We've had our first go, and I think its safe to say that everyone learned at least one thing. All the kinks can be worked out for when Beetleweight competitions actually start properly :)

im working on some converted brushless ESCs, again based on the botbitz open source code, that would allow use of the dx6i Tx. The ESC in question is the tz12a from hobbyking so when i get round do it, ill get testing and see how it goes.

i use them in my beetle hasn't been battle tasted yet but its had a good few runs round the house and about a 20 min run outside, haven't noticed any issues yet
Related, the 25mm MFA motors.. I wouldn't really recommend them now. Burnt out a motor and they were a bit slow tbh. I want to change up to the 1000rpm ebay ones. Weston will probably back me up about the slowness problem.
Upgrades to the Slaughterhouse are going well. Ordered 12 new motors and will be upgrading RPM and XXX shortly.
Trophy for Robots live Leicester event will be Made up for the winner of the weekend.
Few new builders building beetles for this event too.
Grapevine news......later in the year there will be a nice event involving ants and beetles...I will sort out a prize fund for this one with it being the first official beetle weight champs.

Am pleased to announce that we finally got our trophy for the slaughterhouse 2014 champs, its absolutely perfect. I predict some fierce competition over it!

Alex....The Slaughterhouse doesn't follow the FRA rules. The rules for the FRA beetles are a different weight class at 1.36 kg.
The Slaughterhouse is an arena run by roboteers for the roboteers. If you want to follow the fra rules then no worries. The champs will be the slaughterhouse champs not the FRA champs.
I believe you are building a beetle weight arena too....will you be using the fra rules at 1.36kg?
We are building an arena that can cater for either 1.36 or 1.5kg. Our machines are being built to match the current trend of 1.5Kg.
Just out of curiousity, what would be the 'regular' or minimum specs for a FC beetleweight arena?
- Dimensions
- Floor material
- Poly thickness
- Roofing
Something like 2m x 2m arena, 0.75m to 1m high, 3-4mm mild steel floor or better: Hardox, 6-10mm polycarb on all sides, 2 lockable doors. If you go with 6mm polycarb then you may find yourself replacing it after a while, 10mm is what is used for the FC feathers. Frame should be ok with 20x20 or 30x30 box with a 3-4mm wall thickness.
It all depends on what you want from it. We plan to test our feathers in it so we have over spec'd the polycarb and the frame, but its also easy to disassemble which has added to the weight.

I read that the aussies use(d) 3mm polycarb and it sounded way to thin.
3mm is less than standard antweight arenas. I'd go for the 6-8mm range myself. Not 100% sure what the slaughterhouse has

Nope. Pushers are fine. Build that 6wd thing, it's awesome.
