Eggbeater
Ok, Just sticking some pictures of my beetlweight builds up here.

Old, first version of the robot for anyone who doesn't know. Looked pretty cool but had some really, really bad flaws.
I've learned (hopefully) from this and have changed the design to improve the robot.
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps3fd9f8b1.jpg
Here is the new version before I worked on it today. Frame is 10mm chopping board (I know, a bad idea but I can't really afford different yet) the motors are 1000rpm ones from ebay. The pulleys are custom made by Ellis. The "belts" in the picture are hair bands because I didn't have anything else to hand.
Here is a untouched pulley next to the one I milled a hex onto. Reason for doing this is so it can fit onto banebots wheels because the adaptors are too expensive for me. It also has a grubscrew in it to hold it onto the D shaft of the motors.

Did all four and made up some belts. The stuff is basically O ring material but I cut it to length and then joined it with a soldering iron. Works well!

That's where I'm at so far. Need to get the armour made and mount and wire in the electrics.
Should be interesting to see when it's finished and see if it performs ok for a chopping board robot powered by £10 motors :)
Cheers. Harry
-
Tormenta 1 was a chopping board powered by £10 motors too. :D
Looks great man, as I've expressed. Those hex pulleys came out sweet. This'll be a cool robot.
-
I can see this being a pretty brutal machine once it's finished! How fast does that beater spin normally?
-
Cheers guys.
I geared it for around 4000rpm last time. Felt a bit lacklustre so I'll up it a bit this time.
-
And is that still at 500g too? That sounds more than a bit lethal! Looking forward to seeing it in action!
-
Yeah beater is 500g. With the new design being within the weight limit looks to be easier. The robot is farking massive though.
-
Looking good!
Will be interesting to see how it handles =)
-
Looking very nice! Reminds me that I really need to pull my finger out and get Soundwave running again. Might have to go for the heavier disc this time as the impact could be fun if these meet :)
-
It's looking to handle quite well, at least much better than the first version. Weight distribution is no longer abysmal, but is not entirely unterrible yet.
Will, could you not. I like having the beater in one piece.
-
Did you cut the bulkheads by hand? Very neat!
There's not much meat around the bearing slots for the beater, if it's chopping board then it'll likely crack.
-
Erm I used my hands on the milling machine does that count :p lol
Yeah, this has occurred to me. It was meant to be aluminium, or even nylon but I didn't have any to hand.
-
Got some side armour made today. 5mm 6082 aluminium... not the greatest but might last.

Looks a bit like Dominant Mode or Cake from the U.S.

-
Yep, that style of robot was my inspiration.
-
-
-
Thank you. It's very bodgey and ghetto'd and really doesn't function that well but It is a step in the right direction. When I have a bit of time (and a boring head) I will start on an aluminium version I think. This one is a much better size, 150mm long by 280mm wide which is still bigger than I would like but its an improvement.
-
looks great! Id turn the brake function on your esc off though if you can.
-
Cheers. I'll dig out the manual and see if that is possible.
-
I'm not so sure my plywood beetle is going to fare so well...
-
You'll be fine. This will probably break on the first hit :P
-
Most of my robots are made of wood and have stood up ok so far, just worried about spinners.

Sadly its not totally finished. Bringing it to Whitwick tomorrow along with Shane's beetles to have a knock around. Beat up some inanimate objects or have some fun fights or a little comp if there is magically enough people :)
-
im bringing my BW tomorrow
-
Sweet! I look forward to it. I'll be there around 10, 10:30 or so.
-
when i asked they said we have to get there for 9.30 due to that meeting
also to be honest i don't think my BW will lat long lol
-
Right ho. Well I'll aim for then but long drive/traffic/early mornings may happen.
-
lol im gonna struggle to get up that early
-
Be good to see some BW's tomorrow, just coming down for a bit to see everyone as it's my local show :)
-
Yeah. Idk how many are going, or if any went today.
-
Yesterday it was just me and Will with beetles, should be a few today (and I'm missing out :( )
-
Didn't even get Spinza started, let alone complete enough to bring. :(
-
Eggbeater reliability is going up. Need to get my arse into gear for the beetle comp at the AWS. New electrics sorted. Need to buy a battery as the old one is cattled.
New frame is happening, probs going to be aluminium. Most things I can do I need to find a way of doing bearing pockets very cheaply. I really need a boring head lol
Drive is staying the same as it worked. Shape is being kept because cool. Getting rid of the curved back because its a pain to armour and it's needless.

Machined a motor mount. Overkill but I always feel uneasy using outrunners without supporting the end. Especially with the cheapy ones. Nice and chunky and should fit in the frame well and stop anything getting caught in the rotating can.
Also got a proper wedge made up for the 4wd drive all day thing. 4mm steel, weighs 420g. Total weight without any hinges or grinding the wedge flat etc is about 1360g.

That motor support is looking really nice, so is the scoop on the pusher :P
-
Both looking great! Lets see if your 4WD can out push my 6WD. I hope I can get Anvil and Susan built in time for the event.
-
Mine is just a pile of bits at the moment, need to get a move on with CADing something up and putting it together
-
Cheers guys.
Alex, what's Susan?
-
Screw Eggbeater for a bit I'm building an undercutter. Won't be that good but I wanted something fun to build. No CAD, making it up as I go along. More or less built it around the bearing block which itself was a test for a boring head :)

Frame is 5mm aluminium. Probs get coated in thick plastic. Disc may not happen, might have to just chop up some steel to make a bar due to cheapness. Inb4 someone who has had their sense of humour surgically removed says the card disc won't be much use lol.
Battery is there to show where battery will go. The weapon esc will probably fit alongside it and I can fill up the compartment with foam, will do a hobbyking order asap.
Cheers.
-
Looking nice. Cardboard disc probably won't be up to much though ;)
