Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Would just one Scorpion XXL v2 be able to run a 2 wheel drive bot using 12v argos drills? Or would I be better off getting 2x Electronize 15A/30A? I like the looks of the Scorpion XXL, but not sure if I will require 2 of them (as they are more expensive than the Electronize).
Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated :)
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
i haven't used them but from the spec the Scorpion XXL v2 will run 2 drills fine
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
The Scorpions are dual controllers, so designed for 2 motors that more independently.
They also have built in features like mixing, current limiting etc....
The Electronizes are basic single motor controllers, but rugged and cheap!
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Even an XL would handle that setup. I run an XXL on 4 argos drills at 19.2v!
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
For this setup i'm planning on using 2 x 7.2v Nimh battery packs in series as the power source. Do you think 30A rated wire will do the job?
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
I should think so. Our machine is wired entirely with 30a cable, in places doubled up just to be sure. For 2 drills 30 amps should be... ample.
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Does anybody know how long it usually takes to get one of these ESC's? I've ordered the Scorpion 2 months ago now and I'm still waiting. Starting to consider looking at other controllers as I'm getting tired of waiting ... :p
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Email them and ask about it
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Scorpion XXL finally arrived :) As far as a transmitter/receiver system for it, will I be able to use an old 27MHz one that I used with my RC car? Or will I have to buy a 2.4Ghz one? (for testing purposes).
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
For testing at home and such, using an old 27MHz controller is fine. For entering a battle-legal robot at an event, you'll need to get yourself a 2.4Ghz set :)
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Just tried setting up the electronics. I am using a 14.4v power source and the 27MHz radio system I mentioned above for testing but I don't seem to be able to send a signal to the Scorpion. The green status light should be solid green to indicate a good signal, but I only get a flashing light, any suggestions?
Just to add, I am using the BEC system on the Scorpion instead of a separate power source for the receiver, not sure if the problem has anything to do with this.
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
scorpion BEC's are rubbish, your problem may be there.
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
They're fine, just they didn't like the power hungry Spektrum stuff. Plug a servo in the RX make sure you've got a signal at the RX.
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
This may sound condescending but I have seen it happen:
Make sure your RX plugs are the correct way around (Signal, positive and ground).
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Just tried using the RX with a servo, but didn't get a signal. Maybe I need to get a new RX or transmitter
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
check your crystals, make sure they are the correct frequency and that they are secure in their sockets.
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Hello, I was wondering whether to get the XL or XXL. I run 4 gimpson motors (12v I think) on 16.8v batteries. At present I use 3 electonize escs (one to operate a linear actuator). Do the scorpions just run motors or can I run the linear actuator off them as well?
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
I'd use an XXL in your case and use one of the Electronizes to run your LinAc
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
I actually just had mine arrive today, they look a lot sturdier than the XXL version 1. The case thats designed for it seems a bit optimistically named, you basically have to cut and drill all the holes yourself.
Re: Scorpion XXL v2 Speed Controller
Just tried my scorpion xxl v2, very happy with the results. It seems to provide very smooth, precise control :)
