Good quality Transmitter/Receiver combinations

So, I've decided to start again with my equipment, the DX5e and Orange R620 I had were a bit of a pain to get running and have had a fair number of problems with various things between times, so I thought I'd ask what sort of radio gear everyone else runs?

High cost isn't a major deal (within reason anyways) but I'd like to have something that is pretty easy to use and on the transmitter end has model memory, in built mixing (that actually works) and all those nice things. I've heard the DX7 mentioned as well as the Spektrum range of receivers. I'd like to steer clear of the Orange stuff where I can because that's been a real hassle at the best of times, not binding or failsafing incorrectly sometimes, would rather have something I know will work 100% of the time.

Looads of people use the DX6i, which has all the features you need for ~£70 off ebay.

As for receivers, I use LemonRx in everything from my Nanos to my Heavy :L Main reason I like them is that they're small and you can buy them in packs of 5 for £15 (~£2 postage), so that if one does die (not that that's usually a problem) you can just stick in another :L ( or just buy one at £3 if you're a 'normal' person: http://www.lemon-rx.com/shop/index.p...&product_id=92 ). I've bought over 50 of them (for kits; I don't own THAT many robots :L), and have had few problems with them...

Other option that's not Orange is the proper Spektrum Rx... Never had one though so can't comment much about it...

Thanks both, I'll have a look at the DX6i! The only reason I was a little apprehensive about the Spektrum/Orange stuff is that my previous setup had a few issues, not sure what it was really, but I had a real hard time getting it to connect up and failsafe, and it would occasionally just un-link, maybe I had a dud one but still concerned me a little...

Yeah, most people use orange Rx without problems, so sounds like you were just unlucky.

Linking with an orange is just somewhat different if you want it to failsafe.
If you've done it once or twice it gets easy.

I'm now using a Devo 7e TX running the modified Deviation firmware and have 2 3way toggle switches hacked and enabled for a total of ~12 channels, it cost me £40 + P&P. I'm using a Lemon RX 6 channel RX, it cost me £10 + P&P. No problems so far.

DX6i with Orange Receivers have been fine for us, though I have had one Orange randomly die on me and the same goes for a genuine Spektrum.

I used the oranges for a little bit without issues, then I had 3 of them die in one weekend, I replaced them with Lemon's on Rory's recommendation and they've been working fine since, no issues whatsoever.

Does the dx6i and lemon rx failsafe on all channels?

I haven't checked all channels but I can confirm that that combo failsafes on the throttle, aileron and elevation channels so it probably does on the others as well.
