Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships!
Hello Everyone
We are delighted to announce we will be hosting the 2013 Fighting Robots UK Featherweight Full Combat Championships over 3 days at the Gadget Show Live, NEC. Robo Challenge will be returning to the UK largest consumer electronics exhibition as one of the main features. The Championships will commence on Friday 5th of April with the knockout stage and finals on Sunday 7th April. For all the details and to sign up please go to our site here -
http://www.robochallenge.co.uk/Events_a ... gsl13.html
The format will be the same as previous years as we feel it has worked well. There will be updates/clarifications to the judging rules so please do keep an eye out.
This year we are hoping to create a fantastic sporting event as well as encourage new people into our sport. We will be having intros made for all the teams from day one as well as creating a signings/q&a session for the winners.
We are certain its going to be a fantastic event again. So, will NST defend the championship? Will we see the rise of a new breed of robot? Will Predator get very broken??? Its time to sign up to the full combat 2013 UK Championships!
We wish you all the best of luck, sign ups are open!

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Does the extra robot rule apply if its not competing in the champs, just in whiteboard fights?
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
The rules and entry fee only applies to the competition robots. If you have a whiteboard robot as well as a competition machine just bring it along :)
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
I guess its time to build a new cobalt..
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Just what I wanted to hear after giving Drumroll a good beating at the weekend  .
We'll be signing up in the next few days when we decide which bots to enter. Very glad you chose to hold it here rather than in Yeovil, bit too far for me but Birmingham is perfect.

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
What is the deadline for signing up? We are having trouble getting our machines wired and tested. I really wish I had considered where the wires were going to run when I designed them!
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Mid march will be the closing date for entries.
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Looks like it's time to get to work on the upgrades to Inertia :)
May have a 2nd spinner to bring along as well but we'll see how it goes.
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Thanks James, thats perfect.
Upgrades for Inertia XL? Ouch... what you got in mind?
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
I have a few changes in mind to solve a couple of the reliability issues and make it stronger overall. Not going to say much more than that until I know for sure :)

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Great! It's always a really good event :) We'll be signing up Explosion later tonight.
Apart from repairs Explosion is exactly the same as last year, will be interesting to see if it can do well again this year. I must say that I am worried about the amount of spinners being made...

Aren't we all?!
We'll definitely have Tormenta 2 in the competition, and if all goes to plan a new machine also competing, if dad can drive one of the two.

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Signed up Skyfall, and Chuck (under a new name which shall be revealed shortly) .
Finally got somewhere with all the stuff, gonna start building as soon as I've got it all.
James, I've left the 2nd driver section blank until I can find someone, I'll let you know when I know!
Also, I seem to have been charged for P&P on the registration? Are you sending us something?
Anyway, looking forward to it, see you all there!

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Might try an get something knocked together for this, don't think Alpha will last another champs
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
That's very strange, none of the other entries have a p&p fee, your payment looks different for some reason, il get it sorted for you.
Predator is all signed up.

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
is there a numbers limit? Or will everone be squeezed in? Doubt ill get a ts3 built unless i win the lottery so looks like im salvaging ts2 for this

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Sounds great! Can't believe this'll be the third year in a row that it's been held at Gadget Show Live; well done James & Grant and thanks for your efforts to give us an awesome fighting environment :)
Drumroll II will definitely be getting signed up. Sheared a tooth again when fighting with Cicatrix at the weekend but I can see where the problem lies and it's an easy fix. Got some modifications in the pipeline to improve on areas that let it down last year (belt guard!) so will be hoping to do better this year. Not gonna focus too much on winning it (Gary's already claimed 1st place anyway  ) but as long as it does well I'll be happy.
Carcinus will be back too so make sure the pit is working! Ideally getting the grabber/lifter running for the comp would be grand as well but I think a whiteboard appearance is a more realistic target.
Can't wait :D

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Can I reserve a place until the end of January ? I can't actually afford the entry fee at present.
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Signed up with Drumroll II and Carcinus. Probably going to book back in to Tamworth Central Premier Inn; seemed to be the place to be last year, had good food and is a simple 20 minute drive to/from the venue.
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
We'll be staying at the Castle Bromwich Inn, for £75 for both nights (a group discount). 7 miles from the NEC, 10-15min drive. If you want a place, say and I'll block book the rooms for the discount. Is a great place, nice place to eat next door, fantastic service and nice rooms.
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships

All booked up to join the party.
Also, for anyone who remembers the 2010 event at the Gadget Show, my cousin will be returning in an attempt to not only play with some robots but also put on another demonstration on how to pull one of the models (he hopes!)
-

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
We have a reserve to Ibis Birmingham Airport again, £165 for 6 nights, 2 to 8 of April. This year i can't compete in both events (Birmingham and yeovilton) so, i will compete in Birmingham with Galactus and Rabid :)
See you in arena!

Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
signed up my 2 bots dout i could have got the 3rd 1 built by then but if i can i will see if i can bring it for the whiteboard fights
since im new to the gadget show do i was wandering what the parking like is it a case of drop bits off and park a mile away or is it really close
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
Its really close, or at least it was last time I went.
-
Re: Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships
What we had to do last year was go to a car park way up at the top of the complex, pick up an unloading pass which allowed us access to the door nearest the arena, unload all our stuff within a 15-minute window then take our car to one of the surrounding car parks. The ones we get told to use are usually a 5-minute walk at most. We were issued with special parking permits last year that permitted us to use the car parks for free as we were exhibitors.
I imagine it will be similar this year but James & Grant will provide all the necessary info nearer the time.
