well the first event posting of what looks like a great 2004 to come.

This is the first 3 day event weve done, and is going to be run as a competition over the 3 days.
And should be a great one.

There will be high quality individually designed trophies and significant prize money for the following catagories
HEAVYWEIGHTS, FEATHERWIGHTS, ANTWEIGHTS

Accommodation will be provided, social aspects will be a priority.

just to let you know,if possible,i need an application form for this event,as me and frank(team meanmachines are going to have our heavy finished by then,hopefully,and would love a good old slobberknocker to test it out.

On a positive note we have a prize sponsor for the feathers signed up. £560!! in prizes.

i noticed Alpha (feather) and Chroma (ant) werent on the lists on the site. We are already attending with G3 (feather), Hades (Ant) and Merlin (heavyweight), these 3 are all on the lists.

just a quick note rob,you got my old robot,Whirlwind, down on your list.
its a feather
(hence why i built all new ones,both feathers and a heavy,and a new team)
so does that mean that i can attend as Team Meanmachines, or is it only team whirlwind that can attend?

I havent booked any accommation for you as you withdrew your entry last November. We can always fit in a feather but youll need to book your own hotel.

Tickets have gone on sale for this event and the website modified to allow for this. Id really appreciate it if robot team captains can go to the site and check you are on the list. I dont want teams left out or robots on the list and you cant come, or youre bringing a heavy and no longer are bringing a feather etc.

alpha isnt on the feathers list (were theyre with Merlin and G3) also Hades is on the Fetaher list, but its an antweight :P

Ticket sales today 13/4/04 are 478 out of a possible 1800. Three weeks to go. Does anyone know if this is average or should I be worried?

Are people allowed to buy on the door?
If so, Id expect most people to buy at the time, if the event has been advertised enough.

Hi Rob,

I suggest this is a worrying trend. We had a tougher Enginuity this year although did manage to get the numbers up through good marketing in the last week or two before the event. That is why we are now working towards inclusion of live robot shows at existing public events.

In terms of practical measures I suggest you consider the usual marketing gimmicks; some late discounts for multiple sales or bookings from local businesses or organisations, Radio station ticket give aways to promote the event etc.

Probably not a great deal of help, but if you can think of anything else we can help with, get in touch.

On the ticket front........Why not drop the Saturday early morning show if you have concerns. This would allow more time for roboteers to get there and do tech checks etc..

Yes, I thought of that Ian, unfortunately the ticket agency have already sold 44 for the 10am show and this would be a real pain to contact the purchasers now. They werent too keen to start cancelling shows right now. btw Ian, although you didnt request Friday night at the Travel Inn I booked it anyway because I got a small discount for three nights. Rob, do you have some sort of shopping centre near by? Anything like that where lots of people are about, and somewhere, where a company or who ever owns the shopping cetnre allow you to set up a stand and display your robot next to your stand and sell tickets? Make some signs up on your computer and sell a load of tickets, or at least advertise you can buy tickets on the door.

Have you put and adverts in local papers? We placed an advert in our local paper for our FWSmash 2003 event which cost us £55 but a decent size on a page, and that helped quite a bit! Be creative, even the small things make a big difference.

LOL @ Andrew R - good marketing in the last week or two before the event.
Yeah ask for a load of washing machines and tons of public with offer, then due to the large amount of washing machines it will reach the news and all sorts :)

Weve spent £850 on newspaper advertising. We have 200 A3 posters around the area (25 mile radius) and a few wooden hoardings on roundabouts :)We also did a 3000 leaflet mailshot to primary schools

Sorry Alan, Andy Ive now added them - so many feathers and ants from multi-robot teams its hard to keep up!
Lee - Youve always been down to attend this event but only on Sunday and you never put in a request for accommodation. If you need a room for Sat night Im sure we can find one.

Competition format is as follows
Each robot will need to fight an A , B and C robot over the weekend. Points scored in victory for Aggression, control, etc Ed Hoppit is judging for us. These points totalled up for the three fights.
On Monday the four overall highest points scorers fight a semi (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3) then the grand final. There are prizes for overall winner plus the best robot from each catagory of A, B and C.

Two teams have requested selling stuff at the event. Thats OK but because this is a 100% charity event we are charging £10/table per day. We have very disappointing ticket sales (we have been badly let down by the Tourist Office Ticket hotline that seems to be closed most of the time)and are only just into the black. We have to try and boost income in every way we can on the day. Catering/raffles etc These tables can be booked in advance by email.
